Isabella noticed that he seemed more on the quiet side as he took a moment to reply to her. Naturally her head had tilted slightly in curiosity as he gestured to her mochi since the employee placed it with his order. Well more of a reason to interact with him right? When he mentioned oversized clothing, while not appropriate, they were still cozy. In fact he wasn't wrong about that in the slightest. She could snuggle in some baggy clothing every now and again if she so wished it. However when he introduced himself, her icy eyes widened as he revealed himself to be Na'lan, Duke of the East. Who knew this man looked so fine!? I would've- I would've never known since he was rumored to always be stuck at his home in the east. Then again his parents were beautiful people so no doubt their son would've grown to be so handsome. How come no one managed to snap a picture or something!? Well I look forward to inviting you over to my mansion. That's for sure.

When he pointed out her mochi, she spoke "Oh! I'm sorry." She took her gloves off from her hands and she grabbed her mochi. To put it simply she re-froze the icecream within the mochi before biting into it and smiling with a light pink to her cheeks as she took in the strawberry flavor. "These are so yummy." Bella said after she had swallowed and landed her gaze upon Na'lan again "Well your long hair is beautiful and it would be an honor to show you the ropes of maintaining long hair as you can tell I have a similar situation." Taking her other hand, she brought her silver strands around and exposed the long hair that draped behind her. It had to at least be butt-length. While yes it is hard to maintain especially when sleeping, she found easier ways to do it. "Suffering with knots and more is such a hassel that even a woman who is equipped with such hair struggles." She sighed before going in for another bite of her Mochi, but stopped "Did you want to sit down somewhere and we could talk there? I-If you don't mind. Otherwise I'll be more than glad to leave you be." Even though that is the last thing I would like to do. I gotta rope you in just like everyone else. She thought to herself.

The duchess did move over towards the door with grace as she didn't wan't to remain in the shop for much longer and had hoped that the Duke would at least follow her out the door. In her eyes, it seemed he was going to be the hardest to probably win over. Taking that bite of her mochi, her cheeks had once again turned pink from the sweetness as she loved it. If one thing made her truly happy...It was Strawberry Mochi.

Ah, another day of babysitting. For all his thoughts were sardonic, Geof had a smile on his face as he stayed back, watching as Princess Alice made herself known. To citizens and assassins alike. Still, he knew the country needed this. With the darkness spewing out from her sister, the people needed some light. And Princess Alice was the brightest of them all.

So as each citizen came close to her royal highness, taking advantage of her easy access, Geofridus studied the crowds, watching for the glint of a blade. He was distant enough to blend in with the rest of the guards spread throughout the festival. Would he be able to stop an attempt?

He needed to stop being so paranoid. It was unlikely for the Tyrant to attack in broad daylight like this. She may have been evil, but she also had her sister’s intelligence. She wanted to ruin Alice, not martyr her. Too many loved the younger woman. To lose her in front of them would just spread that feeling.

Still, Geof wouldn’t be lax in his job. He turned as he watched a child running their way, likely a thief from his desperate expression. Lady Amira’s wallet, obvious in its bright colors, was apparent in his hand. As was the lady herself calling out behind him. Making eye contact with the bailiff, he nodded, slipping through the crowd to intercept the boy. The princess would be safe under his momentary care. He winced as the lady-in-waiting ran into the princess, but knew the kind woman would not hold it against her. Instead, he focused on the boy.

Breathing in deep, he disappeared. Slipping through the crowds with an ease belying his experience, he shifted under he could strike. Grabbing the boy’s arm, he released his breath, seeming to appear out of nowhere.

Git off!” The boy struggled, but Geof was a knight, it was easy to pull the poorly clothed child against his armored body. He could tell fear was now growing. If the man was a normal guard, he’d take the thief into custody, thus under the Tyrant’s jurisdiction. He must have been quite desperate to risk such an obvious theft.

Stop.” His voice was sharp in the boy’s ear. “You’re lucky today. I’ll take you to my lady, Princess Alice.” He could feel the relief in the boy’s body, even if he obviously didn’t trust it. “You’ll return the purse--that belongs to a friend of hers” he added just to make the boy gulp, “Then speak with her.” Everyone knew of the princess’s kindness, but if it was her friend…she’d still be kind of course, but the boy needed a little fear to behave.

He waited until the boy nodded, before spinning him around to face him. He picked him up, frowning at the thinness of the boy, guiding his legs to wrap around his waist. It would keep others from assuming the child was in trouble. If they did, then word would get out that the Princess would forgive all misdeeds. As true as that likely was, he thought ruefully, it’d be best not to spread the notion.

He nodded to the few who had stared throughout the interaction. Let them assume he was a runaway child. Geof said nothing as he made his way back to the Princess. He was surprised to see another woman, who after a moment he placed as the Princess of the South. Renewing that friendship would be good for Alice. She needed friends of her station. “Your highnesses, my lady.” He bowed first, to his charge, then Princess Rue and finally Amira. As a knight he was below all of them.

I believe I have found who you were looking for.” He went to put the boy down, turning to look at him as he refused to let go. “It’s okay.” He said softly, “Return Lady Amira’s wallet and apologize, then the Princess would like to speak to you.

Finally, the boy relented and was standing on his own. He thrust the colorful wallet at the dark haired lady muttering, “Sorry,” before daring to look at the princess, ignoring the lady in pink. “Your highness.” He bowed awkwardly, not sure where to put his arms.

Princess Alice looked upon the young boy with kindness and understanding in her blue eyes. Though his actions were misguided, she could sense the desperation that drove him to such lengths.

"Young man, while you must make amends for the wrong you have committed this day, I know that punishment and condemnation will not set you on a righteous path," she spoke gently yet firmly. "Tell me, what circumstances led you to take that which did not belong to you?"

The boy lowered his head in shame. "Beggin' your pardon, Princess. My family's had no coin for food these past weeks. Me dad's not been able to work since his leg got crushed at the mill. I thought if I could nick something of value at the festival, I could buy some bread for my brothers and sisters."

Princess Alice's expression softened further. Though theft could not be excused, his motive was one born not of malice, but desperation.

"Your family shall not go hungry another day," she declared. Turning to Amira, she asked, "My friend, though this boy has wronged you, would you consent to me providing compensation on his behalf? So that no more harm comes from his actions this day."

The princess retrieved a sizable pouch of coins from the royal purse she carried. She pressed it into the boy's hands. "Take this to your family. And tell your father to seek out the royal physician, who will treat his injuries so he may work again."

The boy clutched the pouch, tears brimming in his eyes. "Bless you, Princess! Me family will pray for your kindness forevermore!"

As the boy scurried off, Princess Alice turned to her knight, Sir Geofridus, and gave him an appreciative smile. "I thank you, good sir, for apprehending the boy and bringing him before me. You handled the matter with care and discretion. Saerin is fortunate to have loyal protectors such as yourself."

Princess Alice turned to her other companions. "Justice is not always found in punishment, but in compassion and restoration. Though we must deter wrongs, we must also seek to cure desperation rather than simply condemn it. Now, shall we enjoy the remainder of this marvelous day?"

Inside her mind, Osric remarked, "A 'noble' gesture, or at least others would think so. But here I must question your judgment: should you give this amount to every peasant boy in the kingdom? If you truly do care, there must surely be methods of contributing more effective than this. Although I suppose they'd not be more effective for producing a feeling of warmth in your heart, if that is what you care about, in truth."

But Aderyn chimed in, "Do not let fear of not doing enough stop you from doing what your heart knows is right. With wisdom and discretion, kindness can uplift many and harm none."

Princess Alice nodded internally, taking both perspectives into consideration. For now, mercy and charity seemed the right path. But she would remain mindful, and seek always to temper emotion with wisdom.

Princess Alice turned to Amira, her expression kind and understanding. "My dear friend, I appreciate your thoughtfulness regarding our stations. However, if I may offer my personal opinion on the matter - I believe at times our kingdom's social hierarchies can be overly rigid. While tradition certainly has its place, I do not think it should bar those of different ranks from interacting in a friendly manner, if both so desire."

She clasped Amira's hands warmly. "I would be honored to have your company simply as a joyful festivalgoer, without regard to title or standing. If you are willing, I would love nothing more than to experience the wonders of this day alongside you and Princess Rue, as friends."

In Alice's mind, Osric remarked, "An admirable perspective, although potentially controversial if expressed too openly. Tradition persists partly for stability; drastically changing social norms risks undermining the kingdom's foundations. Perhaps keep this progressive thinking amongst only the most open-minded company."

But Aderyn responded gently, "While stability has value, flexibility and open-mindedness are virtues too. Rigid social barriers seed resentment and prevent society's growth. Foster connections between people of all walks, but prudently, planting seeds of change in welcoming soil."

Alice addressed them both mentally. "I will take both views into consideration. I will proceed cautiously, but I believe developing camaraderie across class lines can strengthen the kingdom, if nurtured wisely."

Amira Fadel

Amira was shocked to see someone had caught the boy so quickly. She was also slightly embarrassed at how hard it was for her to even get her fingers close to grasping him. She gently accepted the coin purse back and put it on her belt.

She curtsied to the knight. She often saw him at the princess’s side and she saw him as a loyal puppy in a way. She didn’t think it in a mean or cruel way just of him having a protective personality. “Thank you for returning my coin purse safe and sound, I’m sorry if I interrupted your duties in any way,”

Amira studied the boy and was reminded of her younger brother. He also was a bit of a mischief causer when they were children. She smiled at princess Alice “As long as he doesn’t use the money to make him self sick with sweets than I am pleased with your decision, your highness,”

She felt odd after she said the words, since when had she been forgiving? She had always been her lady’s spy, she eavesdropped, back stabbed, and spread rumors for her. She was never the forgiving young lady she was acting like now, she bit her nail on her left thumb. Maybe princess Alice always had this effect on people, she was like the sun, making other people feel lighter themselves

As princess Alice clasped her hands she felt a sense of relief. She’d lived her whole life caring about alliances, titles, and etiquette, maybe this was her chance to let go a bit. She might even have some fun along the way? Her smile grew even wider into her very unlady like grin that her mother had tried to scold out of her as a child.

Amira then realized she had to form a response to the princess Alice, “Your highness, I am honored by your gesture. I will join you in having a stupendous day. This is my favorite festival after all, I will try to show you only the best, as your friend,”

Lady Amira’s curtsy was met with a bow. “My duties are to the Princess’s safety and to prevent her any distress. She was safe under Alfred’s care.” He nodded to the bailiff. “I’m glad to help.

Geof watched the princess bestow her blessing on the child. He allowed himself a long blink, but did nothing more to show his annoyance. She gave the boy coins out of her own purse, sending him off without any thought of the plausibility of his words.

He was about to wave down a guard when she stopped and gave her thanks to him. He gave a boyish grin that made him look ten years younger. “Of course your highness.” He bowed slightly, following protocol, even as he spoke outside of it, “Let’s have that be the biggest excitement of the day,

He waited until she turned to her companions, before waving over the bailiff. “Send someone after him. He’ll need an escort to the physician, otherwise they’ll think he’s a thief.” The other man understood his true intention, for all his words were true. Make sure the boy isn’t a thief. Or well, a liar at the least.

Then he turned back to the group of ladies, keeping back so they would have some privacy.
