Fantasy Asylum of Memories (IC)

PuppehDoge9999

RP Nation's only canine member
Derek loved anything involving the paranormal. Whenever he wasn't doing collage work, he studied crypto-zoology, supernatural figures in mythology, and records of otherworldly events. He enjoyed the tingling sensation he got whenever he discovered something creepy or illogical happening in history, or even his everyday life. His friends weren't as obsessed as he was, though they did take an interest every now and then.

It was a cold autumn day. The leaves were changing colors, and the birds were migrating south for the winter to come. As usual, Derek had his homework done early so he could scan through the local news, as to find anything unnatural or strange. He didn't have to look for long. The top news story read:

Abandoned Asylum Due for Demolition Later This Month.

After the closure of the "Blissful Memories" insane asylum, local citizens have reported seeing or hearing paranormal events from the windows of the building. Reports include; a transparent girl, flashing lights at night, barely audible screams, bloodstaines appearing randomly on the windows, and many other things. It's is unsure whether this is a legitimate haunting, or just a hoax. The city has scheduled the destruction of the building three weeks from today. Any more updates about the situation will be in the local news.

Imdietly, Derek forwarded a link of the webpage to his friends via email, with the subject, "Who's up for an exploration?"

Derek sat on the curb outside the asylum. In one hand he held a flashlight, and in the other he had a thermal camera. He checked his watch. Five minutes until the others get here.

Shuichi wasn't the sauvest strolling down darkening streets. His eyes were always darting to the dark corners and blurry figures in lit windows. His hands couldn't decide whether to remain at his side or play it cool by staying in his pockets. To him, every buzzing grasshopper sounded like a siren, and every bird's caw a bad omen. Even when he was nearing Derek, Shiuchi fell into doubt that this was a good way to spend his night.

He spoke without looking directly at him, curiosity taken by the ominous structure ahead. "Hey D. Ya caught me at a good time. My head ain't spinning like it was a few days ago." He shifted his eyes, searching for approaching dark figures in the streets. "Just us two or what?"

Derek stood up and began preparing his thermal camera. "No, we're not the only ones. The others should be here soon."

Derek was not the only one who'd done his homework early, Autumn walked quickly down the cold streets. One hand was in her pocket, the other holding a crumpled tissue to her pink nose. She considered telling Derek and the others that she was sick but Derek was her friend and she was eager to help. Her thick coat kept her majorly warm, although her short skirt wasn't, the cold breeze attacking her bare legs.

Finally, the asylum came into view. Oh my. Autumn mentally gasped. She was getting nervous chills and a bit of adrenaline already. She spotted Derek and Shuichi outside, by the curb. Autumn gripped her backpack straps tightly, after blowing her nose, approaching the two.

"Evening" she said quickly.

"Did you receive Derek's email? He's checking this place out and asked if anyone else is interested also". Quickly, Autumn wiped her nose with her sleeve, feeling her nose tickle. She sniffed softly, trying to ignore the tickle.

Autumn slid off her backpack and unzipped it, revealing its contents. "And I brought some food, water, and a first aid kit. But that flashlight... will... be... useful. Hold on". Nearly dropping her backpack, Autumn spun away and sneezed into her shoulder. "CHOOOOOO"! She took out another tissue and blew her nose. "Excuse me". She faced Alex, trying not to look any sicker than she already felt. She begged that he wouldn't realize that she was sick.

"Thank you" Autumn said softly, pocketing his tissue and coughing softly. "I know we're not going there long, I just like to be prepared. Just in case. We're just waiting for everyone else to arrive". Autumn then sat on the curb, trying not to sniffle or sneeze again. She smoothed down her skirt, her backpack beside her.

Shuichi's face scrunched, his nose upturning at the sickly Autumn. Her diseases made him worry for his own health, and so he kept his distance. Her pack made him worry for different reasons. He hadn't brought anything besides the clothes on his back and the stuff he always carried in his deep pockets. The thought alone made his stomach rumble, which he did his best to cover up by stuttering out something quickly. "M-maybe you should've sat this one out. That nose of yours is redder than a bloody tomato."

"I'm fine, Shuichi". She wasn't sure if she pronounced his name correctly. "I'm capable of exploring an asylum". However, she covered her nose with a fresh tissue as it ran again.

Chris had been sitting in a tree above them before Derek was even there. He liked to been early for things so he could get a good look at what they were dealing with. The asylum was a pretty good size; they could be in there for hours upon hours. And the way it was painted, a simple, single shade of white made it appear cheery during the day, but at night without any lights on, it was a whole new level of creepy. After snapping a few photos on his camera, Chris looked down and saw that more of them were gathering around. He stuffed everything back in his back and slid off the tree, landing in front of the others.

"Ah. Hello, Chris. It's great to see you". Autumn wiped her nose with the tissue, hearing squelching sounds which made her panic a little.

Jeremy was outside, staring at the asylum. Although he couldn't exactly remember the taxi ride on the way here, he was fully experiencing the moment now. The cold air filled his lungs until he let a deep breath out, releasing shivers of anxiety.

"Well... This seems like the place."

Outside he saw some people. Perhaps his contacts

"Hey, were you the ones that sent the message?"

Derek said, "Yep. And this should be everyone now." He took a deep breath and said, "Let's go." He then slowly began ascending the shambled sidewalk, leading to the abandoned asylum.

Chris nodded their head. "Autumn, same to you." They said in a friendly manor. Noticing her tissues, they inquired her. "Feeling a bit stuffy?" They then turned to Derek. "So, what's the plan?"

Derek stopped momentarily and confidently said, "We go inside, explore, and try to figure out why all of this creepy stuff is happening."

"Seems like it's my suit."

Jeremy said in a tired, yet cocky tone.  He walked up to Derek

"You sure these scrubs can handle it?"

He said with a smirk while popping a piece of nicotine gum in his mouth. He couldn't quite remember being a smoking addict, but he sure was a freak when it came to gum. He knew every brand and every flavor, even sometimes enjoying specialty gum for smokers.

While chewing, he climbed up the entrance. Immediately, he started to wander, nearly seperating himself from the group if his common sense didn't take over

Shuichi was set to follow mode as he kept behind Saruna (more specifically her flashlight), giving the stink eye to that Chris who'd nearly made him screech in surprise. He managed to hold it back, but only barely, much to his frustration. He grumbled to himself, continuing to scope out the area in anticipation for watching eyes. There were none. Good.

"Let's get in there already. I want to see if they secretly did Human-Centipede shiz in there. That and knab me a straight jacket. I wonder how tight they really are..."

Derek scanned the building for a way in. He couldn't find one, though after further inspection he got an idea. After observing the yard, he was able to gather togather a lightbulb, a box of wet matches, and a magnesium coil, (probably from a radio speaker.)  He sat down on the pavement and broke open the lightbulb. He took the filament and set it aside. Using the Swiss army knife that he kept in his pocket, he scraped the striker material off of the matchbox. He placed the filament in the striker powder and struck the magnesium coil against it. The coil burst into a small shower of sparks. He ran to the entrance and held the sparking metal against each of the nails holding the door shut for about ten seconds. The sudden rise in heat caused the rusty metal to expand, and he was easily able to pull them out. He flung the door open.

"Come on in, everyone." He said, grinning.
