So we've got that the fire nation attacks the water tribe. From there I think we should think about where the water tribe is culturally, I honestly think it'd be nice to have the avatar be a woman, because 1. the water tribe is pretty sexist and doesn't believe in training women to fight. This puts them at a huge disadvantage when they're attacked. 2. It could be used in the political aspect of the story.

I think instead of having the fire nation just out and out attack the water tribes they should give them a chance to avoid the genocide by giving up the avatar. Getting the Earth Kingdom to stay out of the way by promising to not invade, we all know how corrupt the earth kingdom is. The fire nation would also not expect anything from the air nomads who are typically peaceful, I think this should either be flipped by having the entire tribe prepare for war or by having the air bending teacher be the one who runs away to help as many people as he can.

Getting back to the water tribe, I think it'd be nice to have the tribe council vote to give up the avatar and then her mentor could attempt to save her putting him at odds with his tribe and maybe sending the avatar to the southern tribe or maybe the tribes are erased and she can learn how to water bend through combining aspects of the other elements which is something I've been interested in. IDK.

I like them not knowing that they are the avatar but if the air nomads would isolate Aang by telling him I don't see why the water tribe would be better in that regard. It's such an important role in their world and the more attached they get to normal life the harder I feel the transition will be. This could be part of the story though, resenting the responsibility and the title.

What if the Northern tribe already got erased, which is where the teacher and the avatar heritage from, now seeking to spare the southern tribe a similar fate?

For the idea with the air bending teacher, that´d be up for the player of it to decide. I think you wanted the avatar role, which would leave @LyannaMas the airbender, unless they dont want that?

Yeah, sorry that was just an example. It would be interesting to see what the air nomads do.

I'm not sure I get what you meant about the water tribe. The teacher and avatar survive and both head to the South?

Just read up everything. Just not too clear, every bending spot is taken, yeah?

I wouldn't mind taking a non-bending spot if that's the case.

I'm back. Basically from what I read, where we are is: female avatar that the Water Tribe wants to give up to avoid genocide and sexism stuff, Fire Nation tries to allow them peace but the water bending mentor takes the avatar away to save her, our characters meet the avatar under different circumstances (to be decided once worldbuilding is done), and the Northern Tribe is possibly eradicated.

I like the different ideas present so far, though I still think there's a couple loose ends we can fill.

And I don't want to repeat bending, the original group didn't have much of that, and I think it fits better to all be different.

Not yet. Someone mentioned something about the corruption of the Earth Kingdom. Maybe the Earth Kingdom reached some sort of "peace treaty" with the Fire Nation where they'd "be neutral," but in actuality work covertly with the Fire Lord to enforce their will on the rest of the world, and the earth bender could be one of the higher-ups in their military force who doesn't agree with the way things are and deserts to try and find the avatar and teach her so that the Fire Nation can be defeated.

That's a good idea but we'd also need the players roleplaying those characters present, my bad. Are any of you guys online?

Oh, so you are both present.

Your idea for the Earth bender character seems clean enough to me, are there any other details you have?

Hmm, maybe they could've been tasked with a number of jobs. They'd have started small enough: scare these peasants and farmers, attack opposing military convoys, etc. Eventually, the jobs would've gotten worse: steal from poor farmers, attack trading caravans and take their goods for no reason, take civilian hostages, etc. It would have been at this point that the earth bender would've decided that what he was doing and his service to the Earth Kingdom (or Fire Nation) wasn't worth his honor and the safety of the world, and he would've come to realize that the Fire Nation doesn't care about peace, and only wants to keep the Earth Kingdom at bay while they take out weaker foes. He'd try and convince the king, but he would have none of it, forcing the earth bender to leave his duties and escape the Earth Kingdom to try and find the avatar to make things right.

And it keeps going with my character

THe fire bender is a bit younger, she´s in her late teen years. She is the daugther of a noble family, who was trained in bending from a young age. But with the waging war, finding out what her nation did and intended to do, she found herself conflicted and fled. The idea was that along her way, unknowing of the world, she ran into our earth bender, grouping up with him, finding a friend and maybe somewhat of a new father figure in him. She has a lot of inner struggles with her morality, her place in the world, her nation, heritage, family.

Alright, so yeah. I think we can all take what we know and think about what our characters believe and why they disagree with what their countries are doing. Typically, and especially in times of war, soldiers and citizens are pretty supportive or governments, like the one in the Earth Kingdom, do a lot of really shady stuff to manufacture consent.

Interesting stuff. Now that I'm back and off work, looks like a good deal for what I'm seeing involving my Water bender. It fits well with his character I think.
