Yeah. I usually if not always try and take what people say in the media or when doing these kind of lists with a grain of salt. but it’s definitely not always easy. Still pretty frustrating and clearly bias and recency based or alternatively past based at times if not often. Big markets > Small Markets (franchise wise) Player X > Player Y…. Gets annoying even with a grain of salt attempting to simmer it down a bit. (Franchise wise it can divide even further when both teams are in the same market… But yeah.)
Exactly you’re 100% right. You’ve got it figured out man.

This is exactly why I say screw this lists and take them with a LARGE grain of salt.

Yeah haha, exactly why I tend to get my hockey news from a guy on YT rather then a sports network getting paid the big bucks to churn out the same typical rhetoric. (Although some network guys & gals I’m a fan of and like. But yeah, I’m sure you get what I mean. The overall tends to overshadow them)

EXACTLY. I’m not tryna get my news from a source getting paid big bucks by the big markets of NYC and Toronto.

Random but score wise just some of the results- Astros lose by five to LAA (Big W imo. I like Dusty but it’s the Astros so…. Haha I’m happy with it.) Brewers get a much needed win over the Reds (It’s been rough to watch lately as a Brew City fan) and just realized in my resulting Cooper-Phil comp that maybe after seeing the Marshall game results and thinking on history especially recent history…. Notre Dame Football might be the NCAAF’s version of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Lol

Good screw the Astros!

Good W for the Brewers.

Huge W for the Mets tonight, 11-3 over the Miami Marlins.

Lol then boo Norte Dame.

Agreed!

Agreed! Haha

Nice! A good time Win to add to their record.

Haha. I didn’t think about it before but it’s fitting. But yeah, Notre Dame can be one of those teams.

Hell yea, and a W against a divisional opponent.

Anders Lee our Islanders captain went to Notre Dame.

Yea good school.

Funny enough, they offered him a spot to play either hockey or football. He chose hockey.
Haha nice. Seems like that was a pretty solid choice for him. Don’t know his football background and skill level. But pretty solid choice with Hockey and where it’s led for him.

Yea apparently he was SUPER good at both sports and could have even been drafted into the NFL.

I always wanted to tell that story for some reason but I’ve never had a reason to until now lol.

I remember one game the guys in the Islanders booth calling the game were talking about it.
Oh haha nice and understandable. Cool story there

Also nice! The tid bits like that in the broadcast teams calling of the game is always pretty nice stuff there and one of
The bonuses of watching the local broadcast of games when possible. Even if it’s not your team. Imo.

Yea I love it.

Always a treat lol.

NHL Goalie Rankings 2022/2023 Edition (Personal opinion OFC using each team starter or possible starter):
1. Andrei Vasilevskiy
2. Igor Shesterkin
3. Connor Hellebuyck
4. Jacob Markstrom
5. Sergei Bobrovsky
6. Fredrik Andersen
7. Juuse Saros
8. Ilya Sorokin
9. Darcy Kuemper
10. Tristan Jarry
11. John Gibson (Needs a bounce back)
12. Phillip Grubauer (Seriously needs a bounce back
13. Thatcher Demko
14. Elvis Merzilkins
15. Jack Campbell
16. Jake Otteninger (I see him raising much higher)
17. Villie Husso (Very tempted to rank much higher)
18. Kaapo Kahkonen (Could & tempted to rank higher)
19. Anton Forsberg (Probably splits with Talbot)
20. Linus Ullmark (Probably splits with Swayman)
21. Jordan Binnington
22. Eric Comrie (Could maybe rank higher)
23. Marc-Andre Fleury (Age & Possible games used this season drops him lower then I’d normally rank the Flower)
24. Jonathan Quick
25. Pavel Francouz (Could maybe rank higher)
26. Jake Allen
27. Matt Murray
28. Mackenzie Blackwood
29. Logan Thompson (Could rank higher but very young and a lot on his shoulders this season. Lehner if healthy & playing would be a fair bit higher on the list for me)
30. Carter Hart
31. Karel Vejmelka (I feel bad for any goalie in Net for the Coyotes. Maybe ranks higher if not for who’s in front of him)
32. Petr Mrazek

Just some projections/rankings of goalies based purely off a combination of things that have formulated my own opinion on projected goalies this season. Also some I could see dropping and others raising higher but for now this is how I tentatively see them at this point. (Young goalies on the rise and veterans if unable to bounce back, some I’ve referenced in my list are definitely on the mind and could very easily change things.) But yeah, just a obviously subjective and self opinion list here for the hell of it after watching some more THG vids. Not a NHL official or anything, just the average fan. Lol not sure why I’ve added that in with it being obvious and all… but there you have it.

Interesting list. I do say I have to disagree with a lot of this but that’s the glory of having different opinions. You’re 100% entitled to them.

Very surprised on Hellebuyck’s rating. Imo he’s WAY too high. He’s just not that good any more and I see him on the decline.

Maybe I’m biased but Ilya Sorokin is WAY too low. He’s an excellent goalie and I certainly think he cracks the top 5.

Bob is also too high imo.

Freddy Andersen as well, a little too high imo. No doubt he’s good but I personally don’t think he’s #6 in the league good.

Darcy Kuemper is a hit or miss. I might have ranked him a little lower.

I’d have ranked Otter WAY higher.

John Gibson way too high imo. He’s older and not in his prime any more. Definitely would have ranked him towards the bottom ngl.

Thatcher Asenjo WAY too low on this list imo. 100% a top ten for me.

Francouz and Allen I might have ranked a tiny tiny bit higher.

Agreed with more of the bottom rankings and the reasons like Marc Andre Fleury, the poor kid Logan Thompson, people like Matt Murray and the GOD awful Petr Mrazek lol.

But at the end of the day it’s your opinion and my opinion is mine.

Neither one of us are right or wrong lol.

Yeah exactly why it’s the disclaimer lol.

I’m not there yet. Using a bit of the Advanced stats even for a down year for him, he was still pretty high on the ADS rating. Only taking that stat so far but plays a role in mine.

Bob & Andersen as well. Even if I think one is best to partner more then full time and the other I think is a bit overrated, their ADS that THG was using for a goalie situation for each team still has them pretty high.

Darcy fits the above bills as well. Needs to be healthy and consistent once the playoffs hit, but regular season Darcy can hit high.

I’m a fan of Otter, but I’ve also got to see more before jumping him to where I might based off his run last year. Dude is still pretty young.

Sorokin is high for me. But not yet there to start the year.

Demko is in that Jarry/Kuemper mix but I’ve got him a bit lower personally.

Grubauer & Gibson are tentative for now as already hinted for me. Last year wasn’t a typical for either one.

But at the end of the day it’s your opinion and my opinion is mine.

Neither one of us are right or wrong lol.
As I mentioned already, it’s definitely at the end and beginning of the post for a disclaimer. Haha.

Lists like these are very subjective and can change on the drop of a hat in each sport and position. So for me atleast, it’s a decent little time filler and not something I take nearly as seriously as others tend to. Though some lists can temp reactions but those are generally big bucks media.

Yea no worries I saw the disclaimer.

Fair enough on a lot of those tbh.

And yea Gru and Gibby sucked ass last year. Uncharacteristic.

At the end of the day yea I’m just glad that this is a fresh list from an average fan and not some big buck media company from Toronto.

I’m glad I don’t see Matt Murray at #1 because he’s a Leaf and Jack Campbell at #2 because he’s a former Leaf lmao.

Yeah it sucked for them both. Agreed. Teams in front of the goalies played a role as well in my rankings/early projections… If this was based purely off either the ADS rating or most/least liked this list would be far different for me.

Haha appreciate it and can agree if with you were the roles flipped. I viewed while another fan ranked.

Yeah lol, Murray had a better year if using the ADS rating (I already forgot the name of this stat… So ADS it is for now) then I thought he did and Forsberg while I’m a fan and think he can go underrated really had a impressive rating and surprised me. But Murray I would have a tough time ranking him too high. Pens Murray hasn’t been seen in awhile though stats and games watched over the past few years is limited compared to what others have for him. Campbell, yeah, placing him too high didn’t fit for me.

Ah that makes a lot more sense if the teams that played in front of the goalies played a big role in the rankings.

Yea dude idk where Pens Murray went lol, that was Matt Murray in his prime for sure.
