Fantasy Breakfast Quest

Dustin The Wind

So I've had this idea for a silly little RP for a while and I wanted to gauge interest in the concept. (and I swear, I came up with this idea long before I had ever heard of Food Fight.)

The basic concept is a usual, DnD-inspired, lighthearted fantasy romp. Fight the monsters, save the kingdom, that kind of thing. The kicker is that everyone plays as breakfast cereal mascots. Tony, the paladin who wanders the land to help those in need. Sam, the keen-nosed ranger, protector of the forests. Trix, the talented yet desperate thief and master of disguise. Basically, you take a character off a cereal box and decide how they would work in a fantasy world.

I fully endorse this, though I am rather too occupied to join in. I assume this would be under the Simple tag? Pure fun?

Also, I move that the Big Bad be Count Chocula.

I'm still familiarizing myself with the nuances of the site, but I think so. Simple fun with the possibility of becoming deeper, but certainly never too serious.

And I was actually planning on him being the main antagonist, yes. Good call!

Are you familiar with Dungeon World? Assuming the DnD-lite angle goes beyond riffing on the tropes.

Can't say that I am. A quick google search seems to show it as a tabletop RP system. Am I looking at the right one?

Yep. Light, flavoursome, would recommend for circumstances like these - if you happen to want one. If this is pure freeform just ignore me.

To be honest, I haven't quite settled on whether this should be diceless or not. I'll look into the system, see if it works for this.

I'd recommend dice, honestly. I just feel weird about Adventure-y type stuff without some sort of objective system to determine successes and failures.

If it's a 'game' then dice or a play-by-post moderator would probably be needed for realism checks... Although, if it's just people telling story's; then dice would be silly. I'm totally loving this idea btw.

I'm leaning at the moment toward mostly text-based, with a light dice element for whenever we need dramatic uncertainty. Still checking out that Dungeon World thing of Grey's, though. If the consensus is that dice are needed for the game, I'll likely go with that

^ This pic alone is inspiration for what would come of this RP. Epic.

Great, looks like there's sufficient interest! I suppose the next thing to do is to have people claim their characters so I can start tailoring the story toward their literary needs. Go ahead and post who you're playing and how you'll adapt them to the world.

(Or is this supposed to go into a separate Characters thread? Still learning the local nuances here.)

Sorry for my absence these past few days. There was a death in the family and I've been busy with things, largely stemming from it. I'm going to have to shelve this for now and come back later when I don't have so much on my plate.
