Fandom [CLOSED] Tokyo Ghoul: Dead Enmity

Dead Enmity

The way his name was repeated again and again made Adrian a little uncomfortable, so much so he took a discrete step back. Did he really need to repeat it that many times? It was just a name? He hadn't said anything about Sam's, so why did he need to keep repeating 'Adrian'.

Yes, he was getting restless...and it was making him agitated. What was this guy doing? Was he stalling or something? He better not be stalking, Adrian was not in the mood for it. The boy's eyes showed his hunger and desperation, but they also held something else, a sort of wary hostility. Although he'd followed the man, it didn't mean he completely one hundred percent trusted him.

The crow didn't bother him in the slightest, but what did was when he was asked if he was part of something...something he didn't understand. What was the 'Link'? He didn't know anything about that. And...Aegis... He remembered being asked if he was part of that by those other ghouls, why? Was it important? Well, considering he knew nothing about them, there was no point in lying.

"No." He replied quickly, eyes darting about. What was this place? Why were they in a tiny back alley? How was this going to help him any all? With his aggravation and annoyance came a bunch on new questions. "Wh-What...are they?"

Sam scratched at his beard again and spent a moment staring Adrian down again before breaking eye contact to check once more about the other side.
"So, you're not with 'em..." he mumbled thoughtfully, completely ignoring the question. There was a crease in the dark, dry skin between his eyebrows. "Funny... I could'a sworn you were with Aegis, but I guess it doesn't matter."

Another glance at Adrian, another check around the opposite end of the passage. Sam nodded to himself and then began to slither along the path, his back pressed up against the wall. His shoes made something of a metallic scraping noise as they skidded over the dry concrete, and the noise only stopped when Sam disappeared around the wall at the other end.

Several seconds ticked by before a hissing whisper echoed back over to Adrian.
"Well, lad? Are you coming or what? We've only got 'til dawn, you know."

Dead Enmity

Adrian's head snapped to the side as Aegis was mentioned yet again. Why did everyone think he was with...whatever that was... What was it about him that made them think that? He remembered being asked the same thing by that trio just the day before... He wanted to inquire why the man thought that, but after his first question was ignored he thought it best to leave it.

Same moved around the corner and Adrian didn't know whether he should follow or not... What was this man doing? Could he just fucking tell him what was going on already? The boy was twitching slight, grabbing his sleeve with the opposite hand in order to keep himself calm. Why hadn't he even been told where they were going?

Once asked if he as moving, he nodded quickly making his way around the corner to follow Sam. They only had until dawn. Why? Adrian bit into his cheek, simply following. Stay calm. It would all be over soon.

Sam twitched his head to the side and snapped around to check that Adrian was still with him, let out another low grunt and then twirled around once more. The end of the alley had opened up into a wide, rectangular outdoor space flanked on every side by high brick walls decorated with glassless windows and stains of years-old blood. The only visible exit from the square was a large, mud-crusted plate positioned over what appeared to be a manhole.

"Okay, we're going down there," Sam declared with an unwavering voice. His hand was scratching at the back of his head, and his nostrils kept flaring and relaxing as he continued to sightlessly survey the surroundings. Then, when he was once more satisfied that he and Adrian were alone, he scurried towards the metal plate and slid it away to reveal a circular, vertical passage lined with the rusty, shaped metal bars that formed the downwards ladder.

Before he could even call out to Adrian, Sam was gone; he had flung himself down into the hole and was already hanging from a pair of rungs several metres down.
"Come on, lad," he huffed up, voice echoing into a ghastly howl, "You're going to get picked if you stand around up there."

This place was...strange... He'd never seen anything like this before. What were they doing here? Honestly this whole thing was becoming stranger by the minute, Adrian didn't know whether to go on or not... Well...of course he was going to go on, he was hungry, he wanted his food. This whole 'let's go on a journey' thing was irritating him, he just want to eat. Now.

Seeing the older man jump in, the boy walked up and looked down. There was a ladder, he should be fine. Not like there was any point turning back now, wherever they were going...it must be close. He sniffed the air to see if there was a scent of anything, anything at all, he probably wouldn't be able to tell what, this whole heightened senses thing was pretty new, but he might as well try.

Letting go of his arm, Adrian jumped, grabbing the first few metal bars, his feet landing on some lower down. Then he started to descend, his descent was hasty, like he needed to be somewhere right that second... He felt like he did... His head was going to explode at this rate.

There was nothing spectacular at the bottom of the ladder; no hide-outs, armouries, people or anything similar. In fact, it looked just about as ordinary as any public sewer, with walkways along the edges of walls and a channel of waterlogged waste between.

Despite having a nose many times more acute than that of a human, the overwhelming stench brought no tears to Sam's eyes. He didn't even flinch - instead, he continued sniffing around as insensely as he had done above ground, constantly twisting his head from side to side and still walking on his toes as he led Adrian through the huge labyrinth of pipes.

There was no telling how long the two could have been walking for when Sam finally paused at a corner. It felt like hours. Maybe it was hours - even Sam was had begun to slow his pace by this point. But now he simply stood against the wall, head peering out around the corner. The next passage along appeared to be a dead end but for another ladder reaching up through a hole in the ceiling.

"Adrian," Sam suddenly said. It was his first speech after an endlessly long stretch of silence between him and the boy. "How did you get in such a state in the first place, lad? Did your land get taken over by one of the fat cats?"

Dead Enmity

The minute he got down into the sewers Adrian put a hand over his nose, it was awful. That stench... Why the hell were they down here? And how the hell wasn't that guy reacting to it at all. As he walked he kept that hand over his nose, his head turning from side to side rapidly to make sure no one was sneaking up on him or anything. This was just a bunch of sewers...why did they need to go through here?

Still, he didn't protest, he was just getting very...very antsy. They were just walking, and they were walking forever. Adrian couldn't help but whine in pain some of the time, other times he just felt like giving up and curling up into a ball on the floor. Why couldn't he control this urge? It wasn't fair! Why did he want to eat so badly in the first place? They'd...they'd made him a monster...

The two stopped after quite some time, which gave Adrian a minute to gather himself. He looked around the corner, but to his disappointment it was just a ladder. Dammit. His hands were clawing at both of his arms at this point, grasping and pulling on the cloth that covered them. He was chewing on his cheek, and had been for so long that he could taste blood in his mouth. It was somewhat of a relief... Why were they stopping now?

Had his land been taken over by one of the fat cats? Well...he didn't know! He didn't know what that meant! What land? Having just been turned into an ghoul, Adrian had no idea what to reply. So instead of reply he simply looked to the side, shrugging his shoulders. What did it matter?

Sam turned up his nose and curled his top lip upwards, revealing a row of neat, yellowed teeth.
"You know, I'm doing you a favour here. At least answer my questions, child."

Surprisingly, Sam made no move movements towards the ladder on the far end of the passage. Instead, he ducked into a crouching position, his knees bent outwards and his arms hanging tense by his sides. Slowly, he began to circle around Adrian, but his eyes were not hostile. They were blank again, and his forehead had creased in a frown of deep thought.

"Strange..." Now he was speaking almost without moving his mouth, lazily slurring out his words as he gazed mindlessly at Adrian. "Now that I'm thinking about it, you don't really talk much, do you? What are you hiding?" With those last words, Sam's eyes narrowed and unglazed. He glared suspiciously at Adrian as he continued to trace steps around the boy.

A few seconds passed before Sam finally straightened up again and reluctantly tore his gaze away, taking a moment to violently shake his head from side to side before returning to the safety of the passage's corner.

"Agh, nevermind," the man finally grumbled, his eyes locking on the ladder as he peered around the wall again. "I s'pose it's not like a little lad like you is going to be slashing anybody up in that state. Our exit's up there-" He gestured to the ladder. "-So get up there. Go on, I'll follow after you."

Dead Enmity

Even after Sam starter circling him Adrian made no move to answer the question, he simply kept his head down and stayed quiet. He was in dangerous territory, and he wasn't in the best of states, he shouldn't push his luck... All he wanted was to eat... He just wanted to eat was that too much to ask? Jackson was at home, he'd left him alone when he shouldn't have, and he just wanted food... This was taking forever. Why was it taking so long?

Adrian simply waited until Sam was done surveying him to move towards the ladder, it didn't matter what the guy thought...it just mattered that he finally got to eat. Was this finally the end of this god awful trip? He didn't want to talk anymore. Every part of him just wanted to devour something. There was nothing else that would be as satisfying.

He was told to move towards the ladder, which he did without delay. The boy hastily picked up his feet, making his way towards the rusted metal. It was going to feel so great to finally get out of the sewers, it smelled awful, he felt sick, he couldn't even think straight. Adrian had never felt like this before, he'd never felt like he'd go off of instinct alone... But if he saw a person, a human, who knew what he'd do.

The boy grabbed the rungs of the ladder and started to climb, as quickly and agilely as possible, his only goal was to get out. But where did this even lead to? It's not like he'd been told. Well, he guessed he'd find out.

Once Adrian was out, the rancid stench of waste that had overpowered him in the sewage pipes almost immediately dissipated into the clear night air of outside. It was no warmer than it was below ground - in fact, much the opposite; there was a slow, rolling breeze that swirled around Adrian's neck and ankles, seemingly flushing away his body heat as he stood in the open.

The surroundings were not obviously familiar to Adrian. It was perhaps a part of London that he had never visited, or even heard of, though it seemed ordinary enough. Behind Adrian was a wide, empty road and in front of him was a complex of what looked like apartment buildings similar to the one in which he and Jackson lived together.

Sam had waited several moments before following Adrian up the ladder, noiselessly pushing down on the rungs with his hands and feet until his head and torso were jutting out from the manhole.

"Okay, nearly there," he breathed, twisting around to face Adrian and resting his forearms on the pavement that surrounded the passage. "You know, it's going to take me a while to get home after this, lad. You should be th-"

Stop.

Sam had stopped talking. His speech had just ended, mid-sentence, mid-word, but his mouth was still open. In fact, it seemed to be getting wider, his jaws parting to such an impossibly wide angle that the corners of his mouth split and spurted blood, creating an opening nearly the width of his entire face.

Splash. Blood erupted from the back of the man's throat, spattering over the ground, over Adrian's legs. From somewhere within his mouth protruded a blade. Forwards, the blade pushed, further through Sam's head and towards Adrian, lifting and unhinging his skull until it exploded outwards in another spurt of hot scarlet liquid.

"Old guys sneaking around my camp like that," muttered a familiarly deep and clear voice, "Really pisses me off." The blade retracted from Sam's split head, and the older ghoul's body slid downwards and back into the sewers from which he had come. The weapon appeared to soak up the blood like a dry sponge, absorbing it into the tip until there was nothing left on its shining blue surface.

Lee stepped forwards from his place in the shadow of the road and regarded Adrian with a nose wrinkled in disgust. His arm returned to its ordinary position beside the man's torso, allowing the kagune to unravel and retract into the flesh below his shoulders.

Dead Enmity

A violent shudder coursed through Adrian the second he got out into the open. Damn it was cold. He was quick to his feet, hopping onto the ground above and standing himself up, brushing off his trousers. It felt great to be out of the sewers. Why did they even have to go through there? Was this some secret place or something?

Didn't look like it.

As he looked around he noticed that the area they were in didn't look to different to some areas of London he'd seen before, he didn't recognise this place in particular, but he recognised the style of it. Apartment building, road, nothing new. What were they doing here? Was this the way or something? He didn't even know how to get back home without going through the sewers again, but he really didn't want to have to go back through again. Was there any other way he could go? There had to be right?

Whilst finally starting to survey his surrounds Adrian heard Sam's voice from below him, he spun around, staring at the man. Nearly there, good. He hoped this was worth it. The boy was going to say something when Sam seemed to suddenly cut himself off, much to Adrian's surprise, then something...quite...unnatural...started to happen. The man's jaw practically unhinged itself, sending blood flying all over the male in front of him. Adrian's eyes went wide and he stumbled backwards, what...what was happening?

Before he even had time to comprehend that a bloody head had been unhinged from it's body, bursting off before him in a mess of crimson liquid, some of the only colour in the dark night.

Adrian was covered in blood again, and completely in shock. He blinked, looking down at himself, then back up as the body of the man who had been guiding him fell into oblivion. He didn't know what to say... His eyes were wide, he was struck with a strange sensation of panic. What...was this? Who...had...

He looked up.

A voice. A familiar voice. He knew that voice.

A man Adrian had seen before stepped out of the shadows and the boy unconsciously took another step backwards, he stared up at the bald head that he almost fought not too long ago. That voice... That face... The boy's head cocked to the side, he was starting to take all of the man in, just to be sure, it couldn't be him...couldn't it? Surely not. Though just as he was doing so he felt another particularly awful bout of pain in his head.

Adrian winced, a hand going to his head, eyes squeezing closed. He needed to eat. Anything...Anything at all. Oh god. Fuck. He couldn't wait too much longer.

No. Focus.

He forced his eyes open, standing up as straight as he could once again, and locked his eyes on Lee. Was he going to try and kill him again? Did he even realise it was him? Adrian wanted to say something, he opened his mouth as if he was about to, but nothing was coming out...he couldn't speak, it was hard enough to focus, he didn't need to add to that.

The redness in Lee's dark eyes dissolved into their usual combination of white and brown, but his glare did not disappear with the intense colours. Instead, his expression seemed to grow more sour as he continued to stare at Adrian, taking in his image.

"It's you," he eventually growled, arms crossing over as he approached the boy with slow, wide steps. Lee was not dressed for the cold of the night; he wore the same tattered rain coat as the last time he and Adrian had met, with torn trousers and the same bare and battered feet. Somehow there was yet more dirt crusted in the creases of his clothing and the crevices in his dry skin than before. "You're the freak from the alley. What the hell are you doing here? The fuck have you done with Claire?"

Dead Enmity

Being approached was not something Adrian wanted right now, and so as Lee took a step forwards he took three quick, stumbling steps backwards. He didn't want to be any closer than he had to. The two times he'd met this man he'd been unfit to fight, why? Why couldn't he just be healthy enough to defend himself.

When asked what he did with Claire Adrian looked visibly confused. He didn't even know where that girl was...how was he suppose to know? He didn't do anything with her! But...he didn't say that. Instead he let out something that sounded like a quiet growl, a sort of warning for Lee to 'back the fuck up'. His hand was still on his head and it was obvious that he was in pain, he didn't want this, he didn't want to fight. It was hurting too much, he felt too disorientated and desperate to actually have to think about how to attack and dodge another person. Of all people why did he had to run into this guy?

He could feel himself slipping further and further into desperation by the second, it...it hurt so much. He wanted it to stop. The stabbing in his head was back, he was shaking, both from the cold and from the insanity he could feel himself slipping into, and now he wanted to curl up and cry more than ever. He didn't even know how to get out of here...and Lee wasn't just going to let him go.

Lee continued to advance on Adrian, his steps becoming wider and faster as he chased the younger boy all the way against the wall of the nearest building. With a hand he reached out and grabbed at the space around Adrian's head, finding the boy's wrist in his fingers and dragging it down against the bricks.

"Quit looking at me like that, would you? You have a lot of explaining to get done, you little prick," the man spat, pushing and grinding Adrian's hand into the wall with an incredible force unseen in any normal human. This ghoul was putting his whole strength of seven men into the act of intimidation, and he wasn't going to let go.

"Hey, Lee! Who're ya killing this time?" piped a voice much higher-pitched and more lighthearted-sounding than Lee's. It was a voice that both the boy and his attacker knew, and Lee, whilst keeping his grip on Adrian's hand, craned his neck in the direction of the voice, eyebrows raised in surprise.

"C-Claire!" he spluttered as a familiarly thin and bony figure emerged limb by limb from the manhole. Claire shook her head as she felt the chill of the open air's breeze. Like Lee, she too was wearing the same clothes as when she and Adrian last encountered each other - the tatty denim self-fashioned dress and bare feet crusted with fresh blood.

"Oh! It's him!" Claire exclaimed in the same round Irish accent.

"Yeah, it is-"

"Don't kill 'em, Lee! I spent all that time looking for him an' all..."

Lee appeared nearly to choke on his own breath. Free hand scratching at his bald head, he fired Claire another question:
"That's where you were? You scared me and Taylor to death, you know."

"Sorry, Lee," Claire mumbled, scraping the hard skin on the bottom of her feet against the ground. She chose not to make eye contact with her elder at this point. "I jus' picked up his scent. Had to."

"And where's the food?"

"I gave it to Tay."

Dead Enmity

Adrian was almost falling over his own feet by the time his back hit the wall, really? Right now? He was...actually going to get into a fight. He couldn't do it right now...he needed to eat something. Wait...was it possible for ghouls to eat other ghouls? Did...it work like that? Maybe he could-

Just as he was thinking about this his hand was yanked away from his head and scraped against the wall behind him, the boy screamed and kicked his legs forwards in an attempt to make the other let go. He Didn't have any explaining to do! He didn't hurt anyone! If anything Lee had hurt more people than he had! Why was he going to get questioned, he knew nothing!

Then there was a voice both of the two recognised. Adrian's head turned just as Lee's did. Claire? That was the girl who had...called him granny, right? He still didn't understand why, but he didn't really want to right now. They were just nattering away about something whilst he was pinned against the wall by his hand, staring daggers at any who caught his eye.

Claire said she'd been looking for him. Why was she looking for him? He was trying to stay away from her, he didn't really expect to be put in this position, and would Lee let go of his hand already! This was extremely uncomfortable!

Another low growl came Adrian and he was about to lash out at Lee when he heard the word 'food'. His interest was immediately peaked, his head snapped up like a dog's and he was staring at Claire with more interest than before. She had food? They all had food? He wanted some! Where was it? Was it here? She said it was with...Tay... Was that the other boy who had been with them before? Where was he? Was he coming here? Adrian hoped so.

Whilst his interest had been peaked he felt another wave of immense pain wash over him and the boy whined, attempting to double over, but his hand was still pinned. It seemed to aggravate him, since as he looked up his gaze was somewhere close to murderous. He cried out and started rabidly struggling against Lee to get his hand out of its position against the wall. He attempted to kick, hit, and he even tried biting Lee's hand. The boy was acting like a wild animal, he just wanted to be let go!

As Adrian sank his teeth into the hardened skin of Lee's hand, the man suppressed the quick, jerking movement of a flinch and instead forced himself to tut and spit at the boy, his expression still dark and cold. There was blood welling around Adrian's jaw where the skin had been pierced, but Lee hadn't even noticed it. Instead, he raised a leg and extended it to jab into Adrian's stomach. He did it again and again, and even though the attack wasn't strong, Lee grinned each time he felt his bare toes pushing through Adrian's flesh.

"Lee! Lee, stop that, would you!" Claire shouted, her voice suddenly sharp and high-pitched. Beneath the straggly, matted locks of white-blonde hair gleamed two burning white eyes narrowed in frustration.

"No," Lee growled, putting his foot down to try kicking with his other leg. "This little fu- err, this little idiot's getting what he damn well deserves."

"Hey! I heard you nearly swearin' there! And cut it out, he hasn't done nothing."

There was a low nasal snort from Lee.
"Nothing? Hell's sake, kid, you're not for real, are you?"

"What do you-"

"He invaded our hiding place," Lee hissed and jabbed a foot in Adrian's belly. "Then he wrestled with Taylor." He kicked again. "After that, he set the doves on us." He kicked Adrian again. "And to top it all off, he's somehow got your bloody grandma's kagune."

There was a moment of silence. Claire's face reddened and she puffed out her cheeks, pushing her head down into her chest, and suddenly she began to repeatedly stomp her feet against the ground whilst letting out a low squealing noise.

"Oh jeez," Lee muttered under his breath and waited for Claire's explosion which, surely enough, followed closely after the tantrum.

"Arrgh! But we tried t'kill him first, Lee! It ain't fair to call 'em out for fighting back. An' besides, we shook those doves so it doesn't matter one bit, it was you who made all the noise and brought 'em over to our alley, anyway. Oh! And it's not even our alley, so this kid wasn't trespassing nowhere."

"Claire, it's not-" Lee began, but Claire had not finished speaking.

"Not what? You're not owning no alley, Lee! We even said it would be a good place to hide, it's jus' that someone else found it whilst me and Tay were out shaking off the doves. And... Well, I don't know how he's got my granny's wings, but we ain't gonna find out if you're killing him now anyways."

There was another kick to Adrian's stomach, but this one was weak and thoughtless, Lee's toes barely pressing into the flesh. Shortly afterwards, Lee released Adrian and stepped away, arms dropping to his sides and then folding upwards in front of his chest again.
"I wasn't going to kill him," the bald man grumbled, turning his nose up from Adrian first and Claire next. The muscles in his cheeks appeared to twitch as he spoke, and there was a tiny wobble in his chin. Claire frowned and continued to boredly scrape her foot against the ground that had been messed with Sam's blood.

Dead Enmity

The taste of blood was a little more pleasant that Adrian would have ever expected, in fact he wanted to rip the flesh off with his teeth and devour it, but he didn't. Yes. He was getting very desperate. If he was given the opportunity he had no reason not to eat another ghoul right? Well...unless that couldn't actually be done...he didn't know, he wasn't used to this behaviour in the first place. He'd never bitten someone like this before, he was just holding onto Lee's hand with his teeth, waiting for the guy to get off of him...but...he just wasn't phased. What was this?

He would have kept hold if it weren't for the sharp pain he felt in his gut as he was kicked for the first time. It wasn't particularly strong, but it was strong enough. Adrian's body was small and he wasn't exactly built to withstand kick after kick, he was built to avoid them, which he wasn't doing a very good job of at that moment.

The boy cried out, removing his teeth from Lee's hand and doubling over slightly. Though he wasn't given much time to recover as another kick was swiftly delivered to his gut, then another, then another. He barely even had time to breath, in fact he wouldn't have been surprised if Lee winded him because of this. It only made Adrian even more pissed off than he already was, he'd fucking hack this guy to pieces...he would... He just...had to get free first... Fuck!

It was hard to focus on the conversation that was going on in front of him when he was repeatedly being kicked, but Adrian knew one thing, Claire was trying to stand up for him. Why? What reason did she have to defend him at all? He didn't understand... Why...Why didn't she want to defend him?

Again he cried out and struggled against Lee, trying to force him into letting go, it was hurting his hand, he stomach killed, he...he didn't want this... He just wanted to eat something... Okay? That's all. That's...That's all...

Just after Adrian had burst out screaming, Claire seemed to burst out with a rant protecting him, which didn't make sense to Adrian. He was stopped in his tracks, left staring at her, unsure of what to think. Of course then there was the part about him having her granny's kagune. So, that's what that was about? Was that why she started crying? He...didn't mean to make her cry.

Whilst he'd blanked out, completely focusing on Claire, Lee kicked his stomach again, breaking him out of his daze, before letting go of him and backing up. Adrian's back immediately went against the wall of course, his knees coming to his chest. His arms were wrapped around his stomach, which was now also causing him considerable pain, and his head was down. Tears were welling up in the boy's eyes as he gently rocked back and forth, he didn't mean for this to happen. Someone just died...and now he didn't understand what was going on. He didn't want to fight, it hurt too much, he wasn't in the position to defend himself. He...He couldn't do it...

"Sure you weren't," Claire huffed, mimicking Lee's gesture by crossing her arms and standing up on her toes to try and meet the man at eye level. The effort was wasted, however, because no matter how high the young girl stretched, she could not hope to come close to matching the other ghoul's height. She seemed to realise this, and stomped on the ground a couple more times to make a point of her frustration.

Lee didn't pay attention to Claire's childish act, for he had his eyes fixed on the ground. Despite the fact that he had showed little sign of pain during his assault on Adrian, the male's left hand was now busily rubbing at the cuts on his right, pushing at the wounds to keep any more blood from dripping out.

After noticing that she was being ignored, Claire jumped up in front of Lee's face and made an attempt to catch his attention with more speech.
"I mean, you killed the old guy, didn't you? An' he didn't even do nothin' but stick his head up. I saw it happen, he fell right on my feet. Bully, it nearly made me cry, it did."

"Don't you have anything better to complain about?" Lee growled, tutting down at the young girl without looking at her. He was still staring downwards at the puddle of blood which had dripped from his hand. "You go on and on about the same goddamn things."

"'Cause you never listen, that's why."

"Don't be stupid. I spend half my waking life listening to your mindless babbling."

Claire stuck her tongue out at Lee.
"That's mean."

"Claire," Lee sighed, finally freeing a hand to rub against the nape of his neck whilst grimacing. Maybe the pain was still bothering him, or maybe he was reaching a point of exasperation. Either way, the man did not look as though he were comfortable.

"Yeah?" Claire chirped.

"Get to base already."

"Why?"

Like he had previously done in the alley, Lee smacked a hand against his face and then dragged downwards with his fingers, letting out a deeply exaggerated sigh as he did so. It was several seconds before he attempted to speak again.
"Because," he began slowly, "You're acting up, and Taylor's waiting for us. What the hell are you sticking around for? Go, go!"

Claire suddenly cast a longing stare at Adrian. There wasn't really any sympathy in her ghostly white eyes, but nor was there any hostility. She just looked... Sad. In fact, she even reached an arm out towards the boy, but there was no time to go back for him because Lee had already abandoned the scene.

"Um, hey," Claire whispered, ducking her head forwards whilst slowly and reluctantly stepping backwards. "You wouldn't mind coming along, would you? Lee's a bully, but he'll stop hitting you when he gets bored. And I wanna ask you some stuff."

He couldn't help it, he didn't want to be this desperate, he didn't want to do to others what had been done to him...but he had to eat. He was like anyone else, if he didn't eat, he'd starve. It was going to suck, he needed something now and all he had gotten from this expedition was a dead neighbour and beaten up by the ghoul he'd met in that back alley the day before. All he wanted to do now was eat.

As the two in front of him spoke Adrian simply kept his head down, trying not to cry, he didn't want to cry. He just wanted to eat something, at this point he'd literally eat dirt if it'd help him in any way, but he knew that that was silly and that it wouldn't. Flesh was what he needed to eat...and the taste of blood was still in his mouth, which only made it ten times worse.

There were footsteps, he heard footsteps as someone started to walk away from the scene. Good. They were going. But...how did he even get back? That was going to be tricky. He couldn't stay out here, could he? Maybe there would be someone around that he could- No. No no no...he didn't want to... This wasn't a choice anymore! He had to! He couldn't fight against it! It was only going to cause him more pain!

It was then that he heard a quiet voice, were they talking to him?

Adrian raised his head, his eyes meeting with Claire's as she asked him to come alone with her. She...She wanted him to come? The boy blinked, biting the inside of his cheek and cocking his head to the side. She was confusing.

He'll stop hitting you when he gets bored.

How long was that going to be? Adrian didn't really think he liked being hit, maybe he should just stay there. Wait. Didn't she say she had food earlier? Yeah, yeah she did.

That was what got the small male on his feet, he didn't really care for anything else, he just wanted the food. If she wanted to ask him questions that was okay, but she'd have to feed him to get him to answer.

Once on his feet, Adrian held his hands behind his back, messing with his sleeves and fingers to help control himself, he just hoped that he could last long enough. He nodded to Claire, starting to move forwards.

Claire's path may have been difficult to follow for most ordinary people, but luckily for Adrian, he sported a similar body type to that of the young girl who had so quickly scurried away. She ran up the wall with quick, flashy movements of her fingers and toes, then leapt from her height over a nearby wrought iron fence.

For a moment after rising to her feet from the quadrupedal landing position, Claire paused to check to her back. Satisfied that Adrian was not getting left behind, the girl nodded and faced forwards again. In front of her stood a small-looking wooden shed - the type of moss-rotten building that a park ranger would use to store his garden tools. The door had been boarded up and padlocked closed, but around the back was a wide hole in the browned planks of the wall.

Suddenly, Claire dived down to the ground and laid as flat against her belly as she could before crawling inside. The hole was oddly much too large for the splintered edges to catch on her patchy denim dress, and she had disappeared inside within seconds.

Dead Enmity

Claire was off like a shot, leaving Adrian in the dust. It had taken him a second to realise he had to move, but once he'd set off he kept up easily. The only motivating him to move was the thought of there being food at the end of all of this, he didn't really want to follow, he didn't know what they would do to him, but his hunger had started overpowering his reasoning a long time ago.

The way she moved was quite similar to himself, and the paths she took weren't all that different either. That's why it was easy to follow. By the time they got to the shed all of the questions Adrian had been thinking about had disappeared, and as Claire climbed through that hole in the wood he felt very inclined to follow. Sure, there could be something bad waiting on the other end, but who cared? If he didn't eat he might die anyway...so why should he worry about getting beaten? It wasn't anything new, and Claire seemed quick to defend him.

As Adrian swiftly climbed through he could hear a voice on the other side, a voice he'd heard before.

"You guys're back? I'd been waitin' 'ere forever now... Can't you be quicker next time..."

It sounded like that boy who'd blocked his attack the last time he'd met these guys on an alleyway.. He wondered how badly he'd hurt him with that hit, it wasn't like it had been anything small, he'd tried to strangle the guy.

Unsurprisingly, the young girl who had led Adrian through the unfamiliar streets of London was sat in the shed's corner, beneath a dislodged ceiling beam which had been eaten away by moss and ants at the edges.

Claire was sat on her buttocks, knees folded up with her feet pulled together by the grip of her long, bony arms. She was rocking back and forth restlessly as she faced Taylor and the bald-headed Lee, the two men in her trio who were sat on the opposite side. Between Lee's folded arms was a long and limp, pale mass bent over in the middle. A human leg.

"Aw, sorry, Tay," Claire mumbled into the skin of her knees, her lips pressed against the scabbed flesh where a recent scrape was quickly healing over. "I was out."

Lee, who had his legs outstretched with bare feet brushing against the bottom of Claire's dress, released a strange animal-like noise halfway between a snort and a grunt.
"Out screwing around in the sewer."

"Hey! I was jus' looking for that guy, I'll have you know!"

"And God forbid you ever go again. Flaming lunatic, you could've been killed."

Cheeks puffed out with air, Claire whipped her head to the side in an act of defiance, but her jaw fell open when she caught sight of Adrian entering the shed through the hole in the wall
"Oh! It's you! So you did-"

"Hey, whoa!" Lee's bark of shock cut straight through Claire's words, causing the girl to cast the man a sharp glare from her seat on the floor. Still, she didn't dare take the conversation back from her older companion. "What the... F- Claire, what in the hell is this!?" he spluttered, arm tightening around the leg of meat rested on the inner side of his elbow.

"Well, I was jus- thinking that maybe he could-"

Lee wasn't listening to the answer, so Claire didn't bother to finish saying it. He simply dropped the leg to the floor and rose to his own feet, though the height of the low shed roof forced him to crouch and crane his neck upwards in order to regard Adrian. This time his eyes were not narrowed, but stretched wide into near-circles with his thin, dark eyebrows curved downwards.
"Taylor," the man hissed out of the corner of his mouth, "What do you make of this - this ... Thing?"

Dead Enmity

"Why wouldya be lookin' for that kid?" Taylor asked, he was sitting at opposite end of the shed, back against a wall, legs crossed. The boy had what seemed to be a human arm in his hand, and he wasn't wasting any time eating it. After finishing his sentence he'd gotten straight to ripping flesh from bone, an awful tearing noise coming along with it. "He's not tha' important right? Like, I get it, but still, I guess Lee's right, you don't know how strong the guy is..." Obviously he was still a little surprised from when Adrian had so skillfully been able to jump up and turn a situation on him when he'd tried to screw the guy over. That didn't seem like any street rat, it seemed like someone who had had professional training...but the guy looked so young. He just didn't get it.

Seconds later there was a scuffling noise and Adrian had entered the shed, much to everyone's surprise. The boy simply sat at first, his legs cross, hands on ankles, he didn't make any attempt to be violent, even if he was itching to eat, there was one of him and three of them... He didn't even seem to notice Lee's reaction him, no, he was way too enveloped by the smell of the place.

Adrian sniffed the air and his head immediately turned to look at the leg that Lee had just dropped. Food. They did have food. His eyes seemed to widen slightly out of hunger, and he just stared. If this had been any other point he might have been a little freaked out by the dismembered human leg on the ground, but not right now, not when it was all he'd wanted all night. He needed this...he needed to eat.

It was hard to stop himself from darting past Lee and straight to the food he'd dropped, he seemed to move slightly, as if trying to edge towards it, but he didn't make any drastic sprint for it. Even if he could slip through the man's legs, Lee would catch him eventually, and they were in a very small space right now. So he sat, rocking gently, completely focused on the leg on the floor.

"Huh?" Taylor blinked and looked up, shocked by Adrian's sudden appearance, "Wait... What? Claire! Did you bring 'im back 'ere?!" He looked between the girl and then Adrian, unsure of what to think about the situation. Why did Claire want to bring a danger back to the place? What did she want from him now? "And wait...you guys saw 'im again?! When!?" He was obviously in shock.

It took him a moment to study Adrian and answer Lee's question,
"What do I make of it? Don't get why such a thing is 'ere... Seems dangerous..."

"Yeah," Lee grumbled, his legs tensing and tightening as his unmoving eyes caught Adrian's slow movement towards the leg. "That's what I thought. Taylor, help me get rid of him."

"Lee!" Claire interjected, grabbing at the back of the man's knee and pushing so as to force it to buckle. The movement caused the larger man to lose his balance and sink back to the floor with a loud thump. "Tay, don't listen to 'em! I can explain this all, I swear it."

"Shut up, Claire, leave this to the adults," came the growling warning from Lee.

"Nuh-uh, I know what I'm doing!" A thin and pale tongue protruded from Claire's mouth for a second as she faced Lee again, standing at around the same height as the man when he sat up on his knees. "Tay, you're with me, right? Look't him, this is the guy from before."

"We are aware of that."

"Yeah! I smelled him in the sewers, he was with the old Linker, I swear it."

There was a shift in expression on Lee's face as his hard and unforgiving appearance contorted into one of confusion.
"The old man was a Linker?"

"He was, as well. I found 'is tag when you dropped the body on my feet."

"Oh." Lee scratched at the back of his bald head and bit down on his lower lip, turning back to stare at Adrian. He was suddenly frowning and staring wall-eyed at something far away that nobody else could see. "So the kid's with them, too?"

Claire raised her thin and bony shoulders in a shrug, then shot a quick glance at the boy in question once more.
"Dunno," the girl admitted as she lifted up her hands to play with the locks of straggly hair, "Maybe. But I was just thinking we shouldn't be hurting him, jus' in case, y'know? Oh! Hey, I've got an idea."

"Huh?"

Claire didn't open her mouth to explain her plans to Lee, but simply turned around, winked at Taylor and grabbed the severed leg from the floor of the shed. With a flick of her long arm, she flung the leg up through the air, causing it to hit the beams on the ceiling and swiftly drop down with the foot resting in Adrian's lap.

"Buh - Claire!"

"Calm, Lee!" Claire shushed, waving her outstretched fingers at the bald man. Her eyes were wide again. "He's hungry, can't you see that?"

"What about us?" Lee complained, but surprisingly left the food in Adrian's clutches. The cheeks on his face were twitching again as he glanced back and forth between the girl and the boy.

"There's more in the wheelie bin."

Dead Enmity

Taylor kept looking back and forth between Lee and Claire, he didn't know who to listen to...one of them wanted him to help get rid of Adrian, whilst the other wanted the boy to stay. What reason did they have to keep him around? It didn't make sense...

"He could hurt us Claire." He replied, but made no move to go after Adrian, Claire would be mad at him if she needed something from the guy...maybe he should just stay out of it and let the other two figure it out between themselves. They were always talking about something, differing in opinions.

They went from that to an old man that Taylor knew nothing about, but it seemed the guy was a Linker...which made Adrian one too in his eyes.
"Well, if you're gonna hurt a Linker, might as well just go tell 'em... She's probably right Lee...shouldn't hurt the guy..." His eyes were on Adrian now, the boy looked hungry, should they feed him or not? Well...that was more Lee's choice than his own... Claire seemed to want to give him food though, since the next thing Taylor saw was a leg being thrown over to the kid.

Adrian's eyes followed the leg as it was thrown into the air, he wasn't really focused on where it was meant to go though and so when it landed in his lap he was pretty shocked. His eyes widened as he stared at the leg, was she...giving this to him? No way.

He looked up to Claire, then down at the leg, then up at Claire again, then to Lee, then down at the leg. He was...really allowed to... Adrian didn't think anymore about it, he eagerly grabbed the leg, his once pain filled eyes lighting up, and then in seconds he'd bitten down and torn off flesh. Sure, it felt strange and there was blood on him now, but swallowing that flesh was the best thing that had happened to him that entire night. The minute he started to get food inside of him he felt so much calmer, so much better... He wasn't really thinking about the fact that it was a human he was eating.

Adrian visibly relaxed once he'd swallowed the first piece of meat, he seemed a little less on edge, and a lot more upbeat. Of course the pain hadn't just disappeared, but he felt a lot better than before, and so he stared back at the leg and continued to rip pieces of flesh off with his teeth like a starved animal. He already felt so much better, and he was actually able to look around the room whilst chewing, the hostility all but gone from his eyes.

"Huh..." Taylor leaned back from his once tense position, "Guess you were right Claire..."
