usually how I go about it is first I decide on an idea of the character behvaior to certain circumstances, I work out the traits I prefer from that, and lastly I write the personality around that. A bit of a advice that I think a lot of people could have used: Don't try to make your character a war-machine. In many cases, losing and being limited is what will make you shine. Having a character that is well-rounded and unique is more inportant than a character that is strong, especially in this roleplay whose mechanics and plot construction are all centered around the weaknesses and flaws of the characters. In many cases, losing will be winning.
