“So there may be others like me out there?” Tae questioned rhetorically, knowing that Phoenix did not have an answer for him but it was worth mentioning it aloud. “But if there were others out there that are also human in design, and they had the ability to guard someone, wouldn't someone have seen it before?" Perhaps the other robots looked like Tae too, same hair and same face, if so then it could be fairly easy to find them assuming they had ever been on camera before. If each humanoid 'guard' looked different however, then there was likely no easy way to find others of Tae's kind.
It made more sense for there to be more human PETs though since it would have been a miracle for Tae to have been the first of his kind. He was perfect after all. His technological and physical capabilities outdid all other PETs out there by far, not to mention a lot of the materials he was made from were expensive and hard to work with, meaning that someone had to have had experience with them before being able to shape them into human legs and arms. It was impossible that there had not been some manner of trial and error in his creation. Phoenix saying that his maker must have been important made sense too.
“Assuming that there are others out there like me…” Tae started, running a hand through his hair, suddenly aware of how messy it looked after dancing for all of that time. Apparently thinking about his creation made him aware of his appearance too. “Would I be the latest model or an earlier one?” It did not matter but Tae was curious because if he were old, then maybe his old master purposely tried to get rid of him, but if he was new, that meant that surely his master was out there looking for him. If new, he was an investment.
At the mention that he may have skills outside of the dance floor Tae shook his head no, “Most pets are outfitted not to be able to harm humans, it is one of the core programming done to them and it is illegal to remove this programming from your PET.” It was what made bot fighting so dangerous because in order to take part in that ‘sport’ you had to take away that anti-violence regulation so deeply embedded into every PET programming chip. Sure most PETs could only nibble or poke at a person, but for those that had tiger PETs and the like, it was clearly too much of a risk not to have some sort of protection installed into them. But still, Tae was no average PET so perhaps he could harm a human? “It’s no matter, even if I did have the capability to harm another human, it is my duty to serve, so I would rather not-”
The arrival of another person in the alleyway cut Tae’s pacifist sentence short mainly because he had to quickly turn off the hologram. Tae may have lacked a lot of social skills but he understood that he was supposed to be a secret. Naturally, if the man had seen the hologram projecting out of his eyes, Tae’s cover would have been blown right then and there. Thankfully though, the man seemed too drunk to notice, or at least drunk enough not to say anything about it.
At the comment of ‘hey, it’s you!’ Tae looked at Phoenix as if he could have gotten context from her expression. Tae had no idea who this man was and honestly, did not want to find out. Drunk men should be at home or in controlled locations like the club, it was wrong that people had to deal with them outside of such locations too. Leaning over to Phoenix, Tae attempted to understand what was going on outside of the fact that this was an argument. “I don’t know who this man is to you but he seems rather agitated.” Then, whispering now, Tae continued, “Would you like me to call the police? Public intoxication is illegal in this country, is it not?” That was the most logical reaction to have when faced with a drunk man who was shouting before introducing himself. Shouting was not how civilized society interacted, Tae knew that much.
Tae could do little to interfere but he did take initiative to call the cops as the man approached, both the stranger and Phoenix seemingly getting more upset over time. Tae only got more confused though since there was a lot of conflicting information on how to properly handle an argument when the third party. What was he supposed to do in this situation? What did ‘blowing’ had to do with this? When a few banters later, the stranger suddenly charged at Phoenix and tackled her to the ground, Tae could only crease his brows.
By rule, Tae had decent reaction times since his hands eye coordination was literally inhuman due to the wide frame camera he used to see, but this time Tae barely flinched. Instead, he just looked down confused as the man raised his arm up as if to hit Phoenix. What was the protocol for the master being attacked?
Just as Tae questioned this thought, something unlocked, not unlike how when he was trying to hack into the computers before. It was a hidden program so far encoded under description and passwords that even Tae could not access it… but it still could be activated by being in the proper situation.
Within that second between the drunk man raising his hand to his master and the fist flying down, Tae moved on impulse. One moment Phoenix was about to be punched and the next, all of the weight on top of her was missing. Tae instinctual rushed forward, sending his leg forward in a large sweeping, metallic kick that made contact with the man's gut and sent him flying across the alleyway and into the brick wall. There was a loud crunch at the same time, likely bones breaking either due to the metal foot or the brick wall the man was hit with.
Tae did not speak and his face was blank as usual, but as he stood slightly above Phoenix, his leg still hovering up in the air from the kick, his atmosphere was different. He looked at the drunk man like someone would look at a complex math problem, completely focused and a touch annoyed at its very existence. From the way he stopped pretending to blink and breath, standing completely still with perfect balance even if on one foot, he was clearly not trying to look human anymore. The only thing that could have made him look less innocent and human was if his eyes were glowing blue again.
Tae stayed in this balanced position until the drunk man managed to get to his feet again, coughing and gagging, but upright. Tae sprung over Phoenixes body towards the man then, not even slowing his movement as he spun, letting his foot hit the side of the man's face in a fluid motion. Blood squirted out from the man's nose or lip when contact was made, things moving too quickly to determine which one was bleeding. The stranger would have fell to the ground once again if Tae did not catch him by the back of his shirt, which was just enough for Tae to get the man in the right position for Tae to repeatedly slam his knee into the man's gut over, and over, and over again. This was a one way fight, clearly, Tae’s increased strength and metal body making every one of his kicks feel like a truck hit him.
One thing worth noting was that the bulk of Tae’s attacks were centered not only around speed and flexibility, but his legs. Apparently, the reason his legs were so unnaturally long was not for the sake of appearances, but for an extended range and power. He was designed to fight with his legs, jumping and spinning included.
This would have been fascinating realization were it not for the fact that Tae was not stopping his assault. Tae kept kicking the man down only to pick him back up, bloody and broken in a few too many places to be healthy. And unlike dancing, Tae did not look happy while doing this. The human PET was more like a statue, the the blood from the drunk man splattered across his face only making his skin look even more white.
He only had two thoughts as he pummeled the man with far too much efficiency. One, this man had attacked his master. Two, he was still breathing. If the man was breathing, then nothing was wrong. If the man was breathing, he was therefore still alive, and if he was alive then that meant Tae had not done anything wrong. A PET should not to kill without command, only to incapacitate. And by the time Tae was done with this stranger, he would not be able to attack his mistress again.
