Anteheroes

Same first name as a present-day character, but otherwise very good. What is her reason for hunting the Demon King?
Money. Who's to say she won't even turn traitor if a higher price was reached?

Also, yeah, I noticed that, hence the reason why I decided to go with Hughes as the 'main' name.

Very grimdark. I know I'm not the GM, but...it's hard to imagine interacting with the character.
Oh, it's rather easy. Make a wrong move, she'll berate you for it. Pick some 'moralistic' choice that would probably cost the life of one of the heroes or some move that will ultimately cost them something (such as time), she'll make acidic remarks about how it will come back to bite your ass. Ask about her life, she'll regale you about the tales of the time when she had to pick out metal shards and clumps of flesh from the spikes of her morgenstern. It's all rather straightforwards, really.

@simj22: The problem I'm foreseeing is that her personality demands focus on her. Interaction is a two-way street, but interaction attempts with your character seem predominantly one-way, in your direction.

Let's take your examples.

*I pick some costly moralistic choice.

-She generates an acidic remark. Remind me again why we care about her opinion?

*Why would I ask about her life?

*I ask for her opinion.

-She delivers a scathing remark. Never talking to her again.

I think your character will quickly isolate herself and never be spoken to again.

But for a large part of the story you will be in relative isolation. A small party of adventurers in hostile territory. It is a situation that will make characters talk to each other even if they don't get along.

Companions don't have to be friends, they just have to have each other's back.

Just as LeviathanL said, b0ss. She doesn't have to be your best buddy. Not every adventuring group has a perfect coalition. There will be people who won't agree.

But he's right about loyality. You can't expect anyone to trust her with the current profile. But in this situation there will be no coin gained by betrayal, she would end up alone in the demon lands. So an argument can be made that as long as she gains nothing by betraying the group she can be trusted.

I'm not asking for perfect. I'm asking for workable. And I don't think she's workable. If I can't interact with her and can't trust her to have my back in a fight, what's left? She'll end up being just kind of...there. Nobody will talk to her and nobody will want to fight with her. I can't imagine making it work.

This situation can break the RP, or make it one of the best I've ever seen. Which it will be is up to you.

You might not want to fight with her, but I believe situations will kind of force people too. I mean you won't ask a mercenary to sit still during an attack because you don't fully trust her.

Not all betrayals involved going to the enemy. Abandonment is just as bad.

What I'm looking for in this character is a hint that she can develop past her flaws. I'm not seeing that.

I personally think abandonment is the least likely scenario. Noone can survive the demonlands alone, so she won't run of by herself or abandon a teammate to certain death. short-term risk in exchange for long-term safety.

There hasn't even been a IC post yet, you can't already make a good judgement on characterization.

Okay. I can see a case made for her loyalty.

More importantly, I can see a possible plotline for her. She's loyal for most of the story, but big bad has more money, so she joins his/her side. She later realizes that principles are more important than money and rejoins the good guys at the last minute.

So there's that.

But that stuff only occurs at the endgame. She needs something to do before then.

I have a big bad with money.

And right now she can shove the more idealistic and slow characters in survival mode.

You know who you are

It's not really too far off, your prediction of how she's going to progress. There is also the fact that serving the demon side wouldn't produce as much income as, say, being known as one of those who battled against the demon king, on the long run. One nets you possible profits at the end of the whole job, while the other feeds you through fame. It's long term privileges vs short term privileges. It's possible that this is one of the things that's currently driving her not to defect. As of yet.

@simj22

What are your plans for the character? I'm thinking maybe there's more to her than can be seen on her character app. I know my own are a bit sparse because I'm keeping stuff secret.

EDIT: Seems you beat me to the punch. But my question still kinda stands: I'm curious to know what kinds of plans you have for the mid-game.

That would have to remain to be seen.

I was hoping really, if she turned traitor, and then defected back like she was on a face-heel spinning door, there would be a chance for her to smirk and declare her reasoning for returning as "They don't have dental."

Just like to point out that joining the Demons would generate zero income since they don't have money, they just take things for free~

If you're talking about working with Obsidian and such, then I guess my prior statement is useless. In any case, I'll wait for Arcanus' reply before I post Jonathan getting into 'shut up let's get shit done' mode. ^.^

PS: Noticed Mercenary Lucia's sheet says present, is that a typo?

PPS: Who's 'He Who Walks Behind'? I'm interested already.

@simj22

@LeviathanL

Present? I don't see anything. Do you? There's absolutely nothing there. Absolutely nothing, ya hear? You saw nooooothing

I hope you don't mind someone else joining ^^;

I apologize if my app is a bit lengthy as well, I sometimes go a bit overboard when detailing my characters, haha. I only have a "past" character for now but have a "present" one in mind that I'll make an app for later if that's alright. They'll be a descendant of Fern's rather then a reincarnation, at least that's the plan unless something in the RP changes that (I tend not to put things set in stone so I'm open to any possibilities). Anyway, this descendant will have a hold of all of Fern's books, or at least the important ones, and will also aspire to be a scribe and spread the "true story" of the heroes, while also adventuring with others to document their travels.

I would like to note that this descendant will not be able to realize that the "present" heros are actually reincarnations of the past ones from said journals and books, though they may make some comparisons and insights, it'll all generally be theorized and not taken seriously. I hope this is alright..? ^^

@KatsaNovari

Hello, and welcome! ^^

Your character is fine, although he'll have to join the crew so he isn't immediately mauled by some sort of beast~

-Pauses for a moment-

Keeping hold of all of Fern's books and spreading the true story of the heroes, eh? Ufufufufu..~

I'm going to enjoy the Present thoroughly~

You've got me excited, now. ^^

Hrmm. So I was right there. Why'd you think the Present part of the sheet was a typo though?

You guys were talking about siding with the demons. If the Present thing wasn't a typo, it'd be a bit hard since there's practically no demons left and I'm assuming Obsidian would be dead.

Also, you guys mentioned the Demon King quite a bit; it's kinda dead in the Present, so...

My fevered-up brain could just be seriously derping though xD

@Kuroakuma

Woo! Awesome! 8D

Hehe, I'm glad that idea has piqued your interest, I thought it might be a little fun. The possibilities are endless!

@simj22

I was wondering, is your character a "past" character or "present"? Because if she's from the past, I was thinking we could both introduce our characters into the story by starting them as their own party. Like Ferdinand hired your character for protection reasons to head to the town where the heros are at? As I mentioned earlier, Fern isn't really a hero and so didn't get the "feeling" the rest of them did, but he has what he likes to describe as "a very keen intuition that takes him right where he needs to be whether he realizes it or not."

Aaaaahhh. I see. Well, I had assumed the demon king was still alive in present because they brought up the demon king, so I fucked up too. I didn't mention demons or anything in Merc!Lucia's sheet, though, so, psh, it's allll just a misunderstanding~

But well, now that she's shunted into the past, @KatsaNovari, let's do it!
