History
Grag lived with his tribe of hunter-gatherers in the land that would eventually become modern Britain. He was born of Grug, son of Gruk, and fathered Grig in turn.

This bloodline had the misfortune of being into an alternate timeline that existed as a trap for some Time Lords, a concept far beyond his comprehension. The primitive society was informed by a traveling medicine man, these advanced aliens were some kind of spirit, and the complex weapons used to try to get the renegades out of hiding were magic.
Grag ended up meeting one Time Lord during a late-night stroll, who called himself The Doctor. The traveler explained to the son of Grug that the man going around spreading these explanations himself fit the description of one of the renegade spirits, and that he had been captured a month earlier by soldiers sent by another Time Lord, The War Chief. With the help of the local early humans, The Doctor and The Monk ended up returning to each one's TARDIS and escaping.

After his adventure in his own time, The Doctor briefly kept him as a companion, joined shortly by the 21st century girl Elaine and the 53rd century Polish author Stanislaus Bala. Together, they fought the Ice Warriors, met V.T. Hamlin, and at the request of Elaine, returned to the late 90's for a spell.
Though fiercely loyal, it was decided by his other adventurers that Grag's culture wasn't entirely compatible with the morals of the group from centuries later. He was returned to his home shortly after.

With the assistance of the Monk, he was brought back to the Doctor's TARDIS as some kind of prank.
What he failed to realize is that the Doctor wasn't there.
