Aquatic Discovery

Aria smiled back and wheeled herself over to follow Acacia "Thanks, Acacia. Have I mentioned how nicely you've treated me ever since I got here?"

"You're a priceless specimen and a human being... err humamaid." She helped her guide to a large room with scientists everywhere. She made her way to a kiosk.

Aria couldn't help but smile, still happy that she was important to Acacia. She looked around at the room full of Humans as she followed closely behind Acacia.

Acacia walked to the man and argued foe a minute. She was given s tag and a card, then the man harumpbed and sat down. She walked over to Aria and clipped the tag to the end of her tail, then smiled, "let's get going.

Aria looked at the thing Acacia just attached to her tail "What's this?" She asked, at the same time wondering if it would interfere with her swimming patterns.

"It's just a tiny tag to keep you in check." She wheeled her out, "it's virtually weightless, if that is what you're thinking." She brought her to her car and helped her into the seat.

Aria looked around the large contraption she was helped into. She wanted to ask what this was as well, but she felt like she was asking too many questions. That, and she figured if it was important, she'd find out in a moment.

"Um, okay..." Aria started, then she jumped as they started moving. She was sure she looked incredibly silly in front of Acacia, at this point.

Acacia drove them to a large mansion, two stories with forest cover around it. She drove in and opened Aria's door, then helped her back into the chair, "this is my home."

Aria stared at the mansion with her eyes wide, struck silent with awe. This is where Acacia lived? It was huge! She'd never imagined anything like this before. She couldn't even comment, she was so amazed at this sight.

She wheeled her in through the gate and then to the large backdoor pool. She smiled, "it's big enough to swim in, if you get too dry." She sat down on a small lawn chair.

Aria shook her head quickly to snap herself out of it, and dove into the water. This place was bigger than the tank from before, she had to admit. Surfacing in front of Acacia, the sparkle in her eyes was still quite clear "So, you really live here? In a place this big?"

She nodded, "I used to have some friends who shared it, but I never married so I just ended up living here alone." She smiled and sat down by the pool side.

"Wow... So, living in a place like this is unusual?" Aria asked. She was already shocked Acacia lived in such a huge place, but she'd be even more surprised if this kind of place was standard. She'd never really known anywhere bigger than her cave in the ocean.

"Normally homes are much smaller and don't have this much land. I was lucky in th proceedings and my job pays for most of the house." She took off her shoes and socks, then laid her feet in the water.

Aria nodded "I see... Still, this place is amazing. I can't even begin to explain how incredible it is..." She said, resting her arms on the edge of the pool.

Aria pulled herself up out of the water and laid down next to Acacia, smiling back at her "It's amazing, that's really all I can say..."

Acacia leaned back and laid beside Aria. For some reason, she couldn't stop smiling. She turned, "do mermaids fall in love? How long do you live?"

Aria blinked as Acacia asked her question "D-... Do we fall in love? Well... Yeah, we do..." She said, as she started to consider her own feelings for Acacia "I'm not sure what the uninterrupted lifespan of a Mermaid is... I'm not sure many survive that long."

Aria blushed a little bit "Um, well..." She started, obviously embarrassed about the subject, before she started to explain. The narrator spared the readers the details.
