It is a third party program. A lot of other people use it. Think of it as Skype. It's a completely different company so to speak... ha ha, teamspeak, get it? -shuffles away-

Yeah, this kinda sucks. Teamspeak is useless. Can't understand anyone. And no mic. Will be a couple months before I'll get some time off to get one - one that might work anyways.

Just dantastic, not only can I not chat with people now, you gotta rub it my face by putting it on something else I can't use!

You didn't hear this from me, but... it's sometimes possible to install a program on a flash drive and then run it from there on a school computer.

I've always found that I could understand people pretty well, so long as they weren't talking over each other. o: If it's any consolation, TeamSpeak does have a chatbox that you can type in which I always forget exists.

Well, there's always options for communicating with people on the site. PMing your buddies is still a thing, OOC threads for roleplays will always exist, and if I'm not mistaken, the discussion forum is already starting to become a little more active. Sorry to hear that you won't be able to use it, though. :/

Well, the Teamspeak is so poorly organized I couldn't even figure out where people were supposed to chat. There is a general chat, but noone was there. I used to run a Ventrilo. Much better system, especially when security is an issue. Of course with Vent someone has to pay for the site. And setup is a bit harder, especially for the computer illiterate.

Up until recently, TeamSpeak hasn't really been a popular option with users, so it's just been the same few people using it, and because of that I feel like everyone just had their respective groups of friends (TeamSpeak at least gives the option for private chatrooms, which is nice imo). However, I think more people are going to start using TeamSpeak, especially once integration is complete, so hey, maybe you'll start seeing people in the general chat now! Vent sounds nice, but I don't think we really want people spending any more money than they have to. :/ If only it were free.

Still, if the little TS guide that we have still leaves you confused on its setup or anything, feel free to ask me or any of the other staff members more about it. I'm still a bit of a newbie with the program, myself, but I'll try my darndest. >:'U

This makes me so sad... because TS hates my life. I understand, of course, given how the SB was basically just slowly dying, but man :( It was one of the things that really kept me connected to the site, even if it was mostly just to procrastinate. Do we have any kind of idea on when a replacement might happen to come about?

Talking is optional anyway. Teamspeak has fully functional text/typing capabilities.

Know multiple gaming clans that had forum/ts integration where it auto gave permissions to clan members depending on what group they were in on the forums, good idea.

this is honestly shocking news, i'm saddened by this.

rest in piece, shoutbox. you've done some of these old dogs well in your use.

Well it's a darn shame that real life has kept me busy for the past couple of weeks and I come back to find out the shout box was shut down and here I was looking forward to catching up with all of you :( Oh well

WHERE I SAY.
Have you tried PMs or Roleplays?

I've been told that its very successful :P !

While true, my experience with TS and the RpN crowd has been that unless you use voice chat you tend to be ignored. It might be due to people not having TS at the fore and thus they only hear those who are speaking and simply don't see the text chat.

No more excuses now, Elle! ;) LOL

Excuses. They come at the price of a dime a dozen.

And people dont usually ignore TS, they turn off the notification sounds because people tend to get too happy with the enter key and the last thing anyone wants to hear is -DING-, -DING-, -DING-, -DING-, five thousand times.

I don't like overlays for Teamspeak personally but there are a few that show comments and such over DirectX engine based games. They show things like who joins, comments in the TS chat, the rooms, etc.

To be bluntly honest, I'm not fond of this at all.

I understand it, but at the same time, a lot of my longevity to this site has been through that SB and chat and the people I'm able to sneak in and talk with.

It'll be very missed. Makes me really wish I could use Teamspeak from work. Bothersome.

As for a real time chat... I really don't have much faith to give there from past experience. Of all the chats that have been tried, people seem to push further away from them rather than flocking to the newness.

We'll see what the future holds.
