Yamiko and Skathi
As Yamiko sheathed her katana, all 20 of the Nether Walkers dropped dead, heads rolling along the snow. "A-Again?!" Skathi pouted, canceling his spell. "What happened to leaving some for me?" Yamiko continued her march, Skathi floating around her aimlessly. "A week before we were coming across giant frogs with barbed tongues, and giant snakes and spiders, and I couldn't freeze any of them despite you giving me permission. You know why? Because you've been killing them all in one strike! I can't even ready my fastest spell before you slay them in just one second! Where's the fun? Where's the excitement from battle?" As the ice spirit kept rambling on, she wordlessly kept moving. From what the yokai heard, Solomon's Fortress was near, and the demons were noticeably increasing in number.
Why had she come here? Yamiko could not give a complete answer. Perhaps it was the legendary swordsman she heard so much about, or maybe the endless hordes of demons that plagued the north. Or possibly, deep within her, she just wanted something from this place as a benefit, working with whoever to get it through any means necessary. Whatever her motivation truly was, she snapped back to reality to hear Skathi asking if she was listening. "It is because you take more than a second to prepare an attack that I beat you. But do not be so concerned, yet. I expect to encounter more demons in even larger numbers, and you'll have your fun."
Lo and behold, deeper in the woods was a pack of demons more than double the previous one. Skathi was early in preparing his magic, this time, and beneath the demons rose several icicles, impaling many of them before they could react properly to the two newcomers. As soon as the icicles dropped down, Yamiko appeared in the midst, striking down those that still weren't ready for the ambush. Her katana moved at high speeds, striking them down in one precise strike as if she knew the locations of those around her. As she cut down another layer of demons, she sensed one rushing faster than the others from behind her. Yamiko turned to deflect, but much to her surprise, a wall of ice rose from the ground and blocked the incoming attack. She looked over at Skathi, their arms raised before preparing another spell. "I didn't know you wanted to keep me alive," she said, dashing over to another demon to impale it.
"I... I'm only helping you so I can kill you myself, later on!" As much as Skathi hated to admit, being in a party--even if it was a forced one--made him feel... nostalgic. Their grunt was drowned out by the demon's horrid roars, and Skathi floated up to the branches as the demons also lept at the ice spirit. Seeing them brainlessly try to jump after gave Skathi a sense of superiority, causing him to laugh and taunt at the Nether Walkers. The spirit's hands glowed a blindingly light blue, making Yamiko dash out out of fear of what his attack was. This was the fun Skathi had been dying for. "Even the best of you naked rats have a breaking point for the cold!" Skathi shouted, kicking the snow up and creating a blizzard.
In the midst of the spell, the demons fought tooth and nail against the wind, failing to gain any ground anywhere. Then, a small icicle was shot. A demon dropped dead, the icicle stuck in its forehead and penetrating through the back of its head. It quickly began to be buried in snow. The Nether Walkers yelled and roared, but the icicles came from all directions, and all were hitting their marks. With a yell, the lights in Skathi's hands illuminated so large that even Yamiko raised an arm to cover her eyes. The beacon extended high into the sky, as if aliens had attempted an abduction from beyond the atmosphere. When the light died down, the whole horde of demons was dead and frozen over.
Yamiko shook her head, walking over to the giddy Skathi. "And that is what I can do!" the ice spirit said as she appeared beside him. "Yes, let everyone know we're here, why don't you?" Skathi ceased his joyful dancing, and the two were now standing still and locking annoyed eyes with each other. "Since you just love raining on my parade, I'll gladly do the same when you get a burst of joy."
"I do my best to avoid such a distracting feeling. You're the least on guard when you are the happiest."
