And I am just here scratching my head trying to figure out if passing all those Civil rights laws would be plausible in that day and age. 20 year difference between the big reform years and where we are now.

The civil rights movement was all about getting someone powerful to acknowledge things weren't all right. It didn't change anyone's opinions, it just amplified the voices of African-Americans to the point where they could no longer be ignored.

Also trying to figure out all the somewhat back to isolationist rhetoric and actions and legislator opinion on it. Since this is raising my eyebrows considerably.

Demobilization and a return to isolationism was really popular with common folk. Not as much so for military officials and some politicians, but politicians are more powerful than men in peaked caps and are more keen to be popular.

Harry S. Truman a few years after WWII wanted to pass 'Fair Deal' legislation through congress that significantly furthered civil rights among other things but his popularity plunged and allowed the Republicans to gain their first majority since 1930, putting an end to his ambitions. Not to mention the Korean War completely derailed his agenda and the government had to turn it's priority to funding for the military.

Considering it was introduced only three years earlier by Roosevelt it wouldn't be disastrous reversing that decision.

Actually I made an oopsy. That was added under Eisenhower, not Roosevelt. So I can't change it back because it was never changed.
