The civil rights movement was all about getting someone powerful to acknowledge things weren't all right. It didn't change anyone's opinions, it just amplified the voices of African-Americans to the point where they could no longer be ignored. And I am just here scratching my head trying to figure out if passing all those Civil rights laws would be plausible in that day and age. 20 year difference between the big reform years and where we are now.
Demobilization and a return to isolationism was really popular with common folk. Not as much so for military officials and some politicians, but politicians are more powerful than men in peaked caps and are more keen to be popular. Also trying to figure out all the somewhat back to isolationist rhetoric and actions and legislator opinion on it. Since this is raising my eyebrows considerably.
