However, there was one assassin who seemed to overcome that fear that caused the others to run, a woman with a long blue ponytail. She called to Axel, a determined look breaking through the fear in her face. "Get the others out! I'll hold him off!" She shouted back, bringing her Teigu in front of herself, a pair of blue and red chakrams that spewed flame and ice. She ran towards the Demon General, prepared to sacrifice herself as she activated her Teigu's trump card. She ran towards Lemille, her eyes narrowed in determination as she leapt above the guards that tried to get in her way, knowing that the rest of Night Raid could easily handle a few nameless nobodies like them.
This is what she had been building up to with all her training, to save her team from a monster of the empire, and what better than the "Bloodless Behemoth" himself. Her Teigu was that of the Equinox Assassin: Tevalie, and it's Trump Card was to increase her own strength to turn the battle when she was specifically fighting a worthy opponent.
Lemille internally was panicking, seeing this very capable fighter flying towards him, a coward and a weakling, charging up what he presumed was her ultimate ability. He felt the fear welling up more and more in his chest, tears welling underneath his mask as he tried to do whatever he could to protect himself, as he began to scream in fear, as he usually did. He desperately reached for his sword, the accursed thing still refusing to leave it's sheath, his body struggling and shaking in the struggle to pull it out of it's sheath.
As for those outside of his perspective...
As the young woman of Night Raid leapt towards the "Eternal Blood Beast", he placed his foot forward, and let out the one sound dreaded anywhere that had heard of the man. The black and red aura exploded out from beneath his feet, The Behemoth's Rumble echoing out from his body, that berserker scream heard so many times before. His body trembling with power as he gripped the hilt of his blade, his red eyes staring coldly at the noble sacrifice the woman was making. As she descended towards him, entering his aura and activating her Trump Card... she was incinerated. The flames that spewed from her Imperial Arms consumed her own form, causing her to fall to the ground in a burning eruption of flame.
The guards closest to Lemille all paused at the scene, the shock of such an event causing some pause. Until they slowly put together what happened.
"W-Wait... she's wielding Tevalie... doesn't that thing's trump card make you stronger according to your opponent... That means..." The guard closest to the body realized, putting his hand on his head in shock. "H-Her body couldn't handle the power it tried to copy from him...."
So he picked up the chakrams, and with a small delay of thought, he threw it towards the retreating night raid, a gust of wind carrying the weapons to the running assassins. "The weapons were hers. She would want you to have them." He said, slowly looking up to the retreating assassins.
Before her lied Night Raid; a group seemingly led by a man with long dark hair and a gun which was undoubtedly an Imperial Arm. Satharial’s smile met her enemies as if she was encountering old friends. “Good evening, my apologies but I can’t allow you to leave just yet. This night still has so much to offer after all. Your color has pervaded the Empire much too profusely. It would be quite unfortunate for our Empire to be changed by such half baked ideals. Stay a while we can engage in something of a…debate.”
Her verbosity seemingly coming to an end, Satharial raises a single hand to the sky. A black spark materializes as the rings upon her fingers glow before a bolt of lightning launches into the air. Rather than shoot itself into the sky the bolt instead twists and snakes like a living being. Then it splits into several different lances of lightning striking several members of Night Raid. Curiously enough not a single one strikes the gun wielding man, only his compatriots. Satharial stares at her quarry who remained undamaged. Offering him an enigmatic smile. Just ahead she could see General Lemillied standing over his victim. It seemed the stories indeed held some truth. She looked forward to officially meeting him, but returned her attention to the Night Raid member before her.
There was so much she could do, yet she held back and she wanted him to know that. Infusing Black Lightning into her body she suddenly launched forward her speed a fraction of lightning but still incredibly beyond human means. “That Teigu, it is the ‘Karmic Armament’. Indeed, I know of you. The whispers from the battlefield reveal much to those who listen in between the ravings.” Satharial spoke to the man, known as Karma. The Adjudicator was off to his side, her words worming into his ears. In her hand was a Night Raid member she had incapacitated with her initial attack. Swiftly, with only the shining of her rings as a warning the man's skull burst open from her Black Lightning marring her face and cloak in blood. “How much hate can one man feel, I wonder? Can such a thing truly be quantified by that Teigu? The Teigu are of a higher order and yet man who wields them is so fickle; if that burning emotion gives way to a dark sinking well, will it still grant you the power you seek?” Her grin broke into a manic mocking smirk, “I’d very much like to see the answer you fashion from these dregs.”
Sage didn't know where things went so wrong, but there wasn't time to think about that right now. Not only were they severely outnumbered, but they were losing members left and right, and not to mention that the "King Of Monsters" was here, and he had already killed one of their members without even moving from his place, and had completely nullified the attack of their other friend. But, he couldn't help but respect the man, he didn't seem like the other monsters of the empire, especially when he threw Lian's Teigu back to them.
He grabbed them quickly, and followed after the other members of the squad, only for them to get cut off by a woman withhuge boobsher own Teigu and some weird speech about how Teigu were greater and how fickle humans were, as he quickly brought up his gauntleted hand. "Get back Mr. Karma!" He shouted, punching the ground with his gauntlet as the ground began to crack, thorned vines appearing and surging towards the woman. Sage didn't like violence, but he well understood it's need in this line of work, as he launched an attempt at binding the admittedly pretty but INCREDIBLY creepy woman.
He could hear people shouting and yelling ahead, and then... He heard Karma.
Extremely concerned, he decided to just set up the hatch. He tapped the bar counter a couple times to let the bartender know what he was planning on doing. With another swig, he dashed out the back door into an alleyway he wouldn't be seen in. He looked up, making sure no one on the rooftops could see him.
He made sure his utility belt was still around his waist before grabbing a hefty brick. He pulled out into a street adjacent to the one where the conflict was, and he swore he had heard Sage speak. Fucking wild, what is that kid doing out here???
He threw the brick with all his might, shotputting it clear above the building separating himself and his group in conflict with someone. He heard concrete moving and something like branches breaking, but he didn't care. Thanks to his ability to gauge distance, he was sure he wouldn't be hitting Karma or Sage. He then ran back into the side street he just came out of, and pulled a pipe from the wall like a lever before putting it back.
In the midst of random knickknacks that were normal to see in a small alleyway like this (random discarded bottles, crates, boxes, barrels, a trash can, etc.), a concrete hatch slid away to show a tunnel that led directly out of Palace City but not directly to the HQ, as that would be a stupid design. He then went back inside the bar and peeked out the small eye slat of the door to make sure his people got in safely, his hand on the lever that closed the hatch, waiting for the opportune time.
In fact, he might just start closing it as soon as he saw at least a couple people jump inside. He's hoping that those who were in conflict with that lady would know that brick was a signal, because who else in their group could lob a fucking brick over a house?
Ambushed, out numbered, in the heart of enemy territory and but chased by the empires worst. Night Raid was in trouble, they needed a distraction or something to keep the dogs of the empire of their back. Luckily for them Rioz was here, the beast was out and he had a plan.
As the Night Raid flees from the solider gaining on them a figure leaps like a grasshopper from the shadows.
"Gigigigigig! Great Cleave!"
Claws tougher than steel cleave through the centuries old buildings of the captial as he passes them. They fall and Rioz hopes it slows their progress or kill enough of them for Night Raid to escape. he doesn't dare stay stationary. Hoping hither and thither about the build sowing screaming chaos with kick, fist and claw!
"Gigigigigig! Death to imperial dogs!"
No one more would die tonight even if he had to take their place.
Even Cassidy had to admit, this was looking quite grim. Nevertheless, she did what she could, and Arden – well, Arden remained as stoic as he always did.
He had been holding the line, cutting through the soldiers in his way with his twin daggers when he saw the signal. Cassidy, of course, had gone down the escape hatch in just a few seconds. Arden moved to follow her, making it clear with the motion of his arms that his fellow Night Raid members were to follow him.
When they were both inside the tunnel, and moving, Cassidy was the first to speak. "Well, shit."
"Language," said Arden, absent-mindedly, though he did, in fact, agree with the spirit of what was said.
Cassidy rolled her eyes. "Well, this is a pretty big setback. Actually, I'd say it's more like a big florkin' disaster." She added, "See, I censored it for you," as an afterthought.
"The Unscratched Demon General" Lemille LemilliedLemille saw the chaos unfurling around him from the armored assassin jumping around, raising his hands up to his head to try and calm his nerves, though his stance began to look like he was charging up some kind of technique, as the black and red aura flowed out from under his body. He began to let out another "Behemoth Rumble", in other words a scream to deal with the stress as a soldier noticed what was "Happening", and called out to the rest of his comrades.
"WATCH OUT LADS! THE GENERAL'S USING HIS DEVILSPEED VANISH!" The soldier called out, bringing his blade up and bracing himself for the burst of air that usually accompanied this "famous technique".
When the smoke grenade clattered to Lemille's feet, he nearly cried out of happiness. He saw the small amount of smoke pouring out of the missing fuse, looking up to the one who had thrown it, Karma he thought the name was, and felt so elated he felt he needed to thank them SOMEHOW, so he looked towards them and lifted a hand to his face, flicking his hand forward to give a quick point to Karma, before lifting his foot and stomping on the smoke grenade, detonating it faster so he could get out of their faster than he would have been able to otherwise.
When the smoke around his position vanished... he was gone.
With the explosion of smoke, he quickly ran to the side, dipping into a nearby alleyway, trying to find a place to hide while the battle was going down. He felt around in the smoke, until he felt the handle of a door, smiling under his mask as he pushed it open quickly.
From within the bar that he had opened the door to, it would look like he was simply standing in the doorway as it opened before him, smoke pouring around him, mixing with his aura as he walked into the building. "Finally.... a place to hide during their escape..." He muttered while closing the door behind himself. Due to the noise of the wind and closing door, all those within the bar could hear him say was "Their Escape".
He saw the people within, looking around. "There are fugitives within the city. Remain inside." He said, looking around the room. He kept his talking to as little as possible, hoping to keep himself without being misconstrued, he just wanted to stay here for a little while. But he couldn't tell them he was just passing through or checking for fugitives, because his village's greatest taboo was to lie. But hopefully these people would believe that themselves and feel safe enough to not question him on that.
He was entirely unaware that he shouldn't want them to believe that, seeing as this bar was allied to night raid. Which made it look like his command to stay inside was as if he knew and didn't want them running away.
He walked forward, the earth vibrating with each step he took, until he walked towards the back, glancing back to see if there was any good hiding spots.
Sage VallianSage nodded at his commander, punching the ground once more to rise another pile of vines, the tendrils spiking up from the concrete as thorns sprouted from the sides of the vines, scraping the brick walls they passed by. Sage tried to use them to fill the alleyway enough that the woman hopefully couldn't get through, turning to Karma once it was done and running after him, knowing the escape route from the briefings they had previously.
He ran between the walls of the alleyway, turning the corner and seeing the secret hatch, giving a quick two finger salute as he dived in, looking behind himself and waiting near the entrance to make sure everyone could get through. When he had seen most people through, he walked alongside them, listening to the two siblings talk and looking confused. "We just lost countless friends, and you're concerned about her crass vocabulary reaction??" He said, confused at the priorities the boy seemed to hold, before looking down at his hands, still holding Lian's teigu, recalling how she burst into flame. She was such a kind woman, gone in an instant. Why did this have to happen? How did they get them like this?
Was the rebellion even worth it if those were the odds they were up against...?
Under The Behemoths Gaze
(OST for when Lemille enters the bar)
'I'm still upon the peak looking down at writhing insects.' Lightning crackled between her fingers as her Imperial Arm glowed brighter.
"That too, is a testament to life." Satharial swept out her hand as if swatting a fly. Shaping the Black Lightning in her hands into a wave that traveled along the ground, sweeping across the battlefield. Striking friend and foe alike violently shocking them though not powerful enough to burn them black till death like before.
If Axel had any suspicions about the nature of Sage, they were put to rest when he used his quick thinking to minimize the damage caused by the electric wave sweeping down the alleyway and directing it onto himself. Axel could do little more than simply watch as Sage absorbed all the damage in their stead. He cried out in pain and was ultimately left lying unconscious on the floor in a steaming pile. At the same time, Sage's other ploy to create a smoke cover worked, with whatever concoctive ball he threw combusting into a large cloud that worked to obscure the vision of the Empire forces. The downside was it also meant that Karma couldn't see his opposition - which meant that he was not only shooting blind but shooting blanks in this position. With how his karmic armament worked, his options were limited. There was a six-second cooldown for every time he pulled the trigger. At first, he thought it might be best to use Sage's efforts to save his those seconds to instead make their escape, but just as Karma approached to examine Sage's condition - his other allies re-entered the fray."N-No wonder you want these testaments to life... you're barely alive yourself..." He said, clutching his arm as he saw her wave a hand and casually send a wave of lightning down the alleyway, his eyes widening as he strained his arm to raise up the gauntlet, a tree rising from the ground with it's branches reaching out for the walls, trying to use it to take the bolts for himself. His limited range of use made things very difficult to deal with, seeing as he had a comparatively VERY weak piece of equipment to the woman before him. So trying to think quickly, he realized forming a dense ball in his hands of Cattail splice with a Dandelion, a thick ball of flame retardant powder. He saw the lightning drawing closer and closer, the tree buying just a bit of time as he put all his remaining strength into a throw of the ball. He knew it would be detected and destroyed by whatever defense she had, but he was counting on that.
Cattail was a very densely packed ball of nutrients and powder, and it was incredibly resistant to heat and burning particularly, and with the structure of a dandelion, when she struck it with her aura, it would explode on impact, creating a cloud to obscure her vision that would hopefully give him enough time to crawl to their escape, as with that last throw he fell to his knee, seeing the electricity flow down the alleyway, destroying the tree and flowing towards him. He closed his eyes, bracing for the onset of pain...
"G-GRAAAAAAAHHK!"
