Graded [Carbon Town] Ryke Adventurers Guild - Dirty Work

Shere
Character Grade F - [Martial Artist]
"It will be alright now." Shere peeked his head inside as he spoke, more to the kidnapped girls than to Sasha. He took a good look at the three, trying to ascertain their condition as best he could, and he flashed a winning smile and then it was back to business. He seemed to be mostly ignoring Carter even as he turned to face him, and if he hadn't given Stella a nod you'd think he was ignoring her too. His gaze traced a line between the bandit leader and himself, measuring the distance, he tapped toe and heel on the floor to test his footing. "Me? I am just a pugilist passing through, and you should be throwing in the towel."

Shere knew that it was unlikely for this person to surrender and so acted in concert with Stella, an honorable duel this was not after all. As the machine girl began her approach so did he, towards the corner of the building standing between him and Carter. Why the corner? Because it blocked the direct angle of attack from the bandit's right arm, the sword arm that he would be leading with, while Shere's own right was free to attack. He didn't use his hand, however. The dandy stepped into range, planted his left foot and for the briefest of moments his whole body rested atop his toes like a dancer en pointe.

On his tiptoes Shere pivoted and in that rotation of his entire body he launched his right leg around the corner, a scything kick aimed at the body to crush ribs or the arm or both, to sandwich Carter between shin and wall and leave him open for Stella's charge. But rather than press the attack or stand there admiring his work, the very moment both feet were once again under him he leapt backwards in continuous, fluid motion, so that within the blink of an eye he was once again standing with his back to Sasha and the hostages. It was as though he were guarding the door, and as though he had never left.

“Thank you, Miss Morrigan.” Jack responded softly to the praise, smiling up at the woman before putting the ring in his satchel. He walked around, looking in some of the other crates for any goodies, trying to ignore the rest of his group harming and threatening the last of the bandits.

Subtly walking into a corner, Jack covered his ears, trying not to cry. He was stronger than this, he couldn’t be helpless his whole life. He glances over to see one of the bodies and lets out a small yelp. The adrenaline from finding the item he needed was wearing off quickly as he began to panic. Shutting his eyes tight, he stood there still and tried to wait for it all to blow over.

Then he heard John and froze. Jack slowly turned around, assessing the situation visually. He wasn’t really going to kill him was he? He wasn’t a threat anymore. It was probably just a bluff, Jack reasoned with himself. Except it really didn’t look like one. His fur covered legs began shaking as his fingers uncomfortably grabbed the hem of his sweater. Gritting his teeth, he willed his legs to move and before he knew it he was standing in between John and the bandit with his arms spread in a defensive position.

Jack was shaking with fear, but held his ground. “Y-You c-can’t do that!” He stutters out while trying to assert himself. “He-He might be a bad guy b-but we can’t just kill people who aren’t an immediate threat anymore! How does that make us any better? He’ll be put away for a long time and he won’t be able to hurt anybody.” He says, his voice getting more clear and confident as he spoke. He was still terrified of John, honestly, and probably couldn’t do anything if they genuinely wanted to kill the bandit–But he wouldn’t be able to live himself if he didn’t try.

Darin

As the adrenaline from combat subsided, Darin slightly slumped against the door he was leaning on, pressing a hand on where the bandit's fist had impacted. That was certain to be sore for a long while, though it could have been far worse, and it seemed that none of his allies had sustained any injuries.

When John bluntly expressed his intentions to execute their prisoner, Darin stood straight again, giving a raised eyebrow -though without the brow- towards the boy. He was about to speak, before Jack moved in and objected the action. Waiting for Jack to finish, Darin spoke from his side of the room. "I for one would much prefer to simply hand him over to the guards, this scene is already messy as is." He said while waving his left hand in a dismissive manner, before closing his eyes with a brief sigh. Turning around and opening the door next to him, Darin looked back at the rest of them. "Now if you'll excuse me, I believe it is about time that someone actually fetched the guards, yes? Whether or not they get a prisoner to interrogate is up to all of you." With that comment, he stepped through the door.

Ryan Kylieth

Ryan smiled awkardly, nervous of the thought of being on the receiving end of that punch. This was starting to become a bit much... He needed the reward to get the mithril necessary for his personal project, yes. But he missed Stonewall, its people, an even more so. Aileen. He should prepare something for her when they meet again. Ryan got lost in his thoughts of his adorable girlfriend, until a ruckus began, that is.

Loud words echoed within the cave, and his tremorsense gave him insight on how things were unfolding on the other side of the wall. Shere and Stella went to engage in combat. Seeing as even with his good eyes, there was a risk of friendly fire.

Instead, he opted to aim at the door where the last two goons were behind after taking a good spot to see the action unfold.

Actions

1. Move behind Stella to the action, staying a few feet behind
2. Aim at the door with the two goons behind it

Conclusion

With both Shere and Stella focusing their attention on Carter, Delta was able to act without giving all too much away. Using her razor wire's fluid and unpredictable nature to her advantage alongside her concealment skill, Delta would deliver a blow to Carter alongside the duo. An attack all but invisible to the general eye. With their attacks combined the Group would inflict a near-fatal wound.

Shere and Co vs Carter
Str E + 1 + 1 = 4 Base CE + 1 from blight = 5 FCE x2 from targeted = 10 + 2 from teamup = 12

? + ? + ? = 9 Defence

12 vs 9 = 3 non-lethal damage to Carter, Hot shot was canceled due to the power gap.

Result: Carter is knocked unconscious

Falling to his knees and then subsequently face down, the mighty Carter was felled in one fell swoop. Though unfortunately for Delta he was still left breathing thanks to Shere's careful and skilled attacks. Indeed the group had triumphed, they had secured the missing women and captured the bandit chief. Not to mention a whole consort of his gang members. With two remaining but firmly stuck within the confines of a building the group had accomplished their goal. It was time to return to town and have the guards deal with the rest.

Delta was the first to depart, making her way back to the town to both inform and gather the guards necessary to imprison and move those bandits left unconscious in the cave. It wouldn't take her long to return but under the watchful eye of Shere, Stella, and Ryan, no bandits managed to make a grand escape in the meantime. Once everyone had been gathered and the women thoroughly inspected, the group would begin the slow march back to town for the final time.

Likewise for the Town Team, it wouldn't take long for the guards to arrive at the tavern thanks to Darrin's actions. Granted there were far fewer bandits remaining for the guards to take into custody on their end but nonetheless they would do so with the lone survivor. Likely to Jack's delight. After an exchange of a few pleasantries and an initial check of those goods found the Guards would send the Town team to the town Barracks where they would reunite with the Cave team. Jack's ring managing to slip by detection as well.

With the group assembled in the Barracks meeting room, it wouldn't take long before the Captain herself arrived to handle their debriefing. The captain was surprisingly young but even an untrained eye could tell she was at least as strong if not stronger than Carter at the very least. Though no one present would have the skills necessary to decern the specifics. That being said she seemed to be in quite a good mood judging by the subtle smile she held and the peppy stride she kept.

Moving to the head of the table the woman would take a seat and after a brief pause would address those gathered.

"Sasha Leonard, ST3 - LL4, Darin, Rios, Shere, John Doe, Jack Hayfield, Ryan Kylieth, and the strange one known as simply 'Morrigan'. You have my thanks.". Looking at each member one by one the woman would nod to herself "What you've accomplished here today was nothing short of a righteous and heroic act. You have eradicated a source of evil that has long plagued this town when we the guards could not. You should all be proud of what you've done here today. Hmu hmu!"

Moving to a stand the woman signaled toward the door "We have taken all those bandits you captured into custody. They will be questioned in good time. But this is where your job ends and ours begins. I have passed on my recommendations to the adventurers guild in relation to rewards. Thank you once again for your aid in this matter. With that, I bid you farewell. Should you ever need help feel free to ask for me by name. Captain Eliza Dragoncrest."

With the very short conversation, or rather speech, out of the way the group was escorted out of the barracks once again, and with that their quest was complete. Each free to go about their own business. Though with no adventurers guild building in the town, they would need to travel elsewhere to claim their reward.

Though short and somewhat anticlimactic. Our hero's journey in Carbon had come to an end. Each and every member had done good in this town but would the town remember them and their actions in the future? Well, that would depend on where they went and if they were worth remembering. A humble start for many, a stepping stone to greatness though? Well, who knows.

With night creeping in slowly, Delta would return to the inn and book herself a room. Her job here was not yet finished after all. Thanks to Shere, Delta's work here had become far more difficult and risky. Though this time around she could not afford to fail. Spending the early hours of the night preparing her gear, Delta devised a plan to eliminate Carter once and for all. Then, in the depths of the night, she sprang into action.

Using her Stealth and concealment skills Delta was quick to infiltrate the barracks and more so the prison there under. Though difficult and having had a few close calls, she succeded in making her way to Carter's cell secretly and without too much delay.

Cutting the steel lock easily with her Mytril razor wire, Delta quietly snuck up on the sleeping man and with one swift flick of her wrist, slit the man's throat. Watching over his body until she was certain he had been slain, Delta confirmed the kill by severing his head thereafter. Stashing it in a leather satchel Delta would quickly retreat from the cell and venture out into the forest where she would secure the head within a dead drop, completing her mission.

Returning to her room then, Delta would flop onto her bed and quickly fall asleep. Completely exhausted and drained after everything that had transpired during the day.

1690244997450.png

Deep in her sleep, a sudden sound would ring out within her dreamscape, causing all else to fade away. Emerging instead was a sudden and unignorable notice sign.

" Notice: By the Authority of Delilah, 'Delta' has been bestowed with 'Meta Knowledge'. "

" Notice: Being 'Delta' will now be able to make use of the 'Notice System' and 'Player Menu'. "

'Delta'

After a full day had passed Delta finally awoke from her bizarre dream only to find she had been completely transformed, "Eh? Eh? EHHHHHH? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?"

And thus a new Villain was officially born.

Shere
Character Grade F - [Martial Artist]
Shere got more involved than any contract stipulation called for. He helped round up the bodies, still living or otherwise, he gave Carter's room a quick if ultimately ineffectual check, when the guards arrived they found him keeping the hostages company. As the whole party made its way to town and the bandits were dragged off in bondage he gave them the oddest of looks. The naked contempt was clear, but he hurled no further abuse their way, instead he looked at the whole proceeding with pity. Pity that people would resort to doing any of this to someone else, he thought not for the first time.

Come next morning Shere was going to have a fair bit to think about, should word of the bandit leader's untimely, unlawful, but not unwarranted execution spread. Given people will talk about a prisoner experimenting with self-induced shortness of breath, so to speak, a case of someone misplacing their own head is likely to fire up the rumor mill. Not that he'd be heartbroken about the man, but the questions and his inability to answer them. Who was after Carter, why, what did they have to do with the gang's sudden escalation, were they involved with the Adventurer's Guild, and so on.

There were greater things at play that his limitations did not let him see, as a perfectionist that was going to bother him. But it was still a good deed done, and that morning had yet to come, and Shere was a lone traveler with nowhere to be but then and there. So for the official meeting with the young captain of the guard he'd found the time to clean away the sweat and dirt of the fight, to make himself presentable, that his smooth skin and silken hair and stark white clothes might seem to glow under the lamplight, and he offered her a deep bow that said "here at your service".

Carbon was in festive spirits, daughters and sisters returned mattering far more than the late hour, and Shere rolled his own personal little celebration between his fingers. He played with the long, thin cigar that he favored, savoring the scents, the moment of happiness he'd helped make, walking along aimlessly and unrecognized. A pass near a torch and the dandy made his way back to the Boar's Hoof Inn in a trail of smoke and ember. The Adventurer's Guild had footed the bill for the whole place, after all, and there was someone there that seemed glad to lay eyes him...despite her father's protests.

Save some missing folk. Wipe out some bandit sorts. Sounds good in theory. Feels like the divide and conquer approach left some things undone though. Get some hands on with the system is always good. Hopeful this first rp has inspired more. Perhaps a clean up job or another direction entirely.
