Tende altum, volare altius
Calista's curses became steadily more colourful as she watched what was happening on screen. Something wasn't right. What was that weird viscous liquid oozing out of the truck? And those animals, they weren't bonded, she knew that but they should have been panicking...on screen though they seemed almost...enraged.
Duik collided with Leandra but because the jump had been calculated for Alec he crashed headlong into her chest. They hit the floor and Duik sprang to his feet with a snarl, lashing out with glistening teeth. He danced back but his attention was on Leandra now, he began circling like a wild predator. Suddenly a high pitched cackle escaped him, nothing like the happy laughter he'd always had. This was the laugh of wild hyena about to go in for the kill.
It was that laugh the snapped Alec out of his shock. All that time working with unbonded animals and his instincts began to kick in. He leapt to his feet, grabbing the sheet of canvas that had once been covering the Russian's weapon. Suddenly Duik yelped in pain and Alec watch him fly backwards, hitting a stack of crates in a shower of splintering wood.
Alec stifled the flood of rage as he saw Simon standing over Leandra. He ran to Duik and hurled the sheet over him, jumping on top of it and trying his best to hold the struggling animal down.
"Hey! Team!" Calista's voice sounded through the com. "The van I gave Alec, it's got tranqs in it! I knew we'd be dealing with unbonded. If you can get to them you can deal with those animals no problem!"
Amber was the first to lunge for the van. She grabbed what they needed and loaded the guns in swift, fluid motions that came with thousands of repetitions. She tossed them out to anyone who was near.
"Sedate them and only hurt them if you can't avoid it!" She barked, and as she said it she sent a dart straight for the bear. It caught the animal in the soft flesh behind its jaw bone, but it would still be a few moments before the drug took effect.
Meanwhile the polar bear was back on all fours and loping purposefully towards Beth and the dazed Feral driver. If not stopped, it was going to tear them both to pieces.
The tapir and the wolverine decided to charge Simon and the Ocelot bounded up, taking a swipe at the hovering BB.
At the last few shots the lions retreated further. The leader finally gave the signal to retreat, but not before they grabbed several of the weapons that had been brought for the buy off.
Two large mountain gorillas hefted the cargo onto the back of a small truck and then piled into it, waiting for the engine to start.
"Guys! Watch the phoenix!" Calista yelled in their ears. On her screen the bird now just looked like a molten white sun, getting large and brighter with each passing second.
