Also, ts isnt free on android. That's probably why some of us are put off it.

One day we'll have a proper IM system for the site. Until then, we DO have the luxury of this site being run on XenForo software, which means we have nearly-instant alerts to PM and thread responses. That's something I'm very grateful for.

I have a few questions. What is TeamSpeak and how does it work? Also, what was wrong with the chat bar option? I really loved that concept even better than the normal Shoutbox, yet it kept being taken down. That tells me that it must be inefficient for the site, but I'm wondering I could get any details on that.

Teamspeak is effectively a voice chatroom. You can make sub-channels, set passwords so that only your friends can join that room/channel, and you can talk through your headset or just type like an IM.


To be blunt, we don't have the money required to purchase a well-programmed and maintained instant-messaging chat bar. A quality solution is an expensive solution, and I prefer to have an ad-free roleplay experience. The programs we've tried so far either didn't update with new messages properly (aka "pushing" notifications), used too many server resources, or caused site crashes for people on more delicate connections. Right now, the best chat solution we can provide you guys is a Teamspeak server.

We have no intentions of officially supporting something as old as that method of chatting, extremely insecure and unsafe.

Thank you, those are the answers I was looking for. Perhaps you could advertise a site fundraiser to get a proper chat bar. I know there are a lot of contributors to the site, and it continues to grow, so that might be an option if money is an issue.

We just finished a multi-month fundraiser (2k+!), that's what the green goal bar on the sidebar was for. We'll make an announcement the next time that the donation page is up.

Yes, I was aware of that. Of course this idea will take time, and I'm sure it's not the first thing on the bucket list. So keep up the good work!

It's good feedback! Put together a few more suggestions and post them in a proper suggestion thread when you get a chance.
