Colaborative Worldbuilding?

Again lets please stay on topic, The Topic is the size of the world in relation to how big Earth is.

Ranmayaki would like to see it 2-3 times larger than earth, for example.

I knwo for a fact the thing that's going to kill this project faster than anything is moving off topic.

I say we make the world earth-sized...

...but instead of round, I say we make it flat!

(kinda like Narnia)

As I said in the edit, imo 1 Earth-sized world description would suffice for a well-built, large rp.

Alright that's

1 for Larger than earth (2-3x)

2 for earth sized.

I would like to ask those who have already given their say to wai tuntil other people wishing to participate post regarding they're desires and opinions.

sorry for putting in late input. Honestly the size of the rp should be based on how long and how epic you want the rp to be. Like are we going to be constantly traveling? Is the rp going to take us to different areas of this world. I would say if we are going to travel. It should be earth size. Anybigger is too big.

Look at poour actual panet earth. 70% of it is covered in water. We make a planet thats only 30% covered in water, and we gain a MASSIVE amount of explorative area.

Also by making is earth sized, we gain the ability TO travel which means we could have diverse players and completely diverse and independant cultures.

i vote planet sized

KAine your input isn't late at all, I just wanted the people ho already commented to hold back from doing too much discussion without the other interested members getting their chance to speak.

I vote for Earth size =3

Mostly because our earth is the perfect size for millions of humans and hundreds of thousands of species of bugs and animals O.o . *nodness* I mean if we get bored of land we could always go beneath the sea 8D!

I think it should be bigger then earth about 3x because that means you can make the rp more... how do I say his.... longer then other rps, where they add on missions. With a bigger earth you can have one mission that can take up to one or maybe even tow normal RP missions. I want the bigger earth because there could be different eco systems, and weather patters which makes the design proses fun and some what difficult.

Making the planet larger than earth risks taking it outside the delicate ecosystem that supports life like it does. I had a longer post, but as last time my computer dc'd when I went to post, so, Rex, I'm thinking I'm not supposed to participate

As I think it was Saturday indicated, having a larger planet would change the seasons and climates, potentially so much so that it would not sustain human life or possibly any life. There's a planet, I want to say Lisa C in a nearby galaxy who's name I have forgotten, maybe Epsilon Eridani, it's larger than earth and right at the near edge of sustainable life towards the sun/star. The star and the planet's gravitational pull on each other is such that the planet has no rotation, so one side is always in freezing night, the other is always roasting day. If the planet were larger the days would not be the same, if they were still 24 hours, the rotation would have to be faster, which would create much more violent wind currents

The moon plays a huge role on the stability of the earth on its axis, giving us regular seasons, and the moon is the perfect size and gravitational pull for that. Without the moon the planet would be at the whim of other gravitational forces in the solar system, such as other planets and bollides.

What else...oh, the core of the earth could potentially be different, meaning our molten core is what provides the magnetic field which deflects most of the cosmic and solar waves that could roast this planet. Mars and the moon lack these cores despite their earth like features, so they can't hold an atmosphere. A larger earth would require a larder core to be similarly effective, though potentially the larger core would create a stronger field which could theoretically block the UV rays necessary for maintaining life via photosynthesis and vitamin D absorption. The last bit is personal speculation, though, I admit.

In a story of mine, I created the powerstream, which replaces the mantle of the earth, is the source of magic, the spark that is the soul and is where the consciousness of the gods lived. If you wanted to make a larger planet, I think it would be necessary to disregard physics in this respect and rely on magic to maintain it.

The seasons are considered regular cuz we've technically lived with the way they've been for a couple thousand years, if it was always hot we'd have adapted to heat. Gravity has too many factors that affect it. The core of the planet, the size of the planet, and outside factors like meteors, the sun, "moon" (Actually just a stand still rock) other planets. Those are the basics that affect gravity.

So if the planet were closer to the sun and bigger but with a really small core we could balance out the gravity to the same (Just pointing this out not saying you're wrong... you are right actually xD )

Also Saturday said the seasons would be changed but Michi said life may not exist then.

The Moon is actually at the gravitaional mercy of Earth though, Earths water is affected by the Moon though. (Earth will still be affected by the gravity of other outside forces with or without the moon, it's the distance and the gravitations strength that is the determining factor.

Actually if the core were smaller it could either have less of a magnetic field or a concentrated one, or both... Though it could also have neither. Every planet has a different core, the size of the planet does little to affect it. The lack of a core would mean no life though O.o (Unless there were a race that could live without the atmosphere, Aliens from AvP for example if I understand right)

I had asked a teacher (And around the internet, yes less reliable) and did some research on this for my RP

Also sorry Rex, I didn't want to have this misunderstood.

Well I can't see it if it's in the SB. Eitherway I do believe the majority vote holds it at earth sized. I will conclude the first question with that decision.

The Second question was touched on by Kaine, I believe, and that is-

How much of this planet is water vs land? Let the discussion begin.

I say about 60% water...

enough to split up the land into sizable reasons, but more land-base than planet earth...

I say at least 60%, at most I would have it a 86%

Enough for a resonable amount of people and enough salt/fresh water to substain the population, and enough area for vegitation, and animal/human regrouth areas.

If there's too much water, it'll reflect back the sun, if there's not enough it won't sustain a climate.

Somewhere in between 66% to 74 % of water.

Agreed, Hatchet. Plus, is this all going to be salt water fresh water or a mix of both?

There has to be fresh water. You can't grow plants with or drink salt water. Well, MOST plants, the ones we rely on most need fresh water. But salt water creates the gulf stream carrying warmth to colder altitudes. Not a necessity, maybe, but it's what happens, just fyi

Totally A Late comer to the topic...

but as in Water Vs. Land.

I think around 70% Land would be around the right number & even if the climate is screwed up, I think that would only add to the Rp.

And I also think it should be a mix of Fresh/Salt water, with the lesser of the two being salt water. As in, there's more Fresh Water then there is salt.

P.S. I'm interested in this kind of RP, my mind is a bit of a jumble though.

The oceans are huge. About 70 percent of the planet is covered in ocean' date=' and the average depth of the ocean is several thousand feet (about 1,000 meters). Ninety-eight percent of the water on the planet is in the oceans, and therefore is unusable for drinking because of the salt. About 2 percent of the planet's water is fresh, but 1.6 percent of the planet's water is locked up in the polar ice caps and glaciers. Another 0.36 percent is found underground in aquifers and wells. Only about 0.036 percent of the planet's total water supply is found in lakes and rivers. That's still thousands of trillions of gallons, but it's a very small amount compared to all the water available. [/quote']
Taking this information into consideration i would like to see more land, more fresh water and more ice.

57-63% water covered, however i think only 85% of that should be oceans/undrinkable. 15% fresh water. 3% in ice caps, and 12% lakes/rivers. Underground water and stuff i don't think would matter too much.

I think it would be cool to have way more fresh water on land, with slightly bigger ice caps. 8D Also i do want to see more extreme climates

Awesome, great input from everyone.

I do believe the best decision to make would be 60% land 40% water, with smaller oceans and more inland freshwater seas than are found on earth.

I'm going to ask you to comment on this suggestion before we move on to the next question.
