Futuristic ARK: Survival of the Fittest (Closed)

Roan chuckled and shrugged, "I mean it kinda looks like a chicken."

How did he know what a chicken looked like? To his knowledge he has never seen a chicken.. but still.. he know what he was talking about.

"Right?", Jack had never seen a chicken either, he just for some reason had an image in his head of a brightly colored small, nearly flightless bird with tasty wings and legs. Like a dodo, but actually willing to fight off threats. After a bit, he shook his head, "You never did name that thing, did you?"

"No, I didnt. I dont know what to name it." Roan shrugged again, "Any ideas?"

"It's a thief," Jack shrugged," I'm sure you'll figure something out." The sun was getting low, so Jack went into his hut. Lil' Chicken shot up into the rafters once he was inside, the thing liked being high up where it could dive-bomb the most possible things.

It was actually the raptors killing something that woke the group up the next morning. A sarco had maged to break down a section of the fence and get in, but didn't get very far before being set upon by the pack. "I'll be damned," Anna said with a grin, "These things are lethal."

"I'd say," Roan commented with a yawn, "The sarco didn't even get a chance to get near the paras."

"I think we are gonna be well protected," Vera said, watching the raptor eat what was left of the sarco.

"Hehe," Anna was liking these raptors more and more. "If Jack doesn't want one can I have his?", she asked, already on her way down the ladder to congratulate Occisor and the pack for their accomplishment.

Everyone's implants buzzed. Points had been unlocked.

"Maybe, we will see." Roan answered before looking at his implant, "Well would you look at that."

"Oh, nice, more points to spend." Vera cheered.

"Whoo!", Anna sounded excited at the prospect of more points. Maybe they'd be able to get some cooler stuff to help them fight things off. She found Occisor and patted his neck, "Good boy, Occisor!" The raptors had gotten some points in the last day and that fight, and Anna put Occisor's into movement speed and damage. Make him fast and make him deadly, she liked that.

"I already said my bit about the damn raptors," Jack rolled his eyes as he opened his menu, and his eyes just about bugged out of his head once he'd assigned his stat points into Health and Weight. "Damn." He'd have to sit down and think on that one. He saw he could unlock stone building materials, but so far they hadn't been able to collect enough stone to be able to build something worth it out of the stuff.

"You have now but you may change your mind if they kill for you some more," Roan chuckled, sitting next to him. He looked at the stat points only to realize he had never spent the points from the day before. He hummed deciding to put two points into his health, one into weight, one into speed and the last into his fortitude, "Thats a lot of points."

Vera looked at her own points, putting them into speed and strength, "Any preferences for what her an i take or is it free game?"

"Whatever you want, as long as it's useful," Jack waved Vera's question off, "I'm mostly building and clothes, Roan's mostly taming equipment and weapons. That leaves you two to whatever you want." He started down the ladder to go repair the fence and make sure all the parasaurs were okay. They were fine but spooked. Considering what had just happened, that was good.

"I'm going into some weapons," Anna shrugged, spending her points on Movement Speed and Stamina, and then assigning her Engrams.

After several minutes spent assigning engrams, Roan set to work making a forge and smithy, "Where can I put these?"

Vera simply hummed an agreement with Anna as she assigned her points.

The top floor of the strucutre was entirely filled with living space, but the bottom tier of platforms had been purpose-placed for crafting stations and storage. That was probably as good a place as any. Jack confirmed that when he came back up. "Bottom floor, mind the pillars."

Now Anna could make a bow, and she wasted no time doing that and filling out some of her carry weight with arrows. That should be way more damaging than her spears had been, right? "So do you want a raptor or not?", Anna asked the giant.

"Not in a million years." Jack rolled his eyes, "Even if I did I'd probably crush it."

Roan set to work filling in some of the space with a few forges and a smithy, taking the time to spelt some of the metal they already had on hand. It would be a while before they would be able to make anything, but at least they had the supplies to do so.

Vera giggled at the idea of such a large man trying to ride the small and slender creatures, "You might. You already tower over them."

Jack rolled his eyes, "That's why I ride Hardhead." He patted the larger dinosaur's neck, "He's also not going to eat me if I forget to feed him."

"He says with a carnivorous bird draped around his neck," Anna giggled, "Looks like I get to pick an extra dino, then." She looked at the two unclaimed ones, one slate grey with yellow accents, and one green. "I'm gonna call you Thunder," she said to the one with the yellow accents.

"Can I have the other Raptor?" Vera asked, "I mean it gives each of us two dinosaurs at least, right?"

"Yea, I don't see why not," Roan said, walking over to the raptors. Vera cheered, "I'm naming you... Gaia. Since you're green."

Anna decided not to mention that that arrangement gave her three dinosaurs, counting Dummy, even though Dummy was more of a pack mule. Roan had the same amount, between Figaro, the Pegomastax, and Cicero.

"If we work on gathering resources all day," Jack called, looking up from where he was doing math, "We can finish fortifying this place today, and if we do the same tomorrow we'll be prepared to move on."

"Can I make a suggestion?" Roan called out, "We could really use some metal, I think I saw a bunch down the path Anna and I were on yesterday. Think maybe we should go and grab some so we can have better tools."

"Jack and I can stay and work on this if that's what you want to do." Vera said in almost an agreement.

"You can make better tools?", Anna sound excited at that prospect. Being even more lethal was something she could get behind, with all of these dinos around.

"Sure, but be back by sundown, we don't know what predators come out at night," Jack nodded. "And be careful about leeches, Vera said something about them being an issue."

"Don't even get me started," Anna shuddered, she still had the bite marks on her legs.

"Leeches?" Roan sounded. That didn't sound too fun, "Great. Well, Anna, you and I can take a parasaur and a raptor each. That way we maximize what we haul."

"And then Jack and I can just work on what we have here, Right Jack?" Vera added.

Anna gave a thumbs up and went to retrieve Dummy from the paddock. She did some sorting in her inventory, making sure she wasn't carrying anything she didn't expressly need on this journey. Food, she had some cooked meat. Waterskin, freshly filled. Hatchet, pickaxe, torch, bow and several dozen arrows. She couldn't think of anything else she specifically needed to carry for this, especially since they'd need all the available carry weight they could squeeze out of these dinosaurs.

"Yep," Jack nodded, "I've unlocked tranquilizer arrows, so if we can separate a trike or two we can add those to our roster." Something that big could probably carry a whole lot of supplies.

"Yea, we should work on that too then," Vera agreed. Roan took to clearing as much inventory space as he could afford. Even choosing to carry berries rather than meat for his food. They were lighter and if push came to pull, she could toss them out without really losing much, considering how common they were.

"You ready?", Anna called from the back of Dummy, before whistling for Occisor to come along.

Jack laid out some raw meat to spoil in the sun, the recipe needed that, and sent Hardhead to go after berries so they'd have the narcoberries to make the magic happen. "Let's get this started," he flipped his axe and started towards the edge of the shrinking forest to keep up with the demand of materials. He ended up just laying a ramp down so they could get up to the stuff without swinging on the edge of the swamp.

Roan went to the smithy, finding just enough supplies to make one metal pick. Returning to Anna and climbing onto the back of Figaro he nodded, "I am now. Let's go."

"Whatcha doin' Jack?" Vera asked as she watched him lay a ramp down.

Anna nodded and flicked the reins to urge Dummy onwards. Raptors following behind, they made it well past the edge of the beach before any trouble appeared, in the form of a sarco that the raptors seemed to be having some trouble dealing with.

---------------------
"Laying a ramp down," Jack explained, "If there's more microraptors over where Lil' Chicken attacked us, I don't want to risk getting stunned with a sarco or a raptor nearby."

Rushing foward to aid the raptors, Roan maneuvered Figaro to attack the sarco as well. After a few hits they had the thing defeated, "We might have needed another raptor or two."

------------
"That's probably a good idea, actually. Good thinking." Vera nodded as she watched.
