Chitchat Chat for baseball fans

Yeah, Charlotte was there originally til the early 2000’s were the Hornets, then got relocated due to a ownership deal/issue then expansion brought Charlotte back as the bobcats til New Orleans gave up the name years later. But yeah.

I saw that one. A one year 30 Million dollar deal for arbitration I think, either way a huge deal there for one year. Nice show of loyalty by him though. It’s really just sad that incompetent management and ownership is ruining a great field of talent that just needs some depth and right people in charge and on the bench coaching. Cause player wise they are pretty good and it’s definitely sad to see that wasted and fans having to live through this hardship. But part of me, I’m thinking this could be a massive off-season with one side thinking a massive overhaul will happen with even Ohtani and Trout being moved, Rendon too probably or a complete buy in and retool with smart moves to try and get this right for a big playoff run. It’s gotta be one or the other imo Can’t risk losing Ohtani for nothing after this one year deal is up and can’t expect Ohtani to sign long term with this mismanagement going on.
That’s some pretty interesting history I was definitely unaware of regarding that, cool info.

Crazy to me. Yes loyal but goodness, he should test free agency and take his talents elsewhere. I’m sure a lot of teams would be willing to throw a LOT of money at Ohtani.

I could be wrong, I’m not entirely sure but I thought I heard Arbitration being a word used with this deal. So seems like if somehow that’s the case then free agency wouldn’t be so easy cause the team still has rights to the player in their control during a certain period, so it’s just a matter of the money being agreed to or settled by a neutral judge/party/whatever it is in mlb. But I could be very wrong here and maybe misheard especially since I don’t know how Ohtani coming over from Japan would have Arbitration in his original deal since that’s usually relating to drafted players and prospects signed…. So idk. But yeah, I’m appreciative of loyalty cause my own small market raising and fandom but even that can only go so far, the Angels push it. I’d have definitely understood why he chose to leave if he did or does in the future. No doubts on the money he’s get and the trade value and return would be mind blowing for him. If Soto gets and commands what he got…. I could only imagine the return on Ohtani.

Oh I wasn’t aware. I don’t know the status of Ohtani and if he was even eligible or not to be a FA. But I guess he really is committed to helping that small market team. Loyalty at its finest.

Soto isn’t doing so hot for those Padres tbh lol. He’s been nothing short of disappointing.

I’m not either tbh. I just briefly heard on the TV yesterday about the deal while doing something else so I could have misheard that detail. If it was Arb related, I’m very shocked with Ohtani being outside of the typical Arb deals coming from Japan and all. Also shocked he chose to stick with the Angels if he had the option to sign elsewhere. He must either really like it there or that and got sold on the teams plans going forward. But true either way, nice to see there although definitely tough to see when teams fail that loyalty and talent.

I haven’t seen much of the Padres since Soto was traded lol. I’m not too shocked though tbh, the hype and expectations going to a team with high expectations and big money spending in recent years a rough start almost feels like a fair possibility for a young player. The Nats got a big return though so if this continues for Soto, the Nats will look pretty good if the prospects turn out and live up to the potential.

That’s interesting stuff. Yea I don’t know too much about Ohtani’s whole deal.

Exactly, the Padres have kinda fell short. I think the Mets will easily beat them in the post season.

Yeah, it was bothering me so went and double checked the espn story on the deal and did have arbitration. Which is mind boggling to me. but I guess I don’t understand MLB contracts with players from Japan. Well, i never claimed to know much on MLB contracts in general but now I know I knew even less then before with this news. I can’t recall ever seeing/hearing about both Matsui’s, Ichiro and Matsuzaka having arbitration deals or going through arbitration when they came over and contracts ran up or any other possible names I’m leaving out and forgetting.

Me either and above with recent search finds has my mind completely boggled. Confirms I really have no understanding with MLB contracts lol.

They have. It’s kinda sad to see especially when the Dodgers keep running at the top of the NL/entire league and tough to see when that run will end. I’m hoping the Rockies, Diamondbacks and Giants bounce back big to make it tougher for LA in that division. Especially would love to the D-Backs and Rockies to get back to winning ways. But agreed, Padres haven’t gotten quite right with how high they have been expected to with all the stars and spending they’ve done.

Mets should be able to win that series I agree.

Oh damn, speaking of names forgotten in that line of examples. Tanaka! I was a fan of that guy as well. Plus Darvish and many others but those two I can’t believe I forgot. But ah well either way point is the same for me.

Oh ya that’s a good one!

One of the few really good and reliable pitchers on those Yankees teams haha. C.C was great for a long time and a huge fan of his but not the same guy in the last few years of his career. Chapman was or can be great too. But Yeah, Tanaka great pitcher and too bad he went back to Japan.

Chapman’s ok. And yea, oh well, what are you gonna do. We have the stud Ohtani in our league now tho.

Cards 9th inning pitching let’s them down big. Yikes. Everything was going fine until the last inning. Phillies 6-3 in GM 1

Guardians take a close game over the Rays. Mariners shocked me a bit with a shutout over the Jays, Castillo pitched a strong game.

Keeping an eye on the Padres/Mets while watching some College football though.

Fucking pathetic performance by the Mets I’m too fucking angry at the Mets rn I turned it off. Can’t even talk about this shit excuse for a performance in a God damn playoffs game.

I ended up going into work for a few hours but saw the score. Uncharacteristic start from Scherzer. Padres played like the team everyone expects with all the money spent and big names there in San Diego and in a big game. Game 2 will be interesting imo.

Yea that was bad, still not happy about that.

Exactly on the Padres’ performance.

I even bought a Scherzer jersey.

Cleveland wins and goes to the next round to face the Yankees! Walk off home run in the 15th!

Hell of a game! Nice W for Cleveland too. Yankees/Guardians should be a interesting series with plenty of history especially with Francona and the Yankees.
