This is the profiles thread for Commonwealth. These are the rules regarding character creation.

As the GM I may reject character if they do not fit the parameters listed below:

• The profile does not match, or contradicts the Roleplays setting.
• The writing does not fulfill the technical requirements needed to participate.
• The character has been written in such a way that secludes them from the plot and/or the main cast.
• The character has a role that the roleplay already has an excess of, or the role does not fit well into the current needs of the story,
• The character has power balance issues.

If you're interested in the RP, please copy and fill out a profile blurb from the section below and message it to myself with the title "Commonwealth Mini App: CharacterName" The space available to describe your character is limited, so try to be concise (45~ words).

If you're not able to complete the profile due to BBcode issues, PM the raw text and I will copy-pasta it into the profile for you.

Character images should be painterly illustrations or detailed anime-style artwork. Photographs may not be used for character images. If you have drawn your own character I'll make an exception because damn, dat talent.

Full character sheets must be submitted to me before being posted, in a PM titled "Personal File: CharacterName". If Character sheets are posted without a PM or an aproval from myself, they will be deleted without warning. Again, if you are unable to deal with the BBcode, send me the raw text and I'll copy it in for you.

If you want to, you may change the font and text colour of your profiles, however you may not remove fields, change the text size, or rearrange the layout. If a field does not apply to your character, simply fill it out with a "-".

Creation Rules

More information may be found in the Setting tab, however here are some basic points to keep in mind while you write out your character

• All characters are human, superpowers do not appear in animals.
• Powers are gained via genetics, artificial powers do not exist in this setting.
• Nature and nurture determine what kind of power a person develops, they are not inherited.
• Powers and sub powers must be related, and may not be one of the following: Resurrection, Necromancy, Altering Reality, Altering Time,
  Powers that alter or affect other characters or powers.
• Stats and heroism meters are not recognised in character, they are merely for OOC purposes.
• Ranks are recognised in character.

Alyson Sharp

Alyson is a Commonwealth Detective. She posses the power to change the shape and length of her nails. Alyson is a dedicated, calm, and collected agent. She rarely lets cases get her upset and keeps a very distinct line between work and play. She has lived in Chicago since she was a teenager, so she has a deep connection to the neighborhood.

Mattias Koski

A bear of a man who worked as an Alaska State Trooper previously. Although preferring the rough and tumble approach of Alaskan law enforcement Mattias transferred to the Commonwealth several years ago. His manipulation over light particles and rays allow him to tactically brighten or darken his surroundings as needed.

Ethan McCarthy

Ethan has the power to generate portals. He used these powers at a young age in a heist in his hometown, Chicago. Though successful, he was eventually captured by Commonwealth and offered a choice: obtain a Blue Card and work with them, or rot in prison. He agreed, and has used his skills to their benefit for many years now.

  Alyson is almost always seen as either calm or with a confident look to her face. She hardly ever feels backed into a corner, and does a great job of showing it to everyone. Even with no other options available she'll simply smirk as though she still has something up her sleeve. So far she has never met a situation she encountered that made her feel truly hopeless or if she has she certainly hasn't shown it to anybody that might want to take advantage of such a weakness.
  
  Obsessive
  Whenever Alyson becomes interested or invested in something she has to know everything she possibly can. Whether that be from the employee manual that she keeps a personal small copy of with her at all times to knowing every little bit of detail on a show or movie she is watching. She has to know about everything she can get her hands on. Good for when she is learning about a new topic, bad for anybody who wants to talk about her with said topic.
  
  Business and Pleasure Separation
  To Alyson there is a very distinct line from when she is on the job to when she is relaxing. While on the job she wants to remain as focused as possible, not accepting to joke about any situations and put her full focus towards figuring out and doing all they can. Off the clock and away from work however is the time where Alyson feels comfortable enough to shed this shell by joking around and being much easier to talk to. The downside to this being that it's hard to get her to think about her job when she is not working. In general it is difficult for someone to convince her to switch over to one attitude or the other.
  
  By The Book
  The idea of stepping even slightly out of the guidelines that every Commonwealth agent is given is horrifying and unimaginable to Alyson. She especially would hate it if anybody she was working with suggested such an action or, god forbid, actually do it. She would always be sure to report any suspicious behavior to her superiors which has often earned her the disdain of some of her peers. Still she isn't swayed from the idea of being completely to protocol.
  
  History
  Alyson was born April 18th, 2009, in Phoenix, Arizona. She lived with her mom, dad, and two older brothers for the first five years of her life. These five years aren't really times that Alyson remembers all too well, though she remembers some select parts about it. Generally her life was quite happy these first few years, until the day that her mom was arrested for Involuntary Manslaughter. Alyson later learned that her mom had been out with some friends getting fairly drunk when she acted on the most base impulse of anger. After two years of attempting to work out their relationship Alyson's father Delsin moved her and her brother Kane to Chicago, Illinois. Her other brother chose to stay behind in Phoenix and attend a local college.
  
  The move to Chicago was disorienting for a young Alyson, but she didn't take terribly long to adjust. Having her father and brother around made the change much more bearable. Growing up in Chicago was different than Pheonix, but Alyson still lived a Middle-Class life, going to a nice school and getting a nice upbringing with her loving father and brother. Her father at one point began to moonlight as a mechanic and brought Alyson in to teach her some of the skills he knew. Eventually much of the processes became second nature to her, and she picked up a new hobby. One day her father took her and her brother to go get tested after being recommended by one of his friends to a nice clinic that would do free tests. It was found out that both her and her brother had superpowers.
  
  This meant that after Alyson had turned fifteen years old she was already beginning to train and hone her powers under select tutelage. Her brother underwent the same kind of training, but eventually he relegated it to the background and chose to go to law school. Alyson kept up her training and eventually after graduating high school didn't take too much time to decide that she wanted to join Commonwealth. Even with the past bad experiences of Commonwealth she had faith that the organization had enough changes for the better.
  
  Thus began her journey through the ranks of Commonwealth. Eventually her intellect landed her a spot among some of Commonwealth's best and brightest case investigators/detectives.
  
  
• 
  Kane Sharp
  One of Alyson's older brothers. He has the power to change the temperature of the air around him. This also allows him to survive in more extreme temperatures than most other humans would. Of course he does not have much use for this power as he is currently a lawyer for a large business in Chicago. Alyson still talks fairly frequently with Kane, and they both go to visit their dad's house for dinner on occasion. Secretly Alyson is jealous of how easily Kane has been able to rise in his own career and with how much more rich he has become then her. This has led to her not wanting to consult his help with her own luck, feeling like she should be able to accomplish enough on her own.
  
  Delsin Sharp
  Delsin is Alyson's father. He is a very kind man that did his best to hide the pain he felt while raising Alyson and Kane. Delsin currently works as a mechanic having no need to take two jobs for his kids anymore. Alyson goes over to have dinner with her dad and brother every other weekend.
  
  
• Nail Modifying
  Alyson has the ability to change around the length of her nails. She could either increase them out to a few inches or shrink them to the point that skin underneath them is showing. Similarly she can also change around the shape of her nails, either making them sharper or more dull. She can also change the width of the nails making them either thicker or thinner.
  
  
  • Complex Shapes: With a bit of effort Alyson can focus her nails into more complex shapes, such as shaping them into the shape of a key to avoid the need for lock picking a door. Or she could also push them into a forked shape to poke into something easier. She could even get them to be shaped into small tool-shapes.
  • The Other "Hand": Alyson can also shape the nails of her toes too! Though she hopes that she'll not need to use this she has practiced quickly sharpening out her toenails in the case that she does.
  
  Limitations
  
  
  • Can't go on forever: Much like how nails do for the current world record holder the more Alyson extends out her nails the more gravity begins to act on it causing it to be weighed down and giving it an inability to be shaped.
  • Not Instantaneous: Alyson needs to take a few seconds to shape and modify her nails and can not just produce a shape on request. To create a key shape would likely take half a minute but to create something as simple as just a sharper shape would be a few seconds.
  • Plucked Out: If Alyson were to have her nails ripped out then it would take a long time for them to grow back similar to how it would for any other human. Hers would likely grow at a more quickened pace, probably a month for a fingernail and three months for a toenail.

  Tinkerer: Many years of fiddling around with small and large electronics and mechanisms has given her a good sense of how to change and modify said items. Things such as an alarm clock, cars, or even a phone are things that Alyson would know how to dissect and either fix or change.
  
  Keen Eye: With her work on smaller objects she has gained very perceptive eyes that can easily survey a room or place.
  
  Deft Hands: Alyson can mover her hands very quickly and precisely thanks to years of practice.
  
  Agile: Alyson keeps an active exercise routine that involves mainly stretching and jumping exercises.
  
  Social Presence: Alyson does not always know the proper way to present herself in different social situations, such as indicated with her very serious persona at work and not so serious persona outside of work.
  
  Perfection: Before Alyson finishes up with any kind of work or project, even if it is completely not related to work she has to make sure that everything looks in presentable order. That might include straightening out any objects on her desk or even just making sure that everything looks neat on an item she is working on.

  Ethan's Limiter is a pair of rings, basic and metallic, one on each hand. However, they're hard to spot hidden between an additional pair of fancy silver rings on each hand, his left bearing Ruby and Amber gems, the right bearing Sapphire and Amethyst gems.

  Ethan has experienced a great deal of the world, far more than most his age. He's seen some of the highest and lowest points of modern society across much of the world. As such, he has significant street smarts, as well as a keen understanding of various cultures and high society, and knows how to use this knowledge to blend in where he needs to.
  
  A Talented Actor
  Over the years, Ethan has become surprisingly good at taking on whatever role life needs of him. He can fake emotion, cry on command, don just about any accent...you get the idea. In another life, he might have made a spectacular actor. Unfortunately, because he's spent years playing the roles he needed to, he oftentimes forgets who the "true" Ethan really is.
  
  Critical Thinker
  Ethan is an incredibly good critical thinker and problem solver, able to come up with several plausible scenarios to both get in and out of trouble. Some might also say he's too good, as his plausible scenarios can build exponentially depending on what tools he has at his disposal. If left to his own devices, he can spend days or weeks planning out even just a simple solo operation, with anything requiring a group (of just regular humans, forget supers) capable of taking months.
  
  Cynical
  Ethan carries little stock in camaraderie, believing everyone's out for themselves first and foremost. While his time working in the Commonwealth has been somewhat of a counter to that, he's still hesitant to get close to anyone, believing everyone will stab him in the back eventually.
  
  History
  Ethan was born in Chicago to a Middle Class family who gave him everything he could ever need...which made it all the stranger when they found out their son was a thief, stealing from not only the school he attended, but many of their neighbors on a regular basis. At 13 years of age, his parents finally had enough and kicked him out, effectively disowning him. Ethan was devastated at first, but after breaking in and taking as much stuff that he could carry, he vowed he'd make it on his own.
  
  The first year was definitely the toughest. His pickpocketing skills were decent, but that didn't stop him from getting caught and thrown into juvenile hall for a few months. After Juvie, he was put into a foster home, but quickly ran away, resuming his life of petty crime. It wasn't until he was 15 and after his second round in Juvie that his powers would awaken, during a heated imaginary battle of cops and robbers, with him as the robber. His mind reeled at the possibilities of his newfound power, the things he could steal. He chose to keep it a secret as best he could, playing nice with his new foster family, avoiding any trips to the doctor as well as any other opportunities society had to scan him for powers, all the while practicing in secret and planning out how to best use his powers.
  
  At 16, he finally struck, going after a string of robberies to various high-end jewelry stores in a single evening. His powers allowed him to steal just about everything on display without setting off a single alarm. Though he was captured on camera, his outfit completely hid every feature, making him impossible to identify, and he made sure to leave no incriminating evidence. Police were infuriated, the press called him "Glowworm," but Ethan didn't care, for as soon as he sold his ill-gotten gains anonymously, he had left the country to enjoy a life abroad. For 2 years he lived the high life in Europe, but Commonwealth eventually tracked him down, and with the help of the SID (Superpower Investigation Division) apprehended him and returned him to the States. From there, he was tried, issued a limiter, and sentenced to five years in prison (and a hefty fine, but Ethan still had more than enough to pay for that).
  
  His time in prison felt little different than his time in Juvie, and he quickly ingratiated himself with both his fellow prisoners and his correctional officers. After another 2 years of relative peace, Commonwealth approached Ethan in prison with an offer. They could lessen his time in prison if he agreed to enter Aegis, obtain a Blue Card, and come work for them. Ethan was skeptical, but agreed, and within another year, he was out, though under strict surveillance. For the next 3 years Ethan went to Aegis, helping Commonwealth part-time with whatever odd-jobs they'd have him do, and once he finally graduated he was officially conscripted and given a full Agent status. Now, at 30 years of age, Ethan is an accepted, but certainly not honored, member of Commonwealth, often called upon to assist with matters of superpower-based crime. In his downtime, he often goes to visit other countries to experience not just the differences in regular society, but in how the rest of the world treats supers.
• Portal (Finger) Gun
  Ethan is capable of emitting a light-based energy from his fingertips. When fired, it projects outward like a bullet - in both shape and speed, but with no drag from wind or gravity - until it hits a solid surface. If the surface is appropriate, the energy will create an ovangular portal entranceway. If another "bullet" is fired from his other hand, the other half of the portal will be created and the two will be linked, allowing for instantaneous transportation; the portals also act as windows to one another, allowing one to gaze through them effortlessly. To close the portal, Ethan must either snap, rub or flick his fingers, but he can change the location of an active portal without having to close it.
  
  Being light-based, the Portal energy acts in many of the same ways, passing through clear objects and reflecting off various surfaces. When formed, the portal emits a multicolored light that, while noticeable for its color, is not very noticeable for its light outside of dim/dark conditions.
  
  • Size Control: With a minimal amount of concentration, Ethan can control the size of the portal he wishes to create. He cannot, however, alter the shape of the portal, and his size range is limited, with the smallest being roughly 10" tall and 7" wide, while his largest is roughly 7' tall by 4' wide, which is the default. Furthermore, if Ethan creates a portal of a certain size, it will remain that size regardless of how many times he changes the locations of the portal's entrances until he fully closes it.
  
  Limitations.
  
  • Solid Surfaces: Ethan's Portals can only stick to solid surfaces that adhere to the size limitations. It should also be at least semi-flat, but small protrusions like wall moldings or brick patterns are acceptable. If the Portal connects to a solid surface, but the surface is breached somehow, the portal will immediately close. Furthermore, as they expand Ethan's portals will attempt to push away any objects that are on the surface it sticks to. Light objects, as well as those that are poorly- or only moderately-secured onto the surface, will be knocked and/or broken off. However, large/heavy objects, as well as objects that are firmly secured to a surface - such as with a bonding agent or a large anchor - will destabilize the portal, causing it to fail to form.
  • Don’t Touch the Sides: The energy required to create the portals and keep them stable is very volatile, and will cause severe damage to anything that touches the sides of the portals.
  • Don’t Leave me Hanging: While a complete portal can sustain itself seemingly indefinitely, an incomplete portal will only stay active for a very short while before vanishing. Furthermore, if one side of a portal is damaged and is forced to close, the other will close immediately
  • Unforeseeable Circumstances: Because the energy will continue to travel until it hits a solid object and doesn't lose momentum, it can be made to travel vast distances, even those normally difficult for a regular human to travel. However, once it sticks to a surface and the portal opens, whatever is on the other side can easily travel back through(e.g. Poisonous gasses, torrents of water, the vacuum of space, etc.)

  Multilingual (+): Through the years, Ethan has learned to speak Spanish, French, and Italian at a decent level, though his grammar often leaves a bit to be desired.
  
  Lockpicking/Safecracking (+): Both before and after he obtained his powers, Ethan practiced lockpicking to help with his thievery. Even now, he keeps this skill well-honed in his downtime, taking odd-jobs as both a lockpicker and safecracker, and only perfectly legal jobs, of course.
  
  Mind of a Criminal (=): Ethan is very good at getting into the minds of criminals, not just because he was one, but because he was always fascinated by the criminal mind; it was part of the reason why he would steal things at such a young age. While this makes him great for profiling criminals, it also makes him bad at dealing with them, as he'll often sympathize with them.
  
  Kleptomaniac (-): The main reason Ethan stole things at a young age, Ethan sometimes just can't help himself from snagging other people's possessions. While he can normally reign it in as an adult, he's constantly getting complaints from his fellow agents over missing office supplies, and he's banned from most open markets in the area.
  
  Overthinker (-): When set with a difficult question or uncertain scenario, Ethan has a bad habit of overthinking things. He also often overthinks what kind of food he'll want to eat for lunch or what color shirt he'll wear. While to the outside this might be seen as indecision, as he'll often be heard talking himself out of things, the truth is his mind has already decided on a goal, and is trying to focus his options down to the best possible.

  Lockpicking Kit: [Tool] It's amazing how many places still use old-school locks and safes nowadays. Ethan always carries around his trusted lockpicking kit, just in case he might need it.
  
  Phone: [Tool] Ethan always splurges on the most top-of-the-line phone he can afford, even though he rarely uses it for more than just calling and texting people.
  
  Taser: [Tool/Weapon] While he originally asked his superiors (quite politely, I might add) for a gun for field work, no one was crazy enough to trust him with one, instead giving him this. Despite, Ethan has utilized his Taser rather effectively in the field in combination with his Portals, and as such isn't too miffed about being under-armed compared to his compatriots.
