Name: Kazu Lok Gon

Gender: Male

Age: 34

Backstory:

Growing up in an upper middle-class merchant family in not far from Ba Sing Se, Kazu learned discipline from an early age. His family had been non-benders for generations, and he always assumed he was, too.
But he soon realized that the merchant's way of life was not for him. Despite his family's dissaproval, he set off, wandering the Earth Kingdom, looking for another way of life.
Since then, he lived off doing various small jobs, blending in with the proletariat.
At the age of twenty-six, he discovered by accident that he was an earthbender.
His family is not aware.

Personality:

Kazu is a realist. He always acts with great care, weighing pros and cons in his head.
Although he can seem rather stern on the outside, he actually wishes he could be more approachable and amiable.
He will never admit it, but he is rather self-concious about his bending, having discovered it later in life and not getting as much time to perfect it. Kazu usually practices bending away from other people.

Nationality: Earth Kingdom

Social Status: Upper middle-class (formerly), proletarian

Bending Affinity: Earthbender

Occupation: Job-hunter, living paycheck to paycheck

Fighting Style: As he is not confident in his bending, he mostly sticks to fighting with a short sword.

Fire Bending
occupation
"Beggar" by Day ; Petty Thief by Night
fighting style
Tanvi uses Chi Blocking to quickly incapacitate her attackers and get away unscathed. Due to her flexibility and mastery of the basics of the style, she's very quick on her feet and tends to rely on her mediocre fire bending skills as a distraction or last minute resort.
personality
Tanvi is a somewhat unique child, coming off as loud and obnoxious and unnecessarily blunt. And she truly is. She's proud of it because it makes people keep their distance, keeping them from getting to close and stealing her meager amount of possessions. She's brash and passionate and puts her heart into everything she does, but she's also a young teenage girl, something that she despises. Females are tended to be seen as weak and Tanvi hates that many look down upon her for her gender and strives to prove them wrong, especially when her name means 'a delicate girl'. However, she is a girl and once someone manages to crack her hard exterior, she's exceedingly loyal and protective and open to showing how she enjoys to have fun.
backstory
The first memory Tanvi has is of being told that she's a bastard child, the daughter of a lower tier noble who held no real power and a random Water Tribe woman. She doesn't remember who told her about her heritage, but she knows she's judged for it by those in her Nation due to her obvious blue eyes that set her apart from others. Tanvi spent most of her life running around the city and the orphanage that she was never adopted from. She didn't care much, creating a tough outer shell to protect her from the harshness of the world. Once she hit her teenage years, Tanvi began her career as a petty thief, swiping food and random trinkets from prickly merchants for laughs, using her skills in chi blocking and fire bending to help her get around undetected.

Name: Yura

Gender: Female

Age: 16

Personality: Yura is an observer. She rarely acts radically, and even when she does it's only for a split second. She is very empathetic, claiming that this is her best quality. She lacks confidence with anything besides her Bura, questioning if she can really be the Avatar the world needs. While she may come off as quiet at first, she is simply observing, seconding her next move. Once she gets close to you she is very sweet and bubble, trying to help anyone she can and often overwhelming herself.

Nationality: Northern Water Tribe

Social Status: Middle Class

Bending Affinity: Avatar

Occupation: Healer

Fighting Style: Sine Yura did not show any affinity for bending until later in life, she was trained to use a Bola on humans as well as animals. It wasn't until she was 14 she showed an ability to waterbend. Still not confident with any bending, she mainly sticks to her fathers Bola, though she hopes to gain confidence once again
Backstory: Yura grew up in the very repressed Northern Water Tribe. Her mother, Aguta, was a healer like the rest of the water bending women. Her father, Anik, was a non-bender, working in the army instead. Anik and Aguta met after Anik was injured and Aguta healed him. This, Yura was born. Since Yura was so quiet, her father decided to secretly teach her how to defend herself using common weapons. She had a knack for the Bura and thus always had one hidden on her. When she wasn't training with her father, she helped her mother and the other healers. She would help deliver babies, bring whatever the healers needed, things like that. Yura loved working as a healer, she felt like she really helped people. It was when she was 14 that she discovered she could waterbend and began training to heal right away. Her father tried to help her use her bending as defense, but Yura wasn't confident enough to do it. On her 16th birthday she was informed that she was the next avatar and left the northern water tribe to train.

Anyway here's my main character (I will also have a secondary, and a few sides for story purposes).
Name: Shogen
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Height:6' 4"
Appearance: Shogen has dark brown hair that is tied to the back of his head in a small braid, as well as a chin strapped beard. He has olive skin and dark brown eyes. At 6' 4", Shogen is rather tall, having broad shoulders, large hands and feet, and a muscular, burly build. Wearing the traditional colors of the Earth Kingdom ( green and brown) Shogen wears a short sleeveless tunic with studded wrist bands, white loose pants, and brown sandals (which he usually takes off when bending).

Personality: Shogen is rather quiet when he sees no need for him to speak, but will do so if he feels he must. Though he is generally nice, he is also rather stobburn, and it is difficult to change his mind unless he can logically see why he should. Which leads to another issue. While he can think rather logically, he does tend to reason himself into oppositions with others, and while he consciously opposes arrogance, he can have difficulty admitting when he is in the wrong. Dispite the two glaring negative traits, he is still kind and perfectly willing to humble himself if he realizes his pride.

Nationality: Earth Kingdom
Social Status: Middle Class
Bending Affinity: Earthbending
Occupation: Military Soldier
Fighting Style: As an earthbender, Shogen is very strong and durable, being able to give and take a very hard hit on battle. He typially fights with the idea of Listen and Wait. His fighting style often involves waiting for his opponent to strike, then blocking and counterattacking accordingly, but will strike first if he sees it necessary. He fights very decisively, and once he decides on an attack, he goes with it. If it is a mistake, he will find a way to channel it into a solution. While he prefers to fight with bending, Shogen is trained in physical combat, able to fight with his fists and feet, and is skilled with wrestling and grappling. When fighting in more close combat, Shogen fights in a very forceful style, using very heavy and strong strikes against his opponent to break their defense.

Backstory: Shogen was born to a household of a general of Ba Sing Se. Shogen's mother ended up dying from child birth, and his father had to raise him alone. Shogen inherited his father's bending abilities, and learned earth bending from him, as well as physical combat. Living in Ba Sing Se, Shogen is now a Soldier in the City's military.

Name: Nilak

Gender: Female

Age: 22

Personality: Younger Nilak was hardworking, loyal, quick witted, passionate, and modest. Current Nilak is much different: secretive, quiet, straightforward, and numb. She desires to find information to find her father, but at this point, anything of meaning to give her life purpose again.

Nationality: Northern Water tribe

Social Status: Lower class

Bending Affinity: Waterbender

Occupation: Assassin

Fighting Style: A waterbender mix of offense and defense, including channeling her opponents attacks to use against them. Her specialties involve being close to larger bodies of water, where her seafaring fighting skills often required her to manipulate large waves to get to safety. In addition, both before her assassination days and after, shes quite fond of creating mists to conceal her movements. The use of ice was always a go to choice for her, as it made it easier for her to puncture holes in pirate ships and puncture holes in her victims as an assassin.

Backstory: Nilak's mother passed giving birth to her, leaving Nilak's father, Tokkor, with a struggling trade business and a desperate need for a helping hand on his ship. Travelling from the northern tribe to the earth kingdom to trade goods from the northern market was a dangerous business and Tokkor couldn't continue to do it alone, especially after his crew abandoned his side with the rises in pirate activity.

From an early age, Tokkor trained Nilak in secrecy as a waterbending warrior, a skillful merchant/tradeswoman, and sailor. The intention was to have her by his side always on his ship to help. This bond made the pair extremely close as they managed to get the business back on track, defeating and evading pirates and other issues with their combined waterbending might and merchant skills. However, the day came when Nilak was 18, when their northern merchant ship was attacked by pirates and her father was captured, never seen since.

Heartbroken, Nilak managed to use the vessel to flee to the earth kingdom, knowing she would be unwelcome back in the northern tribe. She sold her father's ship, unable to bear to be around it without thinking of her father. Drinking her sorrows away in bars, she was struck up in a conversation by a man who noticed her water tribe clothing, wondering if she bended and was willing to get her hands dirty for good money.

From that point on, with her mind and emotions numbed with loss, Nilak began to take on work as a waterbending assassin. She excelled at her job. Her waterbending skills became a valuable asset to clients that needed assassinations done without a trace. She's often found at the shady bars that her contacts frequent, finding work. There is a method to what Nilak is doing, however. Through her dirty work she finds it the best way to get near those who are into piracy, in order to find information on what happened to her father.

Fhai Zao
Age: 31
Personality: Controlled, precise,
Nationality: Fire Nation
Social Status: Middle class
Gender: Male

Appearance:
Fair skinned, black hair, half shaved. He stands at 6'1 and is well built, weighing about 190 pounds. He has a strong jawline and sharp cheekbones. Piercing blue eyes that seem to be sharply fixated on whatever he happens to be looking at.

Bending Affinity: Fire Bending

Occupation: Wandering Warrior

Fighting Style: Fhai is versatile in his fighting. He often will change from the ridgid and brutal techniques of Shaolin Kung Fu to a more fluid and maneuverable style. He often fights with blades, preferring to close the distance on his opponents.

Backstory: Fhai was born to an officer in the Fire Nation Military and a doctor. His father led many expeditionary operations against rebellions and insurgencies. He was forced to retire from frontline combat when an engagement led to the loss of his right arm. Although he had a replacement, it hardly made up for the loss.

Fhai was forced into adulthood several years too early after this, having to pusb harder to please his father, who wanted him to be twice as capable as he was so he would never suffer the same injury.

At the age of 16, he was inducted into the Fire Nation Military academy and began his career as a dedicated and efficient warrior. He quickly rose to command a Battalion and led them from the front. He battled pirates and raiders and defended his people from attack.

After several years, his once dutiful attitude turned to disdain. The men underneath him had begun to take on a snobbish and self centered attitude. They started fights, harassed civilians, and were cruel to prisoners. Fhai could no longer tolerate it, and he left, in search of new meaning to his life.

A couple of things. (Though otherwise accepted).

1. Bender Affinity means what Element do they bend, if they bend any at all.

2.While not something that I would reject the CS over, the image is another example of what I mean by "does not fit in Avatar". Please replace the image with a more suitable faceclaim when you are able.

Name: Rin

Gender: Male

Age: 17

Height: 5' 7"

Appearance: Rin's really short. He's got long, smooth hair that acts heavier than it is, resting lazily over his head. He has a tear-dropped shaped face and a runner's build: thin but strong. He holds himself lazily and keeps his shoulders loose, an attribute he adopted to better suit the natural combat style of most other airbenders. He's dressed in typical, baggy air nomad attire. Unlike more traditional nomads, he forgoes the strange half-poncho piece that Aang wore. He's almost always seen carrying his satchel filled with small marbles (which also functions as his make-shift purse/wallet). Since it contains both his funds and only physical weapon, he's fairly protective of it.

Personality: Despite appearances, Rin is much smarter than he makes himself seem, and he knows this. He approaches people with an air of immaturity and ignorance. He tries to assume the roll that he was given since birth: a naive rich kid. Those who know him well enough knows he has a knack for reading people. Despite his outward demeanor, he can read very well and is well-spoken.

Nationality: Air Nomad

Social Status: Upper class

Bending Affinity: Airbender

Occupation: Merchant's Apprentice

Fighting Style: Rin is as loose a fighter as the next airbender, choosing to rely on his bending abilities than his strength. Talented, but not much of a fighter, he tires quickly. He relies on fooling his opponents rather than attacking directly. When forced to fight, he prefers to fight with large cork marbles he uses his bending to keep in the air, preferring to use projectiles to keep his opponents busy while waiting for an opening. Rin is not very good at hand-to-hand combat. He can throw a punch, but he kinda sucks.

Backstory: Rin is the son of a wealthy merchant. From a early age, he excelled in his classes and quickly finished his training in the village temple they had settled in. Impressed by his son, Rin's father allowed him to travel alone with the condition that he write a letter to him every year. Rin isn't an experienced merchant, relying more on his intuition than practical knowledge. Still, he has made enough to live comfortably, and is set on traveling to see more of the world.

Name: Akira
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Appearance:
13774622_453966151395401_526599260_n.jpg

Personality: A kind and warm if not absolute soul, Akira tries to find the best in everyone even when they don't see it in themselves. It is no surprise that people are caught off guard when the assumed naivety that people think of when they see kindness is nowhere to be found and Akira can scheme and con with the best of thieves.
Nationality: Air Nomad
Social Status: Lower Class
Bending Affinity: Air
Occupation: Mercenary/Assassin

Fighting Style: Akira does not charge blindly into a fight, in fact if he is seen it is generally a sign of oncoming defeat as he takes into consideration every part of the environment before striking. His style consists of using disturbances in air currents to nimbly dodge attacks and uses joint locks and vital strikes fortified by air bending to take his opponent down quickly. If in a desperation situation though, his style changes for the worse as he employs the use of wires and air bending to cut off his opponents movements and go in for the kill. His style earned him the name " Mantis Spider" for the way it waits to strike and slowly crumbles the body once it does...Akira thinks the name is stupid though accurate.

The truth to Akira's dodging is that he is constantly using his bending. He produces a slight current around him that when disrupted tells him where he is being attacked from, however when fights tend to drag on his current starts to shrink in closer and closer to his body making it harder to dodge.

Backstory: Truthfully Akira is like every other low class citizen, he fell into working as an assassin because it was something that made money. He could have easily been a theif or a worker but it just so happened that his style was more suited for protection and assassinating, maybe something to do with his father being fire nation.

As a child Akira was instructed on both meditation and martial arts, while most children played, he was getting ragdolled or enlightened by his mother and father. He didn't mind it though, as he found practical training more fun than running around aimlessly.

When his father died of illness, his mother took over the whole of his training, teaching Akira how to show kindness without being weak and that one cannot be condemned for the decisions that fate has put in front of them. This only served to maker Akira desperate when his mother fell ill as well years later.

Desperate to find any kind of quick paying work to buy medicine for his mother, he took on a job taking out a very abusive officer who tended to hurt the lower class for fun...As it turned out, he had a knack for assassin work though he could only laugh through his tears at how ironic it was that his mother had died the same night he took his first life. Since then Akira has been traveling place to place on various missions
