At the Adventurers' Table

@Sherwood Re: Ring. You are correct. =)

@Wolf. Re: Loot. Well, I am a big believer in your being able to loot what was used against you (within reasonable extent). I mean, if some jerk is using a +5 long sword on you, and you put him down, that +5 long sword should still be there (with no OOC strings attached). For example: The Adventurers' Wagon. When I first created Bilal's Menagerie, it never entered my mind that you guys would wind up with it. Still, I created it, and given the circumstances it is quite fair that you wind up with it. =)

Re: Selling loot. Assuming the Wanderers and Travis's Trainers get along (which seems likely), I don't see why they cannot trade or sell at the aforementioned little shop. Otherwise, you'd be hauling around this gear with no use for it (until you reached Highwind, but why wait that long?). =)

Talking of gear, I don't see much of use to Otiorin beyond the oodles of cash, so he'll let the rest pick and choose what they want and leave the rest in the kitty.

Captain Hesperus

I'd say sell whatever we don't want, especially the large-sized armor and the evil flail, if they'll take it. (If they won't, Bren has an idea for disposition, but we'd likely lose out on the sale price that way.) More gold in the chest is never a bad thing. ( ;) ) I think we ought to keep the Bull's Strength potions and the ring (whichever one Luna's not wearing), though. May come in handy later, and they don't take up much room.

No objections from me, regarding Luna taking the +2 ring. Maybe Otiorin wants the old ring, or Bria's cloak? Higher saves are also never a bad thing. ( :P )

I'm conscious of the spell-like effect the ring/cloak bring and how they might interact with stuff I already use.

Captain Hesperus

Wolf already took the bow and arrows and that's about all he'd want. Some gold would be nice to fill his pocketses tho *rawrrr*

So, how many people are we dividing up the gold for? Luna, Wolf, Otiorin, Bronze and Kitrin were the original PCs, but we now have Kitrin being switched out with Bren and the addition of Powerpaw and Bria. Dividing the 3500 seven ways gives everyone an even 500 gold. If both Kitrin and Bren get a share, it comes out to 437.5 each. That doesn't count any gold we get for selling the unclaimed minotaur weapons and armor. I am hoping that the Trainers will take that stuff in trade for boosting our level.

First of all, expenses. We are training 7 people (Luna, Wolf, Otiorin, Bronze, Bren, Powerpaw, Bria).

Second of all, we have three items to sell (at least, and assuming we can sell at expected value):

- Large-sized (dwarf-headed) flail +2, worth

9,000 gp

- Large-sized hide armor +2 of movement, worth

3,625 gp

- Large-sized hide armor +2 of movement, worth

3,625 gp

Third, we have acquired 3,500 gp in currency.

Fourth, we should split the profits between Luna, Wolf, Otiorin, Bronze, Kitrin, and Bria. Bren did not participate in the battle and something tells me that Powerpaw isn't attracted to money (I could be wrong).

That leads to the following estimate:

Trainees: 7

Fee per trainee: 700 gp

7 x 700 = 4,900

Total Training Fee: 4,900 gp

Items to sell: 3

Value: (as estimated)

9,000 + 3,625 + 3,625 = 16,250

Total Income: 16,250 gp

Total Gold: 19,750 gp (with the 3,500 gp from the coffer)

Total gold after expenses: 14,850 gp

Applicable party members: 6 (as explained)

Gold split per member: 2,475 gp

As you can see, the Wolf-Approved stamp is there which means this is a certified and potentially binding document *rawrrr*

That will certainly give me enough money to make up some scrolls to add to my equipment list.

(SILLY MOMENT) "Gun-Powder? Any smokless? You know... GUN... POW... DER?!" Oh wait wrong dimension. Sure Bronze can do the whole, set up the anvil and forge thingie, and do repair o fixits and stuff.

Hah! Killfire & Wolf, you two are nuts! You're also know how to make a guy laugh. =)

O.K. Here are some following numbers I'll confirm and throw into the mix:

1. Sherwood sez,

Kinda a 20; what kind of deals can we make with the gear we are selling?
Well, I let the (armored?) cat out of the bag by giving you the true selling value of the items you have collected. The appraise skill does just that (it does not assist with bartering aside of accurately providing values for items).
2. That said, I'll speed things up and tell you this:

2a. Travis's Trainers will buy all of the items you are willing to sell (including that foul flail).

2b. Their small store includes mundane items (things like arrows, basic supplies, some melee weapons).

3. Yes, for some reason half-elves (what very few there are) get half-off with Travis's Trainers.

4. Bronze can use his (excellent) crafting skills to pay for training (and therefore be charged nothing).

5. Powerpaw
is interested in coin (or rather, all of the "Moar" it can buy). Given how much meat he eats, he definitely wants in on his share. Plus, like the rest of you, he wants the option of purchasing better gear down the road, too.

6. Paying for Bren's training. Kaerri and I've been talking about this. To be fair (and in-character), the Wanderers shouldn't be paying for Bren's training, should they? They've just met after all. Still, Bren must train. We've come up with a simple fix: Bria. She and Bren know each other, and she would gladly loan him 700 gold for the training.

Side note: Ko monks do not use coin currency at home and have to be trained in its use prior to leaving the Phoenix monastery. They tend to be naive in its use (and sometimes easily swindled). Bria (being the generous sweetheart that she is) is likely to pay for Bren's training and soon after, forget that he "owes" her anything. Bren (being the truly honorable fellow that he is) is equally-likely to remind Bria and pay her back somehow. Both of these characters follow a way of thinking best stated by the fictional and warm-hearted character, Cadfael who said with a smile, "Between friends, there is no owing." This holds true between these two. This is also one of my favorite sayings. =)

So, do we now have a training montage of the Wanderers leveling up to 7th? Complete with inspirational music playing in the background like in a Rocky movie?

On another note, how do we post the training? Is there anything we need to post to help out on our side?

@Sherwood Do you mean a role-playing response? No worries. Once the Wanderers show some kind of proof that they are not enemies of Highwind (which they do possess even if all of the players are not yet aware of it), and provide payment for the training, I'll handle the rest with an IC post (which is already written - I hope you enjoy it too when you see it).

I recommend folks go ahead and sell the items (here in OOC) and divvy up the gold as you see fit. Bria will subtract 1,400 gold (for herself and Bren). Bronze does not pay (and has a good window for some role-play opportunity with the trainers, Stewart, the Meadowsweets, and Kitrin if Killfire wants it?). Otiorin pays 350 gold, and the rest (Luna, Wolf, Powerpaw) pay 700 gold each.

Sound good, folks?

As your storyteller, I'm not in the habit of dividing the gold you earned for you (but I can do so if you want to). In other words, you're free to sell the items you don't need and divide your gold as you see fit.

A note about currency and weight: In my game, instead of having thousands and thousands of little gold pieces to carry and count, we have a currency not found in the books - Mithril coins. These little babies are made of their namesake and each are worth 1,000 gold. Oh, and they're a heck of lot easier to carry around than gems and jewelry (the value of which can fluctuate depending on whom you deal with). So, feel free to transfer your currency into these (or at least into platinum pieces?). I didn't put Bags of Holding on your starting gear with the notion of carrying only gold pieces... =)

There is a plethora of lower level spells that I'm hoping to add to my list. What will the Trainers charge for that?

Re: RPNation likes. That is the fastest pair of likes I have ever gotten. I'm glad you guys like the idea of mithril coins. =)

Hey, its a good idea. Remind me to tell you of the time a DnD group I was a part of filled a pit-trap with copper pieces because we got tired of falling into it over and over again. We took wagonloads of coin to this dungeon just to get this pit filled. It cost us a fortune, but it was good for one hell of a laugh.

Re: Copper Piece Pit. Ha ha ha! That's hilarious (and practical)! You and yours must have really hated that pit! =)

@Sherwood That assumes the one arcanist among them has spells for sale. Speaking purely in meta-game terms here, while trainers can get your characters to the next level (and provide any spells your character needs for said level), they really aren't supposed to have much utility beyond that. As for pricing, they typically sell for double the cost to make a scroll of said spell. Having said that, high-level spells (7th-9th level) can have their costs vary greatly. As an example, there is a big cost difference between, say, an Energy Drain spell and a Wish spell (both are 9th level spells).

I am currently rolling the dice to see what ol' Schermitt (your arcanist trainer) has. Since you're on (and I'm rolling real dice), Sherwood, what color dice would you like me to roll for that? =)

I'm looking for some 1st and 2nd level spells, like Unseen Servant, Ear Piercing Scream and Web. Stuff that should be easier to get ahold of than the ever-present Fireball.

Make the dice a shade of blue and grey. I like the way that looks together.

Sherwood sez,

Luna nods. "If it helps, I can offer up trade of some spells in my collection that you may not have to help sweeten the deal." She saunters over to discuss business with Schermitt.
Trade? As in take the spells out of your spellbook? Luna doesn't have the time to scribe scrolls.

What's Ear Piercing Scream? I don't see it in the Core book.

Blue and gray it is for spell availability. Good luck! *rolls*

That one is a first level spell. Does sonic damage, 1d6 per 2 levels, max of 5d6. Let me copy a link over for it.

School evocation [sonic]; Level bard 1, bloodrager 1, inquisitor 1,sorcerer/wizard 1, witch 1

CASTING

Casting Time 1 standard action

Components V, S

EFFECT

Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)

Target one creature

Duration instantaneous; see text

Saving Throw Fortitude partial (see text); Spell Resistance yes

DESCRIPTION

You unleash a powerful scream, inaudible to all but a single target. The target is dazed for 1 round and takes 1d6 points of sonic damage per two caster levels (maximum 5d6). A successful save negates the daze effect and halves the damage.

Re: Ear-piercing Scream spell. I like it. It's in the game. =)

Good news. Old Man Schermitt does have a few lower-level spells for sale (as scroll spells), and with the haul you have earned, I believe Luna has enough in her share to possibly clean this guy out. Your choice, of course.

His list includes the following:

Cantrips (25 gold each)

Mending

1st level spells (50 gold each)

Animate Rope

Comprehend Languages

Detect Undead

True Strike

Unseen Servant

2nd level spells (300 gold each)

Cat's Grace

Darkvision

3rd level spells (750 gold each)

Keen Edge

@ All. So, before any purchases are made, what are you keeping, selling, and how is the gold being divided amongst your party? =)
