Competing Against The Odds (FreeMustang + cattamer)

Riley stood there, rather shocked. He wasn't sure what to say or do after that. His mind pretty much imploded as he backed towards his bike, fishing for the keys that weren't there. His mind then snapped back to life as he found he was missing his keys, and he started retracing his steps.

"I'm not leaving any more and I really hope you won't either" Anna said hopefully, casually dropping his keys down her bra, he'd have to go after them if he wanted to get killed in some crash!

"Well if I don't find those blasted keys I'll be grounded, so not much choice there!" Riley grumbled. He continued searching, turning over every single blade of grass so to speak.

Anna sighed and leaned on Riley's bike as he searched the ground for his keys "You're avoiding the subject at hand... Again..." she pointed out.

"Subject on hand, I need those keys!" Riley yelled from his spot in the dirt, shifting through it, looking for his keys. He didn't know where he had lost them at.

"Well... Let's just say I know you'll be fine ok? You lost them in my shirt... When I kissed you" Anna half smirked, he had been so distracted that he likely wouldn't notice.

"Huh?" Riley turned towards her like she was loco. "What the heck did you just say?"

Riley slowly started searching again. He couldn't believe what he thought he had just heard.

"Riley I have your keys. So you're either going to fish them out or you're going to talk to me and work this out" Anna huffed

"..so you stole my keys...." Riley turned towards her. "Fish them out of where? And talk about what?"

Yes... short term memory. He just wanted her to admit there was a problem even though he didn't want to admit he had one too.

"Our communication problem.... And they're still in the same place you dropped them" Anna half smirked, he seemed way too shy to go after his keys there "I just want to start from where we left off, ok?" she said softly "Doesn't that sound better than just ignoring or screaming at each other?"

"Or how about you just give me my keys so I can go cool off?" Riley grumbled, guessing where she had put them. She was right, he was too shy to go fishing for them. No way was he going to fish in her pockets much less there.

"Mmm... No. The way you're acting you'll just wind up in a crash and oh my gosh do you know how dangerous these things are?" Anna pointed at the bike before walking away, down a short trail down to the lake, with Riley trailing after her.

"Uh, I don't need you to tell me they're dangerous. They're about the same as horses. Just give me my keys already." He groaned as he trudged after her. "You never complained about how dangerous they are until now!"

"Yeah... Because I was too focused on how hot you looked on it... But that not really my point. I mean it's dangerous because you're not thinking straight, you're so emotional and just mad at me and THAT'S what is dangerous" Anna sighed as she stopped at the edge of the peer.

Riley leaned against a pole, crossing his arms.

"I'm perfectly calm."

No he wasn't.

"Totally calm. I'm waiting for the blasted keys..."

Totally not calmly waiting, but that was beside the point. The point was to get his keys... five minutes ago.

"Oh go cool off!" Anna huffed as she pushed Riley into the lake. She wasn't stupid she could tell he was flipping out if only on the inside. It was like reading a book now that she had learned all of his tells!

Riley thrashed in the water before finally getting a decent dog paddle. Then he splashed her, drenching her from head to foot.

"Come cool off yourself! I'm not a fish ya know?"

Riley took her hand, and jerked her into the water, catching his keys as the forward and down motion would flip her over.

Riley grabbed her, and hauled her to the surface. "Well don't shove a guy in without knowing if he can swim and not expect to get jerked in. Also. Thanks for the keys."

"Aww... You saved me again" Anna sputtered before kissing Riley again, getting the keys back and putting them right where she had had them before pulling away "Now you had to of seen that one coming" she giggled

"...that's not fair..." Riley muttered before swimming to shore. He was soaked. His pride was also sopping wet. How he hadn't thought that through he didn't know.

"So are you cooled off now?" Anna asked giggling a bit as she leaned over to kiss him again now that she was safely on land with him!

Riley awkwardly pulled away. "Jeez. If you think water just magically washes away being upset, you need to go find you a magic pool, not a freezing cold ice lake!"

Riley started shivering a little as he spoke. The air felt cold, even though it had been warm.
