It happened 17 years ago, and it happened out of nowhere, scientists told everyone it was going to be harmless for everyone not in very low orbit, that a passing comet would drift by earth, and that ice chunks would fall to earth, resulting in a glittering sky for a full 24 hours, it was to be something to tell the children for generations to come... What we got, was something that would change our world forever.

As they drifted to earth, scientists saw these "Ice shards" changing, taking shapes, even growing into forms that resembled humans, human women to be more precise, changing color, shape, density, everything, they fell to earth by the hundreds of millions all across the globe, every town, every city, even most farms were hit.

I remember it, even though at the time I was only 3, my first memory if you would, not everyone can remember it, but some of us do, I remember my parents and I were watching the spectacle from the train depot since it was almost entirely unused and one of the best open areas in town which was near our house so, not far from my mother's medicine cabinet as she had a multitude of illnesses, I remember one of the sparkles in the sky growing closer, and soon my parents tried to run, but before they could get even 20 meters it struck the ground, kicking up dist and rocks everywhere, it was at this point all I could do was cry my little eyes out and cry "mummy!" my mother tried to comfort me, but her comfort could do nothing for what would follow. As the dust cleared, we looked and beheld a woman, she was dressed in loose fitting, beautiful shining silk-like robes, her pale, fair skin sparkled in the light, her hair reached past her shoulders, her eyes were a deep purple, her hair a light shade of blue. My father tried to come between her and my mother and I, but without effort, the 7 foot woman grabbed him with her left arm, a light shone through her arm and into my father's throat where she held him, and he went limp. My mother screamed, grabbing me and she tried to run, this strange woman, she raised her right arm and a hail of small crystals shot from her arm, puncturing my mother in all areas, she was dead before I hit the ground, which just left me, sitting on my soiled behind, my head facing upwards and crying my little lungs out, crying for help from the big bad woman who hurt mommy and daddy... It was at this moment, that this woman, this murderer, she picked me up, cradled me in her arms, kissed my on my forehead and uttered in a gentle voice "shhh now sweety, mommy's here..."

we skip 17 years later, that little boy Marchus has grown into a fine young man, sitting on a metro train to Melbourne he fiddles with his big, black leather bag, this was his 2nd year at Melbourne University, in reality he had no idea what he wants to do with his life, doing university courses is just something to keep himself occupied while maintaining the illusion he's doing something with his life, across with him, he sees one of the Crystalla, one of these otherworldly females, she looks at him with a gentle smile and Marchus just looks back down at his bag.

Marchus is a "Vision" as they call them, people who the mind-wiping didn't work on, but no-one seems upset that their memories have been altered, everyone knows it but no-one seems bothered by it, well, except for the "Visions". With the train pulling in to Southern Cross station, Marchus exits just as his phone begins ringing, taking it out of his right pocket he answers it "hello?... yeah, hey mom... yeah, look I'm ok, you need to stop calling me every hour... I can take care of myself I'm 20... ok... ok, love you mom, bye" he sighed as he put it back in his pocket, there was another thing about the Crystallis, they looked almost human, they sounded ALMOST human, they behaved almost human, but they never quite got it right, when they speak they sound like 3-8 different but similar voices all speaking at once, they never try to lose the shining skin they had when they first invaded, and everything they do looks and sounds almost robotic.

He moved to another platform, getting on another train he rode it for another 15 minutes, soon getting to near where his apartment was, it was a university owned apartment complex so rent was cheap as dirt but well... it was a shared university dorm so... you know. He entered the building and went to his room, room 337, once in he threw his bags on the floor, and collapsed on the bed, he could hear a pair of Crystallis girls talking next door, they talked well, like everything else they did, ALMOST like humans, it bugged Marchus to no end "Did you see Harry's new sports car?" "Yes, a Jaguar" "Yes, his parents are quite wealthy" ALL DAY WITH THIS! they never sounded "right" and always sounded like foreign kids trying to hard to speak English after 4 lessons.

Marchus had managed to fall into a nice nap after this, but was soon interrupted by a knock at his front door, groaning, he got up, almost hitting his head on the unoccupied top bunk he made his way to the door, opening it to find....

"Mara Alken." The door swung open and she held out her hand. "My name's Mara Alken." Mara eyed the boy standing in front of her. Slightly handsomer then the average teenage boy, she didn't think he was too bad. "Yes, I'm a female. Yes, we are sharing a room. No, I am not a lesbian and will not be doing erotic things for you to drool over. What's mine is mine, and it'd be in your best interest to respect that or else your life will be hell." She walked past him entering the room, and setting her bags down in the middle of it. Looking around the room, she made a noise of approval and plopped down on the bottom bunk. "Any questions?"

*******

(earlier that day)

Mara didn't know for sure what she was doing. She was only 17, yet she found herself on a plane headed for Melbourne University. Granted, she did have the genius to attend said school, but she felt she would stick out at a place like uni. Mara remembered how much she had to adjust when she was treated like an outsider at all 9 of the schools she had attended as a child. Mara knew she was different, but she never could figure out in what way. It was as if everyone else was in a big secret that she wasn't. Child prodigy Mara Alken knew everything except for what was different about her and it bothered her immensely.

Mara groaned as the plane landed. She wasn't looking forward to what was about to happen to her at all. After gathering her luggage and calling for a luggage, Mara was on her way to Melbourne. It was in the taxi cab when she got a call from her mother. "Hello? ... Yes, I landed not that long ago. ... I'm fine, don't worry mother. ... I will. ... I won't let anybody know. I love you too. Bye." When the cab rolled up to Melbourne University, Mara was breathless at the sight of the school. It was huge. With quickness, she unloaded her luggage after paying the driver, and set off in search for her dorm. Mara hoped her and her roommate would get along. She had a plan to lay down the obvious rules first, and then hopefully bond with him or her. Soon she found her room, and with a heart full of hope, she knocked on the door.

"yeah, why are we sharing a room? who are you to me? why even say you're not a lesbian? why actually take the time to say you won't be doing erotic things? why would you expect me to drool over you after you burst into my room? and what the hell gives you the right to try and effect my life in any way good or bad after you intruded in my room?" he glared at her on his bottom bunk, not a look of amusement to say the least "get out" he grabbed her bag and threw it back out into the hallway through the still open door "make it quick, I like women on my bed, not b*tches, back to the kennel with you!" outside some neighbors who were eavesdropping began snickering and giggling. Marchus grabbed Mara by the arm, pulling her up and pulling her to the doorway, trying to fling her out the door.

Mara whipped around and with all the force she could muster punched the boy across the face. She waited a few minutes before proceeding to kick him in the thigh, knocking him to the ground in the process, very close to one of his most sensitive areas. "First thing, you have to get through your dim witted brain, is you do not touch a woman like that." She spit near where he had plopped down. "Especially not one whose a third degree black belt. I will whup your skinny pathetic ass so fast you won't even see it coming."

Mara exited the room briefly to retrieve her bags. In the halls she saw people staring and giggling and she grumbled. Bags in hand, she re-entered the room slamming the door behind her loudly. "We're sharing a room, because if you hadn't noticed, Melbourne University is a bit co-ed. I didn't have a girl to share a room with anywhere so they placed me with you." Egging her performance on, she gave a look of disgust towards him. "I'm your roommate, smart one. And of course I have to say I'm not a lesbian and I won't do those things or else your little horn dog mind will sit and wonder."

Mara crossed to where the boy still was on the floor. She bent down beside him, and grabbed his chin in a hand. "C'mon, kid. Calling me a b*tch will only make you sorry in the long run, so don't try it again." She released his chin from her grasp and went back over to the bunk bed, lying down on the bottom bed. "Whether you like it or not, you're stuck with me. So, I repeat; any questions?"

upon being hit near the crotch, Marchus didn't much care for this rude Crystallis's attitude, he looks up, glaring at her when she grabbed him by the chin, he was going to spit in her face but the shock of being hit by a Crystallis reminded him of his mother's murder, it was at that moment that she, and the one who called herself his "mother" blended in together. After that she let him go and sat again on his bed, he stood back up and was about to bark at her to get off his bed again when another voice came from the doorway, a familiar voice for both of them "Mara! get off his bed!" it was his mother, she was standing in the doorway and she came in "this place is a lot cleaner than I thought, well done Marchus" she looked back to Mara "I heard the whole exchange Mara, you didn't even introduce yourself before pushing in, of course he's going to be angry with you, did you at least show him the paperwork or actually explain WHY you were assigned to this room so quickly" Marchus had fully recovered and was standing up tall again "okay, who is she then?" his "mother" turned back to Mara "well?... come on now, girl! proper introduction!"

Mara stood up, rolling her eyes. "Are you really making me do this?" She stared at the boy whose name was apparently named Marchus with disdain. "Yes, now get to it. He doesn't have all day, Mara." the woman's shrill voice nearly shouted. Mara erected her back and smiled a giant fake smile, making her voice sound annoyingly perky. "I'm Mara Alden, and it's my greatest pleasure to meet you today. I come to you today, the youngest incoming freshman of Melbourne University, because I have genius beyond my years. Growing up I was a child prodigy, and yes, I am so grateful for this gift of knowing so much. I was assigned to your room on such short notice because Melbourne just absolutely begged me to come start this week instead of in a few more and this was the only room available. I'm so excited to start my journey into the real world with somebody like you." She made sure to poke Marchus in the shoulder upon finishing.

When she finished her fake automated rant her mother had practically beat into her to repeat, her smile was gone; instead replaced with a look of annoyance. She slumped her shoulders and her posture slightly, and kipped her hip letting out an annoying groan. "And yadda, yadda, yadda. I'm still claiming the bottom bunk." Upon saying so, she went back and laid back down. Mara looked up at Marchus still standing there with her, as well. "I'm not sorry for what I did, so don't expect an apology."

Marchus nodded, his hand stroking his chin, deep in thought as she spoke "... right... ok well I'm Marchus, and I'm gonna throttle you in your sleep very very soon" the older one turned to him "Marchus!" "what!?" "...." His "Mother" looked in the hallway, if this wasn't done very, VERY carefully, her "son" would be known as a mommy's boy, she had to tread carefully... well, guess it was time to spill the beans "goddamnit I've only been here a few minutes and from the second you two met you've been at eachother's throats, now both of you make up, and try to get along like a brother and sister should!" it was at this moment Marchus just fell silent "... Sis..... wha?" his "mother" looked back to him, clearly very ashamed of herself "I'm so sorry sweety that I never told you about her" "so, what, did you cheat on dad?" "no honey no! you see, Crystallis can reproduce Aesexually and..." Shaking, Marchus fell onto the bottom bunk, sitting there in shock for a few seconds before lashnig his arm out and punching Mara in the face.

the "mother" grabbed Mara "come on Mara honey, let's do a bit of shopping, let him cope a bit, hmm?"
