A Fantastic Mess
Nurse Tilly
Nurse Tilly had been listening intently to the Dean, while also keeping her eyes on the students. The announcements had
come to an end, and she was mentally preparing herself for the first part of the tour. Even though she did it every year,
she still got a little nervous. The students were now her responsibility, so she smiled and greeted them while stepping up
to the podium.
"Hello everyone! My name is Nurse Tilly, and I will be one of the
people here to help with the tour." She clapped her hands together once to relay her excitement for the tour. "Now,
lets get started." After taking a breath she gestured to the large room they were currently standing in.
"The auditorium is technically part of the main building, but because of the old doors being sealed shut after the renovations,
we now enter through these doors," She motioned to the ones everyone entered. "The auditorium will be used for when we have
assemblies, rallies, meetings, and other countless activities when we need the use of a large open space. It is usually
unlocked throughout the day but-" she paused, "this is not a hangout space. Let's head to the main building!" She turned on her heel, and began
walking to the entrance. The other staff that were there to help keep everyone together would make sure there would be no wandering. While
everyone followed her to the main building's back door, she began again.
"The main building houses quite a few different rooms. The most important being the nurses office, I do love visits!" She smiled as
she opened the door and led everyone towards the entryway, straight to the front set of doors. "Alright, the doors we just came through are the back doors to the building. They will always remain unlocked, no matter the time of day. The front entrance," she motioned to the set of heavy metal doors. "are locked by a set of key codes. They are only kept unlocked for special circumstances, today was one of those occasions. The reason we have them locked most
of the time is because we do have flight risks, and we also do not want anybody unwelcome into the school. This is for everybody's safety."
She paused to take a breath. "On the main floor we have the Deans office," She pointed over to her right, then pointed to the left. "Over down that hall
is the nurses office. And down the hallway we passed on our way here is the teachers offices and lounge. There are always staff present, even overnight.
As we do as stay here, in our own accommodated living areas. Each room has labels near the doors, there are also maps of the building layout,
just in case you feel lost." She motioned to the wall near the front doors, where two small maps hung.
"On the very west side of the building is the old gymnasium. This gym is from before the renovations, and is off limits. It is very old, and
falling apart. Under no circumstances are you permitted to enter, this is for your own safety. We had a student practically fall
through the floorboards when he decided to "explore". There was another gymnasium built during renovations, it's the smallest of the buildings.
So you have no need to visit the old one." She once again started to lead them away, down a hallway to their left and towards a
wide set of stairs.
"On the second floor is where you will have your classes. There are seven classrooms, a music room, and a small archive library. This
library is mostly used for reference books, text books, and studying. There is another library in the dorms building that is much more
interesting. But you will see that later." Once everyone was up the stairs she brought them to the middle of the huge hallway. "The way the
classrooms work here are a bit different from other schools. Instead of each being a specific class, they are meant to house the same students
throughout all of the subjects. Except for the science lab of course, due to health and safety reasons. You will each be assigned a home room, that
room is where you will spend most of your classes. Age is typically the factor to splitting everyone up. But we do have specific classrooms for
those who learn differently, or for those who need extra one-on-one time with the teachers. Anything can and will be accommodated,
there is no need for anyone to suffer academically." She gave a reassuring smile. "All classrooms will be locked when there isn't a
a teacher present. The music room however, is open to all of you at all times. As long as you follow the rules that is. The music room
and its instruments are a privilege." She gave everyone her no-nonsense look.
"The rules surrounding the instruments are as followed. Rule number one: the instruments are not to be taken out of the music room unless given
explicit permission to do so. Rule number two: you are to treat the instruments kindly. A broken drum is a sad drum, and you will not be allowed back
into the music room. The last rule, the most important rule," She made her face very serious, before smiling once again. "Is that you must have fun.".
.............
After leading the kids back downstairs, she found Dr. Stein. He was the one who was going to do the tour for the dorm building, and thus would
have the children handed off to him. "Good morning Doctor! I hope you weren't waiting too long down here," She gave him a quick smile. "They
are all yours now!"
