Agents of SHIELD, The Initiative

Harambe is Love

Chicken Plucker
Jacob Ryder couldn't help but stare up in wonder at the monstrosity that was the Triskelion as he drove down the access road to the infamous building. The secrets that this building housed could probably topple many of the worlds governments several times over. The thought was both nerve-racking and exhilarating at the same time.

Pulling up to the checkpoint, he rolled down the window and pulled out his ID Badge for the guard. "Agent Jacob Ryder, here to see the Director," he said, trying his best to fight down the lump growing in his throat and butterflies dancing in his stomach.

The guard stared at Jacob briefly, taking note of his haphazard appearance. He didn't look like an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the slightest. In matter of fact he looked like he belonged behind the counter of a coffee shop as a barista. Jacob was by no means a scrawny man. But at the same time he definitely did not have a physique capable of selling the story that he was a member of a top secret government agency that literally dealt with aliens and metahumans.

After taking a quick glance at his clipboard, the guard gestured at his partner and raised the barrier. "Take the first right and park your vehicle in the marked garage. Follow the signs to the lobby and someone will direct you from there," the guard muttered as he handed Jacob back the ID Badge. "No detours."

Grabbing his badge and stuttering a quick thank you, Jacob did as the guard instructed and quickly found himself in the lobby. The building was abuzz with activity. Several visibly armed agents walked throughout the lobby with folders containing information of their current assignments. There was a certain tension in the way they walked. As if they were aware of threats that the public would never know of.

Being surrounded by suits and high profile individuals, Jacob felt keenly aware of how severely under dressed he was. A black shirt and grey hoodie with a simple pair of jeans seemed to be too informal for several of the agents in the lobby. They made sure Jacob was aware of their hostility by giving looks of contempt and disapproval.

Stopping by one of the receptionists he placed his ID Badge on the desk. "Agent Jacob Ryder. I have a meeting with Director Fury."

The receptionist gave him the same look as the others and looked at his badge. "Have a seat," she said as she handed back the badge and a visitor pass. "We'll call you up shortly."

As he took a seat in a far corner of the lobby, Jacob pulled out his smartphone and did his best to blend in and go unnoticed.

She had pulled up to the entrance of the building as she rolled down the back window and the hi-tech voice spoke out for her to state her business. "Agent Elizabeth Anderson. Here by the orders of Director Fury." She stated as she rolled up the window as the vehicle proceeded forward. She was happy to be here as she thought that this day would have never came to her. Elizabeth eyes peered towards the building before her as the vehicle came to a stop. She hesitated a moment as her heart was pounding through her chest right now. The driver looked back at her as she looked back at him. "It's not as nerve wrecking as it seems. Trust me." The driver tipped his hat and encouraged her to get out of the vehicle.

Elizabeth did so as she turned her head to see the vehicle that had brought here was driving off, farther and farther away. She let out a slight sigh then gulped heavily before she proceeded on inside and stopped by the receptionist desk, showing her badge.
"Hey there, here for..." The receptionist held up her index finger towards Elizabeth. "Let me guess, here for Director Fury?" Elizabeth nodded her head as the receptionist directed her where to go and where to sit.

"We'll call you both up momentarily." The receptionist said while Elizabeth gave her a confused look. 'Both of us?' She thought to herself while entering in further now as she saw someone else sitting there before her. Elizabeth thought she might've been late but if she was then it wouldn't be her fault, it'd be the driver's. She walked right on in with a smile and sat just a few short distance from the male that was there before her. Elizabeth offered him a small wave of greeting then leaned back in her seat and folded her legs, one over the other.

She sat there, clapping her hands together silently and humming a tune. If nervous could be showed upon a person, it was really smothering Elizabeth right about now. She tried her best not to be nervous but it was expected. She was getting recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. Something she has always dreamed about while she attended the academy.

After sitting there for a few more minutes, the doors finally opened and she stood immediately. A little bit too eagerly. A female came out and spoke sweetly with her hands in front of her in a greeting manner.
"Director Fury will see you now. Both of you." She eyed the male specimen that was trailing behind her as she waited until he was walking beside her now.

"I'm Elizabeth. What's your name?" She'd ask him while smiling as she looked back within his direction. "This is exciting, are you excited?" She said as the room that hosted the Director known as Nick Fury came into view and she stood there, frozen. Not from fear but from being very nervous as she was about to meet someone that was well talked about within the academy. The head honcho of everything that was associated with S.H.I.E.L.D.

Even though she thought to herself that she was ready, she truly wasn't. But as of now, she really had no choice.

He glanced quickly at the girl, Elizabeth, who was now walking beside him as they approached Fury's office. "Jacob Ryder," he said in response to her introduction as he put both his hands in his front pockets. "And I don't think excitement is an accurate description of what I'm feeling. Nervousness? Resignation maybe? Perhaps a little forbearance?" Jacob gave a short, shaky laugh. "Definitely not excitement."

Taking a deep breath, Jacob stepped up to the door and followed the secretary inside. He took a quick glance around the office, taking note of its appearance. Definitely not a bureaucrat's office. The best way to describe it would be spartan. It had the bare minimum of what it needed. The concrete walls and simple black leather furnishings did nothing to assuage the fear or nervousness gnawing at Jacob's gut.

Fury was standing behind his desk, looking at some papers on his desk as they walked in. A cellphone was in his hand and he had a look of impatience on his face. Most likely directed at the person on the other end of the line.

"For the last time Stark, the answer is no. The Initiative has been scrapped. Following Agent Romanoff's review you have been deemed unfit. Now if you don't mind, I have other matters to attend to." Fury didn't wait for an answer as he hung up his phone and tossed it on the desk in front of him.

"Have as seat," he said gesturing to the simple black chairs on the other side of his desk. Fury gave a quick nod to the secretary who vacated the room and closed the door behind her.

The click of the door closed reverberated around the room and Jacob walked forward, keeping his eyes on Fury. "Nick," he said simply.

"Jake," Fury replied in kind as he returned Jacob's gaze.

Elizabeth looked at Jacob with smug look as he had answered her question. 'Someone knows how to kill a mood.' She thought to herself as they turned another corner and was right in the office of Fury. He was standing behind his desk as he was also on the phone. Her eyes wandered around then heard Nick speak and jumped slightly. She wasn't really jumpy just hearing his voice in person made her a bit scared, she didn't even know why. After watching the impatient display from Fury, he had asked them to have a seat. Elizabeth didn't know if she wanted to sit down after that though followed suit along with Jacob.

Jacob introduced himself first as she smiled and stepped up towards Nick, extended her hand as he shook it.
"It's a pleasure to meet you." She said as Nick looked at her with a slight smile, as well. "Pleasure is all mine." With that being said, they all sat down as Nick's expression turned into a business, very serious one. His hands clasped together on top of the desk as he leaned forward and eyed them both. "I brought you guys here today because I've chosen you two as the next official recruits of S.H.I.E.L.D. Now, you won't get special privileges right away but you guys will be on the field team, doing missions and stuff. Sounds good? Good." Fury didn't even bother giving one of them a chance to respond.

Elizabeth looked over at Jacob and wondered to herself what made him so special. She was going to ask him whenever she got the chance. Elizabeth smiled when Fury said that they were the newest recruits of the classified agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D. She was going to respond to his question but he didn't even give them a chance to. Instead, she nodded her head and continued to look at him as he got up and went over to a drawer and handed them both a file.

She opened up hers and saw that it was her own file then looked over at Jacob, just to see if he had gotten his own file, as well. She was a little bit confused as Nick then sat down onto the top of his desk, looking at them both.
"Now, you two are going to one of our classified locations to meet the rest of the team, okay? Once there, get settled in and then you guys will be given more information on the mission. Alright?" Fury finished as he made the face like he was waiting for an answer this time around.

She nodded her head and stood up then saluted him with a smile.
"You won't be let down, Director Fury." She then shook his hand again before she turned heel and started to walk away. "Whoa. Whoa. Leaving a man behind already?" Fury pointed towards Jacob and Elizabeth laughed nervously, shaking her head. "No, of course not. He needs to learn how to keep up with me though." She teased towards Fury and Jacob before she waved for Jacob to follow her now.

Jacob stared at the woman with unconcealed annoyance. "What the hell do I look like? The class pet?"

Not waiting for an answer he turned to look at Fury one last time. "You and S.H.E.I.L.D. better keep your end of the bargain," Jacob said as he pointed his finger at Fury, trying and most likely failing at intimidating the director of the most powerful intelligence agency in the world. "You said I'd get unrestricted access. I didn't join your merry band of spies for the gym membership."

Fury simply stared at him before responding. "Yeah well, we'll see how you do holding up your end of the bargain first. Then we'll talk about it."

Rolling his eyes in frustration, Jacob tucked the file underneath his shoulder and started walking away. "Try and keep up," he muttered as he passed Elizabeth and broke out in a long stride.

Behind him he heard Fury yell out a jibe. "And you might want to put that free gym membership to use! Maybe you'll put some muscle on those bones Jake!"
