What can they do at this point? Just summon their spirit, like in their hand? They have no useful means of utilizing the spirit, unless its a weapon, I suppose. Can a beast type do anything at all?

Beast type gets to get a buff on the physical abiltiies. And might spawn certain beast attributes on their body

Yes. F/e Sam can make some chitin appear on his shoulders and hands and produce claw-like amber structures on his fingernails

Any idea how this hunt will work? Like are we gonna request beasts to run into? Or the Warlock just gonna keep throwing beasts at us until we settle on one?

As you see in the lore. You have to choose the beast you will be trying to aim to slay. And what ability will grant your character. For example, down here will be a spoiler on Sam's focus:

remember...those were examples of things. i'm gonna add the ones you come up with. The age retta can handle is 423 years and below.
