Realistic or Modern Better Off Dead

Erin slowly walked down the streets of New York. Just a few weeks ago this city was booming. Well, it still is, but it's with the walking dead.

Erin held her hand gun, watching in every direction around her. She heard the moans of a swarm approaching so she bolted down a back alley and climbed the ladder that led onto a flower shop.

"Shit shit." She whispered to herself when she saw a live boy not too far from the swarm.

Erin searched around for something she could warn him with, a rock will do. Erin grabed the perfect sized rock, not too small and light enough so it wont hurt him.

She readied her aim and threw the rock as fsr as she could. Luckily it hit his shoulder with a soft thud and fell to the ground. Then she started to signal him that there were walkers ahead.

Elizabeth ran towards the roof where her brother was waiting for her. A large herd was following her and Elizabeth was trying to loose them but New York was filled with walkers. She finally arrived to the music store. She entered the alley were the stairs were located. She found a lonely walker waiting for her in the ally. She took out her machete and decapitated it. She quickly climbed up the stairs and saw her brother at the edge of the roof looking at the large herd of walkers. He turned his head and saw Elizabeth, he hugged her and asked her to look at the herd with him.

"They are too many"

"I know, I barely made it out alive"

"Did you find anything?"

"I found some bandages and jerky"

"Cool, I saw some other survivors walking through the streets today, they didnt see me though"

"Thats... cool I guess. "

"Wanna play catch?"

"Sure, why not?"

Elizabeth and Brian grabbed the baseball ball and started to play and laugh

Zack had just finished looting a music store. There wasn't much he found, some crisps and a cell phone. He took the cell phone because there might be media, saying if there was any survivors in the city. Zack wasn't worried that he didn't find much, as he had a head start because he saw the first infected one, and he started packing up things before all hell broke loose.

He left the shop and examined his surroundings. He had already taken out his axe, so he was prepared. All of a sudden, He felt something hard hitting his shoulder. He rubbed it, and looked in the direction it came from and saw a supposedly 'live' girl, pointing her hand in his opposite direction. His sight was...sickening. He saw a horde of walkers coming his way. Luckily, they hadn't saw them, but wasn't sure how long there incredibly smart brains will kick in. He quickly side-stepped into the closest alley, trying to find his way to the girl. He soon found the shop that the girl was in.

Zack whispered to her. "Thanks for that..." He smiled, thinking: She's cute...

Brian and Elizabeth stopped playing and he walked towards the edge, he looked the horde and then looked at his sister. She was counting how much bullets she had and cleaned the blood of her machete. Brian looked at the alley and saw a boy running from the mob of walkers. He opened his eyes widely and called his sister.

"Lizzy! There is a boy in the alley!"

Elizabeth aproached her brother and they watched the human boy looking for something or someone. Brian looked at his sister and smiled at her.

"We should call him. You said finding a group would be great for us"

"Brian, we dont know if he is dangerous"

"Please? He looks like he needs help!"

"Fine, i´ll go down. Stay here"

Elizabeth got down and followed the boy. Luckily, the herd didnt find her. Elizabeth walked into the store and saw him.

"Hey, whats up?"

Auriel calmly sat on top of the roof of a nearby clinic. She had found a first aid kit and some antibiotics. She was only a few buildings away from her brother (@Flipperdoo2003 ). She did see quite a herd ahead of her, but she wasn't worried too much about it. She took out her Glock 17 and shot the fastest moving 'things' in sight. She shot each one in the head, not missing once.

Erin smiled at the guy, "no problem."

When a girl came up Erin looked at her "guess im just making more and more friends. But really, the horde will pass in a few hours." She shrugged, "should we wait or try to run." She questioned the two survivors.

"Are there more survivors with you two?"

Erin looked over the boy and a thought popped into her head, 'wow.'

@Flipperdoo2003 @EmilyPower

Zack swung around, startled at the 2 more survivors. "Oh, Hey!" He smiled, realising that there was now a child in there presence.

"I think we might as well stay, As you say, those things will pass." He looked at her and smiled. He realised that she was also checking him out, and started to blush. "I, Um, I don't think my sister saw me come into this place. I'll be back in a bit!" He smiled and slowly opened his door.

Erin realized that the boy had caught her looking and blushed red, "oh, be careful." She said shyly and looked down.

She quickly averted the awkward situation and went to the edge where she propped her elbows and kept watch, to make sure the walkers didnt hear anything.

(Just to be clear their all on the flowershop roof. Where the dead cant get up to. :) )

Zack then climbed down the ladder. He looked around his surroundings. 'Where could she be?' He thought. He retracted his steps to the music store, avoiding the horde. His sister usually kept safe on the roofs so he looked around the roofs, and saw a pair of legs. He couldn't see if it was a 'infected' legs or Auriel's feet. So to be sure, he took out his axe and slowly climbed the emergency fire escape ladders. All of a sudden, this 'thing' turned around at snarled and limped over to him. Luckily, it took a long time for him to do so, so he had managed to get a grip of his axe and swung it right into its head. He did it continuously, making sure that it was dead and not to come back from the dead...again. He checked out the body. It looked like he was a security guard, so he would sure have a gun, and he was right. Zack quickly grabbed the shotgun and took the key card. 'Maybe it will come in handy some time' He thought.

He looked around his surrounding and saw Auriel's on the roof next to him. He waved trying to get her attention.

The air inside was stale and stank of mold. Sasha suspected it had something to do with the lack of air conditioning. The bottling factory that he was taking refuge in probably hadn't seen fresh air in a couple years. Luckily for him, he didn't have anyone else around to make the already stuffy room stuffier. Plants like this practically ran themselves, which meant only a few workers were around to get bitten. They hadn't caused him much trouble. Sasha would come across the occasional stray, but it only gave him something to do every now and then. It was certainly more interesting than, say, leaning back in a desk chair, feet propped up, humming "Jeremiah was a Bullfrog" as he whittled a piece of old wood. Compared to this level of boredom, fighting the hoards almost seemed fun.

Sasha looked his masterpiece over: yet another pointy stick to add to the pile. He tossed it across the office where an assortment of similarly pointy sticks was slowly accumulating. He stopped his humming as he pushed his chair back, setting his feet back on the ground and standing up to stretch. Maybe he should check the radio, to see how his farm friend was doing. After twisting his back and popping his neck, Sasha went to do just that.

He grabbed the radio off the desk and plopped down on the floor to turn it on. It fizzled to life with a little static, then cleared as he turned to the right channel. Sasha picked up the receiver and spoke into it.

"Hello? You, sir, are the lucky winner of our monthly survey. Just send go online to this address and you could win a new car," Sasha grinned as he spoke in his best telemarketer voice.

"Cut the shit, Sasha." The voice that responded back was snappy and a bit cranky. Sasha chuckled.

"Bad day in paradise, eh?" The Russian man leaned back against the desk.

"We're struggling here. The refugees are tense and the outsiders are making threats almost twice a week now. We need backup."

"I'm working on it. I'm held up in another city; it's a nightmare to travel through these places."

Sasha leaned over to his backpack and rifled around it until he found his pack of gun. He unwrapped a piece and popped it in his mouth.

"Besides, I'm only one man. I can only do so much."

"There has to be other people where you are. Most people come in groups, haven't you found one yet?"

Sasha shrugged, even though the man on the other end couldn't see it. "Not my style, I guess."

"These aren't the times to be worried about style, brother."

Sasha was about to respond when his radio gave a couple short beeps. He cursed and leaned forward to examine it.

"Shit. I'm running out of battery. I'll have to go out and find more." He picked the radio up. "I'll call back in when I've got them."

The man on the other end was hesitant, wondering if Sasha was just making excused to elude their conversation. "Be careful," He finally said before static retook his end of the line. Sasha turned the radio off and stared at it for a moment, then shoved it down into his bag. He groaned as he stood up, taking his backpack by the strap and slinging it over his shoulders. He didn't particularly look forward to facing the hoards again, but if he wanted to find that farm, he needed his radio to stay alive.

Sasha left the office and slunk through the plant until he reached the outside door. He cautiously pushed it open and walked out, the sun's harsh light making him squint. He probably should have gotten out more, but the streets were dangerous. He held his gun ready as he headed down the block to the nearest store, hoping that its shelves weren't picked clean.

Auriel had noticed her brother waving and waved back. She finished shooting and killing the last couple of those 'things' and hopped off of the roof. She then walked over to her brother "Hey, what's up?" she asked.

Elizabeth looked at the other survivors.

"We could go to the alley. There is a ladder to the roof. I have a camp there. It's not far"

"Okay. Its better than sitting up here. " she smiled "but we should wait until the boy gets back with his sister. I dont want them coming here and seeing we arent here." She shrugged and sat on the ledge with her arms crossed.

Zack hugged his sister. "I found some more survivors!" He smiled and mumbled. "And one of them is really cute..." He scratched his back, nervously. Auriel and him were really close. They shared everything, secrets, ideas, the whole lot. "Come, We should not let them wait for us." He smiled, taking her hand and started running through the alleyways, trying to remember which shop they were in.

"Her again!" He smiled, looking at the survivors. Luckily, on their way back, they had not run into any walkers. "Guys, This is Auriel, my sister." He smiled, looking at the girl he now officially liked. "Oh, And my name is Zack!" He laughed. "So, What's our plan?"

Elizabeth looked at Auriel and Zack

"We are going to my camp. My brother is waiting for us there, I'm Elizabeth but call me Lizzy"

Erin smiled at Zack and nodded "its nice to meet you both. You too Elizabeth. I'm Erin." She smiled at her small group.

Erin joticed the sun starting to set behind the old New York buildings and sighed "we should get going before it's dark, gets hard to see the dead when there's no light. " She motioned toward the alley, "shall we?"

"Yeah, let's go."

Elizabeth guided the group until they reached the stairs. Elizabeth climbed the stairs and found her brother looking at the sunset.

"Hey Brian, I found other survivors"

The streets were unusually crowded today. Sasha wondered what poor muck had lured the walkers out of their holes. If he cared to find out, he might have stuck around. Instead, Sasha took to the roofs. He wasn't the first to use the roof tops of a means of travel. Someone had laid down wooden planks between the buildings, making wobbly, narrow bridges. He always felt like a circus act as he scooted across them.

Sasha hummed to himself, thinking about what he was going to have for dinner that night. Canned peaches? Again? Maybe he wasn't all that hungry. He chomped on his gum as he walked, blowing a bubble and letting it pop.

Up ahead, in the light of the setting sun, Sasha saw movement on the rooftops. He paused, readying his gun as he continued to hum. He'd never seen walkers on the roofs, not yet anyways. These people appeared human. He stopped humming as he lurked closer, looking for any weapons that the group might have. There were a few guns, but Sasha had a feeling that he had the upper hand when it came to shooting skill. Most these kids looked barely old enough to even own a firearm.

He lowered his gun slightly as he crossed over to their roof. "I hope you weren't planning to cross the bridge," He said with a slight grin. His accent was prominent in his voice. "There's a toll, you know."

Elizabeth turned around to see another survivor in their roof. She looked at the man's gun and then he looked at Brian. She noticed he was looking at the gun too.

"We weren't."

She said while putting her hand in her back. Almost reaching the her gun but she didn't take it out. She wanted to know if the guy was dangerous first.

"Brian, go say hi to the others"

Brian nodded an approached the rest of the group

"Hi, I'm Brian"

Elizabeth walked towards the man but not getting very close to him.

"I'm Elizabeth nice too meet you"

Sasha gave a half hearted laugh. Not many people thought it was 'nice' to meet him. "Call me Sasha," He said, taking a step closer to crossing the plank between their roofs. "And I got a deal for you. I see you need my roof," He motioned the walkers that were slowly gathering underneath them. "And that's fine. See, we can share. We can be friends. And I really think you'd rather be my friend," He smiled slyly. "But friends help friends, and I could use some help, Króshka. I need batteries, double A."

His boots made soft footsteps as they crossed the plank, bringing the large man onto their roof. He was sure to stand up straight, his shoulders back, making his appear to be even more intimidating. Sasha didn't want trouble, but he was something of an opportunist.

Auriel rolled her eyes at her brother. He always seemed so gullible to her. Even though she's younger than him, she promised herself that she would protect him. She was a bit excited about the survivors, but she new that she had to still keep her guard up. When they met the survivors she half smiled and slightly waved, not really wanting to. She didn't really feel like talking or responding to them. She felt it was a waste of time. She really believed that they were going to do something to betray her trust. She stayed silent as she follow the girl who her brother was apparently crushing on.

Elizabeth rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.

"This is not your roof. But, since I am being nice today we might share it with you. We have double A batteries and you can have them if you want. Just remember that we are not intimidated by you."

Elizabeth opened one of the boxes near her and took out double A batteries. She have them to Sasha.

Sasha chuckled at the girl. "Sorry Króshka," He said with a grin. "But as long as I have the bigger gun, I can take whatever I want. That's the world we live in now, sweetheart." He took the batteries with a pleasant smile and a nod, then looked past the girl at the rest of the group. They all looked young, most of them being teenagers. He was trained to spot hidden weapons on a person's body, and he could tell that most of them had guns. But how many of them actually knew how to use one? Sasha was willing to write them off as a non-threat. If he was a more despicable person, he may have been tempted to kill them all and take their supplies. It wouldn't be hard: trap them on the roof and spray them with bullets. He could take a gunshot or two; he'd done it before. But Sasha wasn't the cruel bastard that he liked to make himself out to be.

"You on a school field trip?" He nodded towards the people behind the girl, Elizabeth. Sometimes his sense of humor just didn't know when to quit. "Or is that your group?" The farm man's words came back to him; most people formed groups to survive. Why wouldn't he?

Brian smiled at the new guy and greeted him.

"Hi I'm Brian"

Brian noticed he had a gun but he didn't care. His sister had one too but she was nice. He wished the guy was nice too
