Magic Eight Ball
Double D really had overdone himself when he was determined to be in almost every committee in the school. He couldn’t help it, he just loved to learn and help others learn, that can’t be such a bad thing. Well, he guessed it could become bad when the person said has to plan a school dance. The amount of social skills that came with organising a dance was higher than he had previously thought. It wasn’t just facts, he had to know what people liked, encourage others to attend, create good gossip and rumours about the dance, which in his case was doomed from the start.

He had friends, Ed and Eddy, however their popularity was close to non existent. Other than them he was a bit of an outcast. Even being on the student council didn’t help his popularity, if anything it made it worse. Faces in toilet bowls and throws into the dumpster we’re a daily routine.

He tried to keep positive however, focusing on school to drown out the humiliation of his torment. But when he got voted onto the council for this dance he was lost. Facts and figures couldn’t help him this time.

He sighed to himself as he put the last label on his new pen he had received from his parents. The labelling never really went away from childhood along with other characteristics.

Kevin grew up a lot from who he was in the cul-da-sac a few years ago. Since he graduated middle school everything for him changed. He lives with just his mom and now on the other side of town. He was lucky enough to still go to the same school. He was still his jock self though. Captain of the football team. Star quarterback. Every girl wanted him. But he wasn’t interested. He only had eyes for one person.

He has been asked to the upcoming dance many times but constantly turned everyone down. He walked through the halls and watched as the dance committee decorated the walls and above the lockers. He wasn’t really focused until he saw the one person he always found himself being Interested in. Edd. He stared at him for a moment before disappearing into a classroom.

He had stopped all his bullying at the start of the school year. Hasn’t been near any of the kids he used to bully. But his so called friends still have. Kevin has seen them mess with Edd and his friends a few times and just kind of ignore it. Not wanting to start anything with them.

As he neatly put the pen into his pencil case and closed his locker ready for another lesson he perked up, ready and waiting to learn as he went into the classroom. This class happened to be right near his lockers, which was a lucky chance.

As he walked through the door way he saw the boys who bullied him on a daily basis near the back chatting away, probably about who invited who to the dance or who the next target was for garbage volleyball. He saw Kevin amongst the boys but didn’t think much about it as to him he’d always been a bully. He did notice however that lately he hadn’t participated as much in the bullying. He appreciated this gesture but still didn’t know what to think about him.

Edd always sat at the front of the classroom, one, because he loved to learn and two, because he was further away from them. Usually with the distance being quite so far and with the supervision of a teacher he was safe, for the time being. He began to take items out of his backpack and neatly lye them on the table in front of him, in the correct positions of course. Having an untidy desk to him was a position he never wanted to find himself in.

Edd sat through the class, answering almost every question in his normal above average vocabulary, as the teacher usually translated the answer into more understandable terms for the class. As soon as the bell rang he always knew to get out of there fast before he was left in the room alone with... them. But as he was packing his things away one of his binders had come undone and spread its contents all over the floor. He got to his knees quickly and went about picking up the pieces. Suddenly he saw a shoe stamp onto one of the pieces of paper. He slowly looked up and gulped.

“Oh boys, look. I think I spotted our newest volleyball. Don’t you agree?” One of the bullies said and asked the group that begun to form around Edd. The teacher had already left for his next class and or appointment.

Kevin watched Edd for most of the class but also paid attention to his friends as they talked about who they were going to the dance with and what they might do afterwards. Most of it was them talking about getting some afterwards but Kevin just rolled his eyes. When he was asked who he was going with he simply stated he wasn’t going at all. He honestly didn’t feel like going if he wasn’t with the person he wanted to go with. But he knew better then to ask so he just stayed quiet.

When the end of class came he knew what would happen. As soon as he saw Edd’s things drop on the floor he knew what was going to happen. He watched as his friends circled the boy on the floor and tried to decide what they wanted to do to him. Kevin bit the inside of his cheek and took a breath before nudging the one that started it and gave him a look. “Enough. We have practice and coach said if we are late again we will be on the bench.” He said in a rough voice. As the boys stared at him Kevin’s glare grew harder. “Go. Now. Outside.” Kevin said harshly and the boys scattered and shoved their way out the door. They knew better then to mess with Kevin when he gets serious.

After they were gone Kevin dropped down and helped Edd pick up his things and set them on the desk. He looked at the boy and gave him a soft smile before getting up and leaving the room to follow his team out to the field. When he got out there the coach was laying into them. He didn’t bother with yelling at Kevin because he was already going to change.

He tried not to notice the circle that was forming around him but it was hard. He knew what would happen if this continued and his hands shook nervously as he picked up the papers and put them back in the binder. Then he heard someone’s voice, he didn’t look up to find out who’s. He noticed that the voice was very serious and agitated, which was confusing to him since the voice was talking to the other boys and not himself.

Eventually he looked up and noticed all the boys were gone except for one, Kevin. He was confused and in turn gave him a confused look. When Kevin started picking up the papers the confusion continued. Even in his confusion he continued to pick up papers and neatly put them into the binder.

The next time he looked up he noticed a smile coming from the other boy. He didn’t know why but I feel not many but just two butterflies in is stomach fluttering. When Kevin had left he bit his lip and shook his head focusing on getting the papers Kevin had picked up and put them into the binder. When the binder was completely done he smiled and let out a sigh. He was safe, for the moment. He remembered back at the smile Kevin gave him and he blushed.

As he walked to his locker he noticed Ed and Eddy waiting for him there. As to not cause suspicion he shook his head and mindfully put himself in the present so the blush would go away.
