Other Comic Verse Characters

That is a very broad and in many cases inaccurate generalization. Unless we're talking about DC characters.
Yup. I was thinking of the DCU. Marvel's a bit better, but still, some iterations of Spiderman can do some crazy things.

Comics have winding stories that span in many different directions, issues, and sometimes even across people. There are what-if comics, reboots, and one-shots that turn things on their head. Unlike say an anime, movie, or TV show that has 1 story, comics are not too linear. I get that comic superheroes are cool and all, but it'd be a nightmare RP-wise. Don't forget you're trying to turn a comic into an RP. There are going to be issues to overcome cause they're different formats. One of them happens to be what iteration you'll use of certain heroes and what the accepted story-line will be. Dropping due to complexity is already a big problem. Throw in complicated lore and you're asking for trouble. The thing about comics is you ACTUALLY have to pay attention to the lore to do it right. there's not much you can glaze your eyes over and still be okay.

Not only that, but not many people seem to want to interact with Marvel Comic Verse Characters.

Like in fandom Roleplays? I mean I never noticed that being a thing in 1x1s but if I had to take a guess it's because comics aren't as mainstream as the movies and tv shows. More people are going to be familiar with the MCU than they are with any comic iteration.

But I'm not sure why that would prevent you from playing a comic character in one of those universes as long as they realistically fit.

Unless your asking why people don't play comic storylines in which case White Masquerade kind of nailed why.

It isn't impossible however. You just have to give people more of a hook and be prepared to give them relevant back stories.

Like I used to play Lifeguard ( and sometimes Slipstream ) all the time in X-Men type stories and those two are hella obscure. But I just condensed their backstory, explained their power sets, and moved on.

one of the coolest rps I put Lifeguard in was one where four or five random members of the Marvel Universe where captured by like the Timelord or whatever and told they had to fight some kind of reality warping bad guy who was attempting to destroy their individual timelines.

So that way you aren't following any one timeline or anything you could pick a character and their story and play them out as you liked.

So comics can be done you just have to make them accessible to people who aren't familiar with the medium

I do my best to simplify things for the rest of the people who wish to interact with my character. As for it to not be overly complicated, as well as try to make it appeal to them. I see what you mean though and I appreciate your feedback.

Mainly apathy.

On your end or your partners end? As I said the incredible hulk is a fairly well known marvel character and even if you're not exactly playing the movie version I don't think it should be too hard to get people interested in roleplaying with that character - especially in 1x1s.

In groups well I don't know how many of those are marvel specific but you could make your own marvel group if there aren't any and I don't see why you couldn't get some players especially if you stick to some kind of Avengers storyline which more people will be more familiar with.

Specifically on my partners end. It typically goes like this: I ask them if they'd like to rp, we start plotting, everything is well. They ask me to post the starter, I do. Then they never reply.

Ah that's not a problem with comic characters then. That has nothing to do with you at all actually and everything to do with your partners. I would instead do something very simple

- Ask them to post first

And if they are unwilling to do this ask them if there is anything in the plotting stages that they are unsure of / uninterested in.

I've never done a 1 on 1 before, so I can't help there. Geeking is your best bet. I strictly do group RPs. Definitely try a group RP out if you're having partner trouble in 1x1. 98% of group RPs I've seen have been DC, but I'm sure Marvel can do well too. I'll be honest - group RPs rarely last long, but you'll meet a LOT of people into superheroes. I am one of them. You'll have a ton of fun for the time it does last and maybe even start another. Try it out.
