spencer had to grow up at a very young age. she has had to care for not only herself, but her younger sister as well from the moment she was able to. she is very protective over her and that spills onto the other people she cares about also. she works hard, especially for someone her age. she has a good head on her shoulders and knows what to prioritize in her life. taking care of everyone and everything is what she feels like is her responsibility, putting others needs before her own.

on the other side, spencer does not trust very easily. she is very guarded and private, especially when it comes to her own feelings. she is judgmental, carefully assessing who she deems worthy of her trust. she can get aggressive when she feels threatened or feels like her sister is being threatened. she wouldn’t hesitate to lie or deceive someone to accomplish her own girls. it’s a dog eat dog world and she’d stop at nothing to have a better life for her and her sister than the one they grew up with.

history

spencer was born and raised in a poor area of liverpool, england. she was the first of two children born to a drug addicted mother. she was not born out of love, but she was the product of an affair her biological father was having. she remembers very little from before her sister was born, but it was likely not a loving or caring time much like how it felt after her sister was born.

her sister was the best thing to happen to her. from day one, even at her young age, spencer knew she had to take care of her sister. it’s not like their mother would be. she was too busy getting high, fighting with whatever boyfriend she had at the time, or working. the children were often left in their tiny flat on their own.

their childhood was tumultuous. their mother’s revolving door of boyfriends brought in plenty of unsavory characters. though there are one or two decent ones. in fact, that’s how spencer was introduced to music. gifted an old guitar and an old ipod in an attempt to win her trust, spencer fell in love. while that boyfriend was gone rather quickly, that love of music remained in spencer.

that old ipod was used to drown out the shouting that often occurred outside the girls’ bedroom door. huddled together in the same bed, spencer always made sure her sister felt safe and protected. this was something she committed herself to. she would get into physical and verbal fights with both the grown men her mother brought home and the kids who would pick on her.

spencer wanted to escape the life she and her sister had. she worked tirelessly to earn top marks in school to get into a good university. the problem was she could not afford her supplies or her housing fees. determined to secure this opportunity, spencer tracked down her biological father and threatened to tell his wife and children about her existence if he did not pay for her and her sister’s schooling.

the university of lioncourt was spencer’s ticket out. she decided to double major in classical studies and music production. she couldn’t decide between her two interests and decided to pursue both. to make the most out of her education. now in her final year and joined by her sister, spencer is ready to finish up her education.

these sisters are as thick as thieves. spencer would do anything to make sure her sister is happy and safe, even if it is a detriment to her. she's the only one who spencer opens up to completely. they are technically half siblings, but spencer refuses to specify. to her, it doesn't matter that they don't have the same father. it's not like either of them were around anyway.

jude is your friendly neighborhood tomboy. she was a rough-and-tumble kid who couldn't get enough of the outdoors, and she never quite grew out of it. even now that she's a college student, she'll still jump at the chance to climb a tree or roll down a grassy hill. actually, in most aspects, she hasn't changed much since childhood--she has the attention span of a toddler and can't sit still to save her life, she'd rather eat candy for dinner than anything substantial, and her clothes are always covered in something, whether it be dried clay or grass stains. if anything about her is different at all, she might've gotten a little more realistic in regards to her outlook on life. she didn't necessarily get more negative per say--she's not a glass half-empty person, but she's not a glass half-full person, either; it really depends on how thirsty she is--but she's learned not to expect too much and to take things as they are. she's more easygoing now and is more open to new experiences. if something doesn't go according to plan, so what? she'll find another way to fill her time.

understanding people has never been one of jude's strong suits. plants and animals are more her speed, but people are much too complex. in just about every friend group that jude is a part of, she's the dad friend, which is similar to the mom friend but much less useful. she tries her best to offer advice and support to her friends and to be there when they need her, but because she has trouble relating to others, she's not very good at either of those things. any attempt to console someone only makes her uncomfortable, and jude deals with awkward situations with humor to attempt to diffuse the tension. she may not be the best hugger out there, but she can make you laugh any day. telling jokes is one of the few things that does come naturally to her; sometimes, she takes it too far and can't remember how to take things seriously. almost everything that comes out of her mouth is some form of sarcasm, and she sometimes needs someone to reel her back in.

jude's clear lack of social skills makes things like forming relationships a bit difficult, which is unfortunate for the hopeless romantic side of her. she falls in love at least five times a day with strangers she passes that she'll never see again, but she would never do anything about a crush. she's no good at flirting--her idea of a pickup line would be a playful insult--and she'd be too scared to even try for fear of scaring them away. because of this, she often friend-zones herself before they can, but being friends with pretty people is better than nothing at all; at least, that's what she tells herself to help her sleep at night.

where jude lacks in people skills, though, she more than makes up for in spunk. she loves a good adventure just as much as the next person. she's a bit of a thrill-seeker. if something sounds dangerously exciting, you can bet that jude will try it. there's not much that she won't try at least once, just for bragging rights. she takes dares very seriously and would rather die than turn down a challenge. call her stupid and immature all you want--she's having fun, and, in the end, that's all that really matters to her.

"like i said, this place is weird. this school is like something out of a nancy drew book--in a way, it only makes sense that a few kids have gone missing. i mean, it sucks, but around here, it's not that off the wall. the really freaky part is the way that no one remembers them, not even their parents. trust me, my mom would know if i was gone. it'd be too damn peaceful."

do you think you'll solve the mystery?

"not by myself. if i did, it'd be an accident. i might sit on some button and reveal a trap door where all of the missing kids are, like some real scooby doo shit."

why did you join the literature club?

"you know what? i ask myself that same question every day. i'm dyslexic, dude--i can't even fucking read. it was probably one of those things i did when i was really bored. i mean, i like the idea of books, though, and it's been pretty fun so far, so it's cool."

history

when jude was seven years old, her father abandoned her and her mother. to say that that turned their world upside down would be an understatement. up until then, jude had been a carefree kid--she didn't know what it was like to be burdened with anger and guilt. while her mother tried to fill the hole that jude's dad had left and give jude a normal childhood, she never quite recovered. she was left with the sinking feeling of not being good enough, something that has stuck with her through the years. from then on, each time she made a bad grade or got into trouble at school, it was like she could see her father in the corner of the room, looking at her with such a deep-rooted disappointment in his eyes that it pushed jude to try harder. she was still hyperactive and had trouble focusing on schoolwork, but gradually, her grades began to improve.

this carried on into high school, hence her acceptance into the university of lioncourt. she was smart when she really applied herself, and though it was hard, it paid off in the long run. despite it being the haunting memory of her dad that had driven her to do better for the sake of getting rid of him, she wanted to make her mother proud more than anything else, and she did just that. although maggie hated to see jude go, she was glad that her daughter had made something of herself because, let's be honest, she'd had her secret doubts for a while. who could blame her? jude was too busy making mud pies for the first eleven years of her life to do anything really productive. jude came around, though, and before they knew it, it was time for her to leave home.

lioncourt was strange, to say the least. it didn't take long for jude to catch on to the weird feelings that the university produced, such as the nonexistence of time. jude may be on her third year at the school now, but nothing has changed since the first, and if she didn't know any better, she'd say that she was still a freshman. she can only hope that these next couple of years pass faster than the first two and that they treat her well.

family

maggie monroe - to jude, this is the only parent that matters. in a way, her mom is like her best friend. the two have been there for each other through thick and thin. maggie understands jude in a way that no one else will never be able to, and for that, jude is forever grateful. she can be her true, awkward self and not have to worry about the whether or not her mom will like her.
vincent monroe - jude's dad left when she was a little kid, so she's always had this sort of guilt hanging over here. was she really not good enough to deserve a dad? what did she do to make him want to run away? these doubts manifest in the form of a hatred toward the man who abandoned her and her mom, and rightfully so.

Personality | If there’s one word that people often choose to describe Emmanual it would be magnetic. He has this aura, this swagger that surrounds him that draws people in. His pearly white smile and penchant for smooth talk helps him talk his way out of most situations. Emmanual is a silver tongued devil with the looks of an angel, and he shamelessly uses it to his advantage. He has a way of twisting his words, wielding his ability to speak in half truths with ease. The feeling that comes with seducing people with his words alone is one that he enjoys immensely and thus he does it even without meaning to. Emmanual is definitely a flirt, he enjoys meaningless and uncomplicated flings with others.

Emmanuel is adaptable and versatile, be it dealing with situations or individuals. While he does enjoy his alone time he’s by no means an introvert. — HISTORY.

Emmanual hails from Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Born into a lower class family it seemed like he was set up to fail from the very beginning yet it only made him hunger for a better life for himself and his loved ones. A life where he didn't need to worry about where their next meal would come from or how the rent would be paid. His mother Lovelie worked herself to exhaustion in order to provide for them, missing meals so that her son would not go to bed hungry. She only had the help of her own parents and a sister that moved away the first chance she got.

Like any young person Emmanual often took what he had for granted. Instead of studying as he should he would go off to play with his friends, ignoring how his mother repeatedly told him the importance of education. Emmanuel was an angry child, an envious boy who hated the fact that they were poor. That his mother had to work herself half to death, only to barely scrape by. Emmanual’s only solace was in the books he read, he would immerse himself into the worlds and dream that he was the main character who solved all the mysteries and slayed all the monsters.

But no matter how much he tried to shut out the world around him, he was still reminded of his reality. And so he began to steal, to fight for money and fall into the wrong crowd at a young age in hopes of bettering their situation. He knew that his choices broke his family’s heart yet how could they not see that he was doing it all for them? He continued to spiral down that path while his family prayed to their ancestors to watch over him, to make him see the error of his ways before it was too late.

Emmanual remembered the day his life had flashed before his eyes. His home, no, the entire world had shook as if some petro lwa had come to punish them. And has everything collapsed and he was stuck within the rubble for what felt like years, Emmanual could have sworn that his grann had been there with him, speaking to him that oh so stern tone of hers, letting him know that if he didn’t change now he would never change things for his family. Emmanual could remember clawing as something bloomed inside of him. And when he reached the other side, reunited with his mother, he felt reborn.

To his devastation he grann had not survived, crushed beneath the rubble of her home with her husband. And when his aunt learned of this, she had taken them in to live with her in England. Just as her nephew, she wished to become something in order to help her family. And so she worked and fought to attend business school and become a successful jewelry designer. From then on Emmanuel’s life was changed and he blossomed in turn. Adjusting was hard but he thrived, he excelled in school and it was there he learned that his memory and ability to catch on was something extraordinary.

Emmanual graduated at the top of his class and when he was accepted into the top college in the area, his family was amazed and supportive.

LOVELIE BEAUVAIS | 39 |MOTHER Lou’s biggest supporter and the number one woman in his life. The two of them are extremely close and there isn’t anything that they wouldn’t do for each other. history | Persephone's life could have gone down a lot of awful roads from the time she was born, but she ultimately considers herself very blessed. Persephone was raised in a well-off family in Thurso, Scotland. There is little to no information about Persephone Finch's earliest years. She was adopted through the church as a toddler by an older couple, Lorne and Narine Finch. It was a closed adoption, and the only thing she knows about her biological parents is their medical history. From what she's learned from her mom and dad, her birth parents were young and reckless, and they were deemed to be unfit parents. Persephone never held that against them, but she sometimes lets herself wonder what they could be like now. Persephone was not the first, nor the last child to be welcomed into the Finch's home. Lorne and Narine never had any of their own biological children, they never wanted any. Lorne himself had been adopted as a child and he knew that if he were to start his own family one day, he would do the same. Narine proudly boasts that she's the mother of 17 and she's always expecting.

Growing up in the Finch household was like how one might expect; it was always loud, chaotic, a bit messy, and overflowing with love. While most of Persephone's adoptive siblings are quite a bit older than her, she grew up with 6 other kids in the house. She was by far closest with her older sister, Maggie. Maggie is four years older than Persephone. Persephone idolized her growing up. Her cool big sister. Everything Maggie did, Persephone just had to do too. It was because of her that Persephone learned how to play the violin. Despite Persy's perception, Maggie was not perfect. She struggled a lot academically and fell in with some kids who were a bit rough. Maggie became heavily involved with drugs when she was in high school, which ultimately lead to her overdosing her freshman year of college.

The grieving process was a long and difficult one for Persy. The most important figure in her life had been taken away from her. Even though they had lost their daughter, Persy's parents put on a strong showing for their remaining children and did their best to try and keep life going as usual. Despite the fact her family had been pulled so close together due to their shared loss, Persephone still never felt so alone. She withdrew from music lessons, her grades slipped, she left her room less and less. It all seemed so pointless. She threw herself into books, fiction, to keep herself as distracted as possible. It was these self-contained worlds where she found comfort. She'd read books about the loss of a sibling, she'd take notes on how to protagonist coped with such a deep hurt. Over time, she began to heal. She began to focus more on school, fixing her grades, rebuilding her friendships that she had let fall by the wayside. After a long time, she resumed violin lessons, with Maggie's old violin as a way of keeping her sister close.

The feeling of being trapped in the husk of a human shell has haunted her since her youth and such awareness of herself and that of the tendencies of others, came with her personality to be labeled as too lacking in emotion or perturbingly observant. Upon gazing at her surface, Silver seems to be the quiet, innocent type of girl but if you offer her more than a glance she gives off a rather brooding—almost intimidating—aura. Her disposition is rather reserved, her words coming off as cold or blunt to most but in warming up to someone they may be able to see past her rougher exterior to find a more amusing person. Should she grow closer to others, she's the type to go out of her way to ensure their well-being as well as protect them in times of need without regard for the consequences she may acquire. No matter the happy situation though, there is always a constant darkness brewing in her as she struggles to find the real balance between humanity and what she feels she really is.

Silver appears to be a young woman often mistaken for someone that is still in high school or their earlier stages of college. She has a head of dark brown hair, nearly black eyes and lightly tanned skin laden with scars if one were to look closely enough. The most obvious scars are the one on her right hand in the form of a dog bite, slash-like ones along her backside and a few on her chest and knees. She tends to stick to dark or neutral colored articles of clothing, covering up her body often enough in sweaters or her favorite lightweight trench coat enough that most don't realize she is of a mostly petite stature with lean muscle concealing her inner strength while also standing at a height of 5'5".

history : Silver grew up in Boca Raton, Florida with her mother, father and sibling whom is ten years older than her. Despite the gap in age from them all, she learned early on that she would have to become the adult of the family when it came to situations that required a breather between several screaming parties. Her childhood was more so an experience to grow off of rather than one full of the stereotypical cheery faces on their way to the local Disney World. Her father's vice-grip on her life tossed her into a constant state of emotional and sometimes physical turmoil as bad grades to talking with even the slightest tinge of irritation in her voice would lead to automatic beatings or his thunderous ranting about how awful of a child she was and how he wished she had been born a boy or not at all. Her mother and sister could only ever watch whenever his tantrums came about, only coming in to help after the red haze had passed, but by the time they'd grown a pair or two, Silver had essentially become an entirely different person. Her disposition stems from the battering she received both at home and whenever bullies arose in school, feeding into an eventual depression that nearly consumed her at one point when the rare trust she offered to those that were close to her was tossed away like a plaything--crushing her further than her father already had when she made the mistake of leaning on others. With no support nor anyone she could trust any longer, she lost her faith in humanity as well as the ability to feel genuine emotions for others after having to hide both the positive ones and the ones that ate her alive from her family. The only way to separate herself from the source of her constant state of inner turmoil was through school. The grades came and went, as did the memories she should've remembered even during the good times, but alas, her mind had steadily chipped away as she reverted into something closer to that of beasts. Not easily phased, bearing mostly no regard for her own life, she applied to the University of Lioncourt when a study abroad scholarship was mentioned at her first college. Much to her family's dismay, she was accepted and they made haste to keep her shackled but with their words going in one ear and out the other, she turned her back on them without so much as a hint of hesitation in her stride. Since then, she's made few efforts to befriend others, choosing rather to avoid them and explore her newly found freedom instead by what the school offered as well as the surrounding areas. The past handful of years that she'd wasted at her first college had simply been an excuse to not be home more than a reason to motivate her to engage in an actual major. Now that she resides at Lioncourt, a small spark of desire to continue living to see what the rest of the world has to offer is one of the few tethers allowing her to function and thus choose to major in the arts with a minor in music to challenge herself further in an attempt to start living a real life.

Eirene Blackwood - Her mother worries for her knowing she's on the other side of the world, but deep down both her and Silver know that she's better off being further from home, away from her father. She wishes for her to come visit as she states on the occasional phone call Silver does when she wonders about their well-being. Eirene knows how particularly special Silver is to her husband due to the fact that his father died just before the time she was born. She can only hope that someday her husband will get it through his thick skull that continuing as he is will only fester the wounds he's opened.
Mikhail Blackwood - Wishing for their relationship to not fizzle out entirely, at times her mother does have her and her father speak but the conversation normally spirals from how she's doing to why she betrayed them all for leaving as well as why she won't return home sooner. Normally Silver hangs up when his rants begin bleeding through the phone. Silver does remember a time when he wasn't so manipulative and aggressive, but his tantrums outweigh the sometimes philosophical things that comes out of his mouth.
Kahili Blackwood - Her sister is probably the only one she keeps in the most contact with albeit through mostly text and Kahili attempting to share relatable posts with Silver in order to entice conversation out of it. Silver knows she can never hate her family, especially not her mother, but there are times when she sees the parallels between her father and Kahili which makes it harder for her to have real dialogue with her.

Of course. As a kid, one of the few things I remembered enjoying were documentaries on cryptids and the like. Every supernatural creature or folk tale has to pertain from somewhere.

It's normal for college students to run off somewhere, whether they elope from home or school, get into trouble, or simply die. It is what it is. Although... this place carries a certain aura and perhaps it has something to do with that.

"do you think solve the mystery?"
Maybe. If I put my mind to it, there's a possibility, but I'm sure mysteries are better suited to be solved by more interesting and involved individuals.

"why did you join the literature club?"
It's a requirement to be in extracurriculars here, so unfortunately I had to sign up. The good thing at least is I can get back into reading and train my brain to focus on shit and imagine again.
