It’s pure humiliation. Once the warden arrives he’ll give some crude remarks about them all and throw them to the dogs afterwards to see who’ll survive and who’ll be the next to join the mass grave on the planet.

That and posing an initial conflict for them to face. Not only is there no way out but they’re surrounded by people who’d want to murder them or worse.

It’s kind of giving them a reason to work together.

By the way guys, if you ever have thoughts on things I could do to improve my writing or anything really, please tell me and Ill absolutely love you until the day I die.

I always worry that I am making my sentences too convoluted or just confusing.

I think you're doing good. Though if I could offer any advince, maybe make your posts more detailed? A good way to do that is to describe the scene with your character's other five senses than just sight.

Maybe watch some random episodes of Dark Matter for random ideas just cause that show shares some of what might be happening with our crew. To an extent anyway. But otherwise we should be good. Since we are just starting.
