The boy was running. Not just running for himself, no. The boy carried the weight and the destiny of his entire family, all his friends, in his hands as he climbed the stairs. His footsteps echoed against the shiny black bricks and stones that surrounded him. His guilt ran through him as he ran through the castle, his breathing mirroring the the slow heartbeat of the dying guards below in the throne room. He didn't want to kill them. But he was told, by his own father, that if it came to it, he had to. Wiping his tears away, the boy stopped out outside a window, narrowly a glowing white arrow as it smashed through. Peeking through the shattered portal, he winced, seeing the massacre between the two people, black smoke billowing across the battlefield and white shining as its used against its masters opponents. Still, the boy had a mission. He kept running, making sure to not run into any more guards, especially not any royals.

FInally, as he heard more trumpets play from the walls outside, the boy dressed in white found the attic of the room. It was full of junk, from failed experiments to old portraits. However, no matter the worth of the treasures, the heir came to the center of the room, and held up the wrapped item above the floor. A white light exuded from the bottom, hitting the floor. The ground shook slightly, as a pedestal made of the same black stone from the castle rose to meet the item. Resting it upon the cursed table, the white-clad boy unwrapped the item. There, lay a marble-cut board, that mirrored the colors of the battlefield after the Corruption. Backing up, he knew that his other, the Black Kings heir, was doing the same in the opposing castle. Then, from across wavelengths, the two put one finger on the board, and said one word.

"Checkmate."

The room began to spin. All sound was sucked form the air. Warriors and magicians alike froze on the battlefield, the towers collapsing the ground. The heirs slowly faded away, as the two boards floated into the air, slowly spinning faster and faster. The group below the castles split, the kingdoms subjects running as a line of gray energy bordered the castles and the battlefield, cutting their subjects off from their leaders. The ground behind the energy began to rise, gravity becoming a dream, as two lights, each oe opposing the other, enveloped the mass of land that ruled the two lands.

There's a small town in southern Indiana, know as Owens Burrow. Its never been that populated, and very few people live there who don't know each other. The High School, Burrow High, is going to be opening for the year soon, and summer comes to a close as the air begins to chill and the trees leaves become colored. Teenagers are getting antsy, and their parents are as well. However, there's one thing going on that no one would have expected to happen in such a small town. A garage sale. One of the oldest people in town, Mrs. Bughouse, is giving away some of her old things from her childhood after her inheritance allowed her to move away with her husband, Gary.

At this sale, a group of friends (four to be exact) find the ultimate catch: two antique chessboards in pristine condition. They agree (since they are big board game nerds), to pair up, and go against each other in a match to see whos intellect is the best. Video Games get dull after a while, after all.

However, these two simple games played at the opposite ends of town aren't simply some quirky activities to pass by time. When the games begin, they unleash the Two Kingdoms, the ones which chess is modelled after. Each pair is given the title of "heir" by their respective kingdom, be it Black or White, and the realize they must do the impossible: beat their friends in a game of chess, with their lives. Either they kill each other to leave this dispute once and for all, or be stuck amongst the checkered royalty of the castles, and their town remains in a constant pause till the end of time.

Will friends betray friends?

Or will the four kids find a way to break the curse and get their home back, without murdering each other?
