This is the lore thread. Feel free to add lore on your characters' species and related backstory details (though for obvious reasons its best to avoid contradicting each other. Don't worry, I'll keep a lookout)

Hailing from Earth, humans are one of, if not the, fastest growing species in the history of the galaxy. In the 30 year timespan between when they built their first Hypergate (a feat that most species can't achieve without outside assistance) they have spread all throughout the galaxy. There's probably not a place in the galaxy you won't find humans. To many, they are known as the "Fuck you" species who will do anything just to prove they can.

Of course, due to their prevalence humans are pretty eager to join in Galactic politics. While they don't have a seat on the galactic council yet they seem to be on their way to break that record too.

Hailing from the planet Vulpes (because Fox puns), the Kitsune are a race of fox-like aliens who have an affinity for magic. They tend to be a very introverted people and lack a seat on the Galactic Council. At 18, every Kitsune goes through a coming of age ceremony that grants them an alternate illusionary form they can take on should they so desire.

When Kitsune do leave the planet it's usually to go to Magic Schools of some form or other. While Kitsune don't have a seat on the council they are still one of the most important races in the Galaxy as they turn out the most mages.

Creating AI is illegal. Like, super illegal. Like, destroy your ship, purge your best friend's memory drive, and throw you in prison for life (if you're lucky) or just straight up kill you (if you're unlucky) illegal. So of course people do it all the time. Usually AI is created by combining tech with magic. The brain is powered by electricity so if you get enough of that together and figure out how to give it a spark of life (a very nebulous concept) you've got an AI.

There's also VI (what, Mass Effect doesn't have a copyright on the term... do they?) which are just really advanced Siri. They are not sentient. Do yourself a favor and try not to get to attached to them.

Magic is, well, complicated. So to keep things simple here's some hard rules:

  • Something cannot be created out of nothing.
  • Creating life wholesale is impossible (you can put together something that looks like a person but you can't make it a person).
  • Raising the dead is also impossible (though what counts as dead is debatable and this rule has seemingly been broken by science before).

Here's some soft rules that are possible but will get you thrown in jail:

  • No creating AI (so of course people do).
  • No uplifting animals to be on the same intelligent level as sentient species (so of course people do).
  • No fucking around with anti-matter (this is just common sense).

A magic academy dedicated to teaching all sorts of different kinds of magic. Its home to the top mages, scientists, and scientist mages in the business and also home to many dark secrets. A lot of illegal stuff goes on under the table. So now you know where Vixen and Darkness come from.

The illegal experiments that were performed on Eddie Gears and the unknown number of innocents is highly classified. Eddie’s research and expertise is the only resource but it is not confirmed.

Research has proven most subjects were taken from orphanages. But few possessing a special genetic code had staged accidents resulting in the guardians death and organizations retrieval. The experiments where varied but most where painful.

Test subjects were all at least 75% human but after Eddie’s purge on many of their sites activity has been low.
