LOVE is left unexplained for most of the game, up until you reach Sans' judgement in the golden hall place. It's explained along with EXP. They're both acronyms - EXP stands for Execution Points, and LOVE stands for Level of Violence. As you kill monsters, you gain EXP. When your EXP reaches certain levels, your LOVE increases in turn. Both serve as a measure of how much pain and suffering one is capable of inflicting on others. As Sans put it: "as you kill, the easier it becomes to distance yourself, and the easier it gets to hurt others."


The maximum amount of LOVE someone can have is 20.
