Stress With Legs
Introduction
The year is 2021. Clarksville is a city of around 11,000 people, with a norm-to-Changeling ratio of 1:100, a large difference for most Primacy cities. It is a fictional city around present-day East Arizona. The roleplay will be centered around this town, and the focus of the roleplay will be to find out the secrets surrounding Changelings and survive various attacks that will begin to take place in the would-be peaceful city.
Backstory
Sixty years ago on 28 July 1961, a strange event occurred: Approximately 1 out of every 800 people changed form. Some underwent small changes, such as a change in hair and eye color to another normal hair or eye color. Others, meanwhile, experienced major changes – changes that made them appear beast-like, while retaining a humanoid form and rational thoughts. From that day on, people who had experienced such changes found that they had certain abilities; some could run fast, others were able to communicate in an infinite number of languages – the list goes on. Following this day, babies were born with these abilities and abnormalities in appearance – approximately 1 out of every 1,000, just as it was for the number of people changing. Some people didn't change until they were older. These people with abilities became known as “Changelings.”
This event, usually only called “28-61" resulted in some major changes over a short period of time. Factions emerged – one, the Collective Changeling Primacy, called “Primacy” for short, is a nation that started after America splintered into factions in February 1964 due to issues surrounding views of Changelings. The Primacy is a group calling for the coexistence of Changelings and normal humans – sometimes called “norms”. Its origin is Arizona, but it has spread to peacefully collect some western and southern areas of the US, along with northern parts of Mexico. What was left into the U.S. devolved into an oligarchy that was known as the Fellowship. This society is highly commercialized and seeks to use the majority of Changelings for military purposes. There are a few other factions on the rise, as well, such as some who support Changelings having complete power, but these are rather disorganized, and there are so many different groups that focus on this main idea that they spend more time warring with each other.
Adding to the two primary warring factions, there is also an issue with the wildlife; it appears that animals can also become “Changelings,” as well, and change in form. As a result, some attacks have risen, as those who hunt come in contact with such creatures who they try to kill for hunting purposes, only to have the animals fight back after surviving a gunshot.
“Curse marks” have arisen. This is an unnatural process by which some people are trying to force themselves to become Changelings. It is done when they transfer Changeling blood to themselves. The process results in death the majority of the time, but on rare occasions the transference is successful and the person survives, gaining the Changeling’s abilities. This comes with some major consequences, however, and if anyone wants to have a Cursed Changeling they will need to pm me for information on these consequences. Only a select few Cursed Changelings will be accepted.
