Fantasy Cursed Island

Asta spoke up next to Jerry. "So, it's possible it could hatch soon. Or it could still be a while."

----------

Emil nodded. "More or less, yes. It crosses the sky from east to west, everyday."

Shuffle went to check out what Erina was doing, but the smell of it quickly drove her away again. She instead climbed a tree to watch from a distance. She liked how the colors looked.

"It is a distinct possibility, yes," Joanne nodded, "Why?"

"We're...", Jerry glanced at Asta and back at Joanne, "Experimenting with something."

-------------------
"Hmm," Veo looked down at the thing, "How long does that take?"

"Where I'm from, the sun doesn't set," Adran shook his head, "It's always summer in the Feywilds. When I was sent out, in most places the sun was in the sky for ten ours and the moon for another fourteen. Sometimes neither came out if the weather was too bad."

Asta just nodded, leaving it at that.

----------

Emil nodded. "It varies slightly depending on the location and time of year, but it usually takes about twenty four hours for it to make a complete cycle back to the same spot. And sometimes you can see the sun and the moon at the same time."

"That's... weird." Everything about the surface world sounded weird to Veo, it was becoming a pattern.

"Just wait till you get there, there's cities just full of crazy people," Adran shook his head, "Dive bars, markets, taverns, all run by one guy at the top most people only tolerate because he's not drafting everyone into a war." He shook his head again, "Jerry's rubbing off on me, I'm starting to look for things to complain about." He went to go sit with Erina, the smell of the dyes being produced didn't seem to bother him that much, but then again he had literally been through the Hells before. Some dye had nothing on fire and brimstone.

Emil nodded. "But it does have it's charms, if you know where to look."

Erina glanced over at Adran as he sat near her. "Getting away from the noise?"

Veo smiled at Emil, "The surface has at least one charm," she nudged the bat with her elbow.

"Not really," Adran shrugged, "Spent the last week skinning and carving, giving my hands a break for a bit."

Emil chuckled as he smiled at her. "Well, I can say the same about the underground."

Erina gave a nod. "I'm sure I'd need to do the same, but my hands are suited to lots of detailed work."

Veo put an arm around the bard, "It's a shame we're constantly in danger, down here."

"Couldn't your reflection take over for a bit?", Adran asked, "Give you a break for a while."

Emil nodded. "Part of why I want to show you the surface is because it's not as dangerous. There is plenty of danger, to be sure, but it's much more spread out and easier to avoid."

"Mm, she could, yes, if I needed a break." Erina looked to her current dye for a moment before looking at Adran again. "Or is it that you want me to take a break?"

"Hmmm," Veo closed her eyes and smiled, "I don't know how I'd do on the surface."

Adran shrugged, "We've been working for a week straight, everyone could do with a breather."

Emil smiled at her. "I'll help you through it. If anything, we can find a cave that's nicer than and safer than here."

"Hm... Alright, if you insist." Erina stood up and got her mirror to summon her reflection.

"I don't know about a cave," Veo shook her head, "We built houses in my village, we're not savages. Wood wasn't a common material until we got this deep in the Depths."

Adran nodded at Erina's reflection as she crawled out of her mirror. "Afternoon," for once he knew for a fact it was that time of day by the sun rock.

"Ah. Sorry, I meant that more as settling someplace that might feel more familiar."

Mirror Erina looked at Adran and gave him a smile, the unnerving one, before she went to work on the dyes.

Veo smiled, "It was cute, though, I thought you suggested a cave because you're a bat."

Adran blinked, there was something going on there and he had to figure that out before it bit him. "Okay, why do you do that?", he asked once he and Erina were out of earshot of the reflection.

Emil chuckled a little. "Well, yes, as a bat I would be able to live in a cave."

Erina looked at Adran and tilted her head. "Hm? Do what?"

"That smile," Adran shook his head, "Like a succubus that's working a contract in her favor."

"Hm... Ah, that." Erina giggled. "I just like to see how people react. It's fun to watch them squirm."

"Because you already have reason to be nervous, so it gets a good reaction from you. If it helps though, if I really intended to do something I would have done it when you passed out from bringing in the talisman materials."

"In case I still hold a grudge for what happened before. Which I don't, of course. But I still like to tease."

Adran momentarily debated whether he should tell Erina that what she could do to him if she did hold a grudge didn't scare him nearly as much as she thought. It did scare him to some extent, but no more than knowing that at any point a succubus could rend him with her claws. He decided not to explain that. "It's not even cute, it's just odd."
