Anteheroes

I got confused, really, from the out of character chat. It's all just a misunderstandiiiiing. My head isn't screwed on right.

On the other hand, perhaps you would like a more approachable and more boisterous merc on your team, @KatsaNovari. I had planned on making a past character that juxtaposes with Merc!Lucia prior to this mix-up. If fate and Kuroakuma permits, I can put her in, instead.

Let me just give my two cents on the matter.

I'm perfectly fine with a merc who only works for money. It'll probably cause arguments, but what's wrong with some tense relationships?

The only thing I see as odd is her age. 15? Really? Now I realize we're in a fantasy world so not everything is realistic, but it seems really unrealistic to have a fifteen y/o female who works only for gold, has no heart, extremely cold, etc. Plus, if she has the build of someone fifteen, if an imp or something jumps on her she's basically dead.

I think it could work, but I find the character backstory rather cheesy. Hope you don't get attacked! xD

I thought it would be funny to write a mage with no sixth sense, whatsoever. Arcanis gets pulled by 'the force', but he'll bloody well won't notice a damn thing.

@Kuroakuma:

If Obsidian and/or Xathrid turn out to be fun to write for me and fun to play against for you, I have ways in mind to make them survive, for a given value of life.
happy dutch freedom day

What about the Spartans?

The children, typically the boys, were taken from their mothers at the age of seven to begin military training (or what they refer to as Agoge, which lasts about 12 years, I believe). Their training was rigorous and fairly strict, even the girls had a similar program though not quite as bad. I believe it's fairly possible for a 15-year-old to be very much like how Sim's character is if her upbringing was as severe and the teachers/care givers treated them as harshly and strictly, and strong enough to take on a well fought opponent. Size/age doesn't always matter so long as the person knows their strengths and weaknesses and uses those to their advantage.

BUT! This doesn't mean they're anywhere near unstoppable or as capable as someone older than them, of course, especially if they themselves have fighting experience. Lucia will most likely (or should be) held back by her own age, whether mentally, physically, or both, which is always important to keep in mind for any character.

In short, it's fairly possible for there to be a 15-year-old like Lucia who's well trained and good enough to be hired as a merc, but it doesn't mean she's a bulky of a fighter who can take down anything in her path.

Just because children are in military training doesn't mean they can fight demons. Spartans didn't send their 7 year-olds to war, after all.

A better argument would be: 15 year olds in a medieval setting would already expected to be married and have multiple children. So 15 is not too young to do a dangerous job.

I asked a friend of mine who's super into history, who is also running a medieval rp somewhere on this site, on the character prior, since Lucia was meant for that RP before this one.

15 years old was the standard for knights around 800-1100. Tristan from Tristan and Isolde was a teenager, and Arthurian romances had teenagers as well. In the 15th century and forwards, older knighthood and more heavy armor became the norm, but mercs don't always follow trends. They aren't exactly uncommon at around the time.

Well, I never said they sent seven year olds out to war. I was just pointing out that's when their training started, and so by the time they reached a somewhat capable age, they'd most likely be able to do some damage. It's not like 15-year-olds are entirely defenseless, right?

While I do admit defeat about the knight age thing, you guys got me there, there is a difference between knighthood and being a icy, ruthless, and cold-blooded mercenary.

And about the Spartans... ( Correct me if I'm wrong, this is just from the top of my head. ) They were incredibly warlike and were the strongest military in Greece. Now, a boy might become a page or squire at seven ( I doubt it, but it's a possibility ) but they wouldn't get trained in the art of war until later.

That's just what I recall, I could be wrong. I don't really want to cause an argument so we could probably leave it at that.

Un deux trois!

The training of a Medieval knight was usually begun at the age of seven (7), and if it was claimed after twelve, the boy is fit only for a priest. When a young nobleboy made 13, he was expected to serve his master on battlefield as a valet. At 17, he would serve as a fully armed man-at-arms.
Yeah, a squire, maybe. Well, if it displeases you and irks you just that much, perhaps I can age her up by few years.

Ehhh, what's two years, riiiight? Just two more years of experience, and less whining. Possibly.

Right then, glad things could be settled rationally ^^

@simj22

I'm assuming Lucia can still be hired by Fern, then..? If so, I'll get back to making my post, and hopefully they can both meet the whole group before stuff goes down. Unless, of course, you had another plan in mind, in which case I'm all ears!

No, I'm good with yours, bruh. Go ahead and churn one out. I'll follow up, no problemo.

Hope that post was alright, somewhat sloppish ^^;

I was really trying to make it seemed not-so-rushed as well, but I don't think I accomplished that >_>

Oh well, first posts are almost always my worse and slowest.

Woo!

Admittedly, I actually had part of it written up already (the first paragraph I think) but stopped after the OOC-discussion about your character and I didn't want to post yet if you were going to make any significant changes to her or not.

I’ll get the post done soon-ish. It’s pretty late down here, and I’ve got stuff to do early in the morn. Don’t worry about it, I’ll churn one out soon as I get my brain cells moving.
