Futuristic After All, This Is Still Our World (Post-Apocalyptic RP, Open and Accepting!)

Moon Star

Mah stanky self.

Nobody knew what was happening...

And by the time they did, it was too late.

The event that ended it all, and at the same time started it all again, was known as the 'Evening Prayer', since it happened at night, and the main source of impact was at a church.

No one is really sure about what had truly happened, the legend has many versions, but the one that is closest to the truth goes the following way:

In a night of 2020, a solar eruption happens, the government was working on a massive nuclear missile, this eruption caused every electronic device on Earth to stop working, the government, fearing that they were being attacked, launched the missile, this missile destroyed the Troposphere and part of the Stratosphere, it also scorched and destroyed a big part of the land on Earth, 200 years later, your- No, OUR story begins, and this is the land where we were born, where we will live, grow up, hopefully rebuild, and finally die.

Our story, begins now.

(Please read the Overview before posting, and wait until I accept your character before starting to RP.)

Unnamed Town

Late Afternoon

Run. RunrunrunRUN.

Fire. Death. Destruction. Blood. So much blood.

Almost if not all buildings were on fire, most of them about to fall down. The Cafeteria was engulfed in flames. The place where his house once stood was now practically just ashes, people were dying, too many people, his friends, the friends of his friends, the families of the friends of his friends. It was all happening so fast he didn't get a proper chance to register it all at once, "Mom?" Derek said once he saw his mother standing by the gas tanks, trying to put out some of the fire
"Momma?" He said louder this time, hoping to catch her attention. Suddenly, he noticed a streak of fire spreading rapidly through the ground, heading right towards the gas tanks. "MOM!" He screamed, running towards her, but he was too far away, and too slow, his mother turned to look at him for a split-second before the fire reached the gas tanks and exploded behind his mother, engulfing her body in flames, disappearing in the yellow and orange hell. Derek was thrown backwards, he didn't get any significant physical injuries, but emotionally he was deeply scarred already, beginning to sob, he quickly crawled away, getting up to his feet and beginning to run away, in his path, he saw a burning house fall on a small boy, no older than six years old, weeping over his deceased father, Derek was shocked for a second, before a single thought crossed his mind.

'Connor'

Derek quickly deviated from his current path, and turned back the way to his town, tears still falling down his face, almost everyone was dead, with a few lucky ones sneaking away from the town, he ran into his house's shed, which was surprisingly not in flames, the shed was filled with shelves on the sides and a table on the center. On the corner of the room, there was his brother, hugging his Teddy Bear, that had more than a few patches, looking extremely mortified, trembling, hugging his Teddy Bear like there was no tomorrow, "Connor. Connor it's me. Derek." Derek reassured, kneeling in front of his younger brother "D-Derek? What's happening? Where's Momma?" Connor asked innocently, his sobbing having slowed down due to Derek appearing "She..." Derek started, feeling a pain in his chest, he gulped, deciding to sugar-coat the truth for once in his life "She's in a better place." Derek said, then he looked around quickly, he found a Black-and-White Backpack in one of the shelves, he took it, zipped it open, and took as much as he could from the shelves, water bottles, canned food, medical supplies, and even a few books, and stored them in the backpack, he also took two guns and some ammunition and stored them in the backpack as well, he zipped it closed then looked at Connor "Look, I need to go look for our aunt, I need you to take this Backpack back to our cave, y'know, the usual spot, remember?" Derek asked, Connor nodded furiously, Connor took the backpack, and put it on, he struggled with it since it was quite heavy, but managed to not fall down "I'll be there with you in one sec, okay? Now go." Derek said and Connor ran off, stumbling a bit on the way, but managing to stay steady. Little did Connor know that Derek was actually not planning on looking for their aunt.

It's not like Derek didn't care, he DID care, it's just that getting revenge was his highest priority at the moment. He knew that his father and his men were in town, they needed to pay for what they did, he quickly ran off to the Warehouse, he knew his father was also planning on raiding the town, so the logical place to go would be the Warehouse, he sneaked around the Warehouse, and entered it through the backdoor, he climbed up to the second floor, which was unfinished, so it had the center of the floor empty, allowing for anything to fall through to the main floor, he heard some chatter, and saw some figures walking through, he immediately recognized the leading figure, his father, he narrowed his eyes and frantically looked around, hoping to find something to take out his father with, he noticed a pile of supplies that was enclosed in a sack hanging up from the ceiling, just big enough for his father and his men to fit under, he noticed a lighter that was sticking out of a box and a pocket knife as well, he grabbed one of the metal pillars that was holding both floors up, and turned the lighter on, he cautiously reached over, and set one of the cloths on the sack on fire, which would later spread on to the rest of supplies, thankfully, Derek's father and his men were too busy with their conversation to notice the smoke beginning to fill the room, he put the lighter in his pocket, deciding to keep it, and then took the pocket knife and reached over even more, took hold of the sack, and began cutting the rope that was holding it up, he almost screamed when the fire burned his hand, though he managed to stay quiet, but he bit his lip and tears began rolling down his cheeks. In order to hurry up the process, he took hold of the sack with both of his hands, getting burned even more, his hands were beginning to look charred and red, already squeaking a bit, eventually, he finally managed to cut the rope completely, the sack filled with the pile of supplies fell down on Derek's father and his minions to their demise. However, Derek fell down as well, though thankfully he only fell next to the bag, he laid still for a few moments, before letting out a loud groan and opened his eyes.

The face of his now deceased father was staring at him, his face was lifeless, having died once the pile impacted on him, but his eyes were wide open, looking like the eyes of someone who had a lot of regrets, his mouth agape, leaking a bit of blood, and he was already turning pale, Derek got up as fast as he could, not taking his eyes off of his father, fearing that he may get up anytime, he limped away as fast as he could, leaning on the walls, however, he noticed a pair of beige leather gloves sticking out of a box, not really thinking, he took them quickly and stuffed them in his pocket, as well as a couple of bandages, ignoring the pain as best as he could.

Recovering a bit, he was beginning to pick up his pace and run away.

"Derek..."

Closer now, he was almost in the cave, where he would find his brother, and then figure out what to do next.

"Derek."

Almost there, he was beginning to get through the forest, passing a dried river in the way, thankfully the fire didn't seem like it was spreading through the forest.

"Derek...!"

Finally, he got to the area he knew the best, he took a few turns, following a very delicately placed set of leaves, got to a stone wall, he removed the leaf curtain that he had previously set in it a couple of years ago, and moved the (fake) wall to the side, he stepped in, and put the wall back in place, he quickened his walk, until he found the landscape of the destroyed city behind him, with Connor in front of it, looking at him with an annoyed expression.

"DEREK!"

"Huh!?" Derek jolted awake, falling off from his brown cardboard cut bed that was set in a table "You overslept, dummy!" Connor said, reprimanding Derek "Sorry... Is it scavenging time already?" Derek asked, getting up slowly "Mm-hmm!" Connor nodded, getting up, already dressed up and ready for scavenging and looting, he was wearing his white winter hoodie with gray stripes, a black sweater underneath, a pair of black jeans, some white winter boots, and a pair of white gloves, he was also holding his Teddy Bear as usual, 'Something about that Teddy Bear seems off... But if he likes it...' Derek thought, wondering why the Teddy Bear seemed so weird to him, Derek and Connor each owned the different sides of the cave. Derek owned the left side, and Connor the right side, so Derek gathered his clothes, which were laying neatly in a table, and went off to his left side, he took off his current clothes, changed his underwear, put on his black pants, a black turtleneck shirt with long sleeves, some socks, a pair of brown boots and his beige military jacket, which was buttoned up completely, giving him considerable warmth, he glanced down at his beige leather gloves, inclined to take them off to see what his hands looked like now, but he managed to resist the temptation, he also noticed a shard of broken glass on the floor, he glanced at himself for a second, rechecking his dark brown hair, fair skin and red mutated eyes, with some veins poking out on the corners of his eyes, he looked away, then glanced back at Connor, and he couldn't help but notice again his brother's pale skin, black hair and gray eyes "...I love you, you know that, right?" Derek said, Connor was all he had left, the only reason he was even still trying to survive was to protect Connor "I know, I love you too." Connor said, taking comfort in Derek's words, Connor knew that he was a burden to Derek, and that they wasted more supplies than needed because of him, but there wasn't much he could do about it, Derek went and grabbed his Black and White Backpack and began stuffing it with supplies they may need in their trip, food, water, a few medical supplies, a rope, a lighter and a knife, he also stuffed in a few clips of ammo on the sides, he took his SIG Pro Semi-Automatic Pistol and loaded it "Hey, do we really have to do this?" Connor suddenly asked, Derek sighed and looked at Connor with a face that said 'Really? This again?', Connor gulped "I-I know that we have to do this to survive, but..." Connor couldn't find a good reason to not go "Look, Conie, I know you don't want to do this, I don't want to either, but we have to, I'm not proud of it, but it's the way things are." Derek said, going back to managing and organizing the stuff on his backpack, and then, once he finished, he put the backpack on, he turned away and kneeled down, Connor climbed on Derek's back, holding to Derek's torso and hips with his legs and wrapped his arms around Derek's neck for increased stability, they both sighed, and walked towards the exit of the cave, to face the outside world once again.

Abandoned City

Early Afternoon

506015-artwork-cityscapes-destruction-jonasdero-new-york-city-post-apocalyptic-ruins-science-fiction-skyscrapers.jpg

The walk to the city was a bit over half-an-hour long, nearing the 45-minute mark, the city had a somewhat white tint to it, since it was late November, and nearing December, which would mark the beginning of the Acid Winter, and they needed to be ready for it, they needed all the supplies they could find, they needed to last at least three months, since that's usually how long the Acid Winter lasted "Why do we call it Acid Winter again?" Connor asked, white puffs of steam coming out from his mouth due to how cold it was "Well, the... What was it called? Troposphere? Was the layer of the atmosphere that handled all the weather, and it was destroyed when the Evening Prayer happened, the Stratosphere was also partially destroyed, and it absorbs the Sun's ultraviolet radiation by ozone, or, to put it in a more complex way, it absorbs the ozone molecules which in turn absorbs the electromagnetic radiation from the ultraviolet region..." Derek explained "..." "...Don't ask how it works, okay? I don't understand it either, just try not to think about it too much." Derek said, noticing Connor's confused silence "Yeah, but, why is it acid?" Connor asked again "Well, somehow, weather can still happen, but since the Stratosphere doesn't absord all of the ultraviolet radiation anymore, the molecules get mixed with the current weather, which results in either acid rain or acid snow, in this case, acid winter." Derek explained "...I'm freezing..." Connor said, momentarily letting go of Derek's neck to tug on his own hoodie, more steam came out of his mouth as he breathed "It's only going to get worse, and that's why we need to loot and scavenge all we can, because we won't be able to go on more scavenging during that time period..." Derek explained "Yeah, but, the only place that's not completely looted, is..." Connor said, not finishing the sentence as they arrived to the tallest building in the city, it was partially destroyed on the middle-upper area, but the lower area was relatively intact, they hadn't entered it before due to fear of what may be in there, living or dead, mutant or not.

"Well..." Derek started, as Connor climbed down from Derek's back, and hid behind him, holding his Teddy Bear tightly "Here we go, you remember what to do, right?" Derek asked, looking at Connor expectantly "Don't touch anything that looks suspicious, always stay behind you, and... And run away if you get attacked or you get mortally wounded..." Connor said, hoping none of the things he just listed would happen, Derek nodded approvingly, they both sighed, more steam coming out of their mouths, Derek held his gun up with his right hand, alert for anything, and with his left hand he opened the door, sneaking and at the same time venturing inside the building with Connor.

(Here we go! Introduce your character in any way or length you'd like, and if you want to, have them appear in the building and say/describe how they got there, have fun!)

"Wha-What's going on?" Gloria questioned as the ragged group surrounded them. She inched closer to her older brother, grabbing onto his arm for support.

"Just stay close to me, I'll keep you safe," her brother said, situating himself in front of her. Gloria trembled. She felt her heart thumping harder and faster as the gang grew closer. She knew her brother would protect her, just like she said, but she still couldn't help but feel intense fear. They had been approached by groups before, and he handled it well. He'll do it again, of course.

But this group looked...different. Something off was about them, but Gloria couldn't pinpoint why. She kept quiet, her eyes darting between each person as they came closer, trying to make out what it is that was so unnerving. Before they had any time to react, three men attacked her brother. She was thrown to the ground, her vision going fuzzy as her head violently thumped against the asphalt. She regained her composure quickly, sitting up and helplessly running after the group as they took off with her brother.

"No!"

"Stop!"

"Come back!"

She yelled, screamed, hollered until her voice grew hoarse. Her entire body shook. The echo of her desperate screams lingered in her ears. They took him, and she couldn't do anything about it. Never before had she been so defenseless, so lost. Her brother was her anchor, keeping her afloat in their endless journey. Now she was by herself. She shut her eyes tightly and wrapped her arms around her body.

----

Gloria's eyes shot open and she bolted upright. She had another nightmare. It felt as if every night she was being tormented, forced to relive that memory again and again and again. It would not go away, like her subconscious mind was punishing her for not saving her brother, not doing more to find him. Her chest heaved violently as she took a couple of breaths. Tears gathered in her eyes and threatened to spill over, but she wiped them away before they could fall. I have to be strong, she thought to herself. Imagine if he saw me like this, crying like a baby. He would probably find it hilarious.

The thought of her brother laughing brought a small smile to her face, which was enough to stop her shaking. She looked up at the sky and wondered what time it was. Nevertheless, she knew she had to keep moving. Living as an aimless wanderer in Arena meant she could not stay anywhere for very long.

As she stood up and brushed out her clothes, she tried to remember what sleeping on a bed felt like. It had been so long since she slept anywhere other than the concrete ground, as her body liked to remind her. Thankfully, her mutated side was not giving her too much trouble right now. She felt she could probably make it to her next destination: the tallest building in Arena. Rumor had that it was a great place for shelter and supplies, or it was a disastrous place where no one should ever go. It depended on who you talked to. It was only a block or so away, and she was anxious to see what it held for her.

Blood seeped from the bandit's mouth as he dragged his broken legs across the dry, cracked earth. The sound of a gunshot rang out, and the man's head exploded out the front as the bullet passed out of his forehead and dug into the ground.

Roland squinted his eyes as he looked at the freshly shot corpse from a mile away, and turned back to the leader of group. The barrel of his 1817 colt revolver in his mouth.

"Now when I take this piece outta yer mouth, I want you to spill everything you know on The Man in Black. Are we understood?"

The man nodded frantically. Roland glared at him, and pulled it out.

"I don't know where he is right now-" Roland pulled back the hammer. "-but Jaggerjaw does! He's one of Black's lieutenants! Please don't kill me.. I only do this because I have a kid, and I need to work!" Tears were streaming down the young man's face and desperation filled his voice. Roland put the gun back in his mouth and got dangerously close to his face.

"Yer gonna go home, grab yer kid, grab yer shit, and head back to Arena. Find an honest job, make yer son proud. And if I ever see yer sorry ass even think about doin something wrong, I will make you wish you never left yer mother's womb." The Gunslinger withdrew his pistol, and stepped away. He picked up a leather trench coat from one of the bandits who was shot through the neck eight times, put it on, and lit a cigar. As the man scrambled to his feet, Roland looked back at him.

"And if yer boss asks where the other 30 men that came with you are, tell 'm that you met The Gunslinger. They won't bother you no more." Roland took an ear bud from his pocket, and put it in his ear, as he walked towards Arena...

Ette stuffed his face some sort of canned vegetable that was probably expired. For a brief moment he regretted eating it all at once, but then he remembered that cans are too bulky to carry around anyway, and then resumed his feast.

He’d been drifting around the Arena for close to two months now. He tried to find at least a general area to stay in, but nothing really suited him. Back in Doc’sey, there was so little space that was actually livable, so the cities were densely packed. It was strange to have a place with virtually no life. He was used to crowds, and without people nearby, he felt almost naked. And not in a fun way.

But he didn’t have many options. He wasn’t going to go back to Doc’sey, not a chance. One slip up had made him change what he called normal.

He had spent about two days in this abandoned town. After following a group of people around the wasteland, he decided to take a stop in the closest city. It wasn’t much different than any others in the Arena, partially destroyed buildings, maybe some people sneaking around. Naturally he had gravitated to the tallest building in the city. Everywhere else had been picked clean--there was nothing of value in any of the smaller buildings. He’d spent a night inside, on the first level of course. He had no idea what could be in there with him, so he never ventured to the upper levels. Even on the ground floor, he felt a little uneasy, and hardly slept. Still, it was better than being unprotected from the cold.

He had found plenty of useful items, this place was relatively untouched. He took anything he thought he could use or trade off. So far, his bag was filled with some broken tech that someone would probably want, some definitely stale food, and a couple things that looked expensive, even though he didn’t know exactly what they were.

Ette paused with his makeshift fork halfway to his mouth. He heard footsteps. Someone else was here. He quickly ran into the next room. He was so glad his shoes didn’t make much sound. He left the door wide open, and stood between it and the wall. If someone came in, they wouldn’t see him, and he was confident that he could dart out before they could even notice.

It was just a normal day for Casey and Shay. Shay was doing some school work from school and Casey was making beans and corn bread for supper.

"Casey, I'm hungry... When will the food be done?" Shay whines. Casey rolls her eyes and looks and Shay with a glare. "When it's finished. Know pipe down and finish your homework." Shay pouts. "But it's hard!" Casey is about to get on to Shay when a knock comes from the door. When she opens the door the sheriff and another man was there. "May I help you?" Casey asks. He nods and hands her a piece of paper. "This home is property of government you are to be moved out in 48 hours." Casey looks at the paper then back at the sheriff. "But my dad..." "Your father has been missing for sometime know and doesn't own this land. I'm sorry there is nothing I can do." Casey nods and slowly shuts the door.

"Casey is everything alright?" Casey looks at her little sister and sighs. She shrinks to the floor a begins to cry. Shay quickly runs over to comfort her. "Don't worry sissy, everything going to be okay." Casey continues crying hoping her sister was right.

November 21st, 2220

Casey held Shay hand tightly as the walked in the Arena. Shay begged for her to let go, but Casey just held tighter. The had finely made it, but this was just the start of their new life. They were heading towards a huge skyscraper hoping to find shelter or maybe some help. "Casey, are we almost there?" She nods. She could see the tall building in the distance. "Just a few more blocks." The continued walking when a loud growl came from a dark alley. Casey quickly takes out her pistol and puts Shay behind. A three huge mutant dogs emerge from the darkness. "Shay when I shoot run." she wispers. Casey points the gun at one of the dogs and without hesitation shoots it. The dog falls bringing the other two to life Shay had already taken off and Casey quickly followed behind her. The dogs where fast but they were much faster. Just a few more block. Casey thought. Suddenly Shay disappeared from Casey's side. She had fell and the dogs were almost to her. Casey ran in front of her shielding her with her body. She tries to shoot one of the dogs but misses and leaps on top of her. It scratches her face, but she able to raise her hand and shoot the dog. Shay screams as the dog gets closer to her. She shoots the gun but is out. Casey runs and leaps on the dog yelling and screaming for Shay to run. Casey and the dog battle as the creature claws at her arm, legs, and back. Casey cries with pain. Is this how I die? Suddenly, the dog goes limp and falls beside her. Casey looks at the dogs then at her sister who held a bloody dagger.

"In here." Casey said as she limps into the building. Shay carefully sets Casey down against a wall. "Your a mess and you used the last of the supplies to help my cuts last week. I'll go fine help." Casey grabs her arm. "No, to dangerous will just improvise. Get me my white t-shirt." Shay reaches into the bag and hands her the shirt. Casey ties the shirt around her right calf muscle. "This is the most injured. "This will stop the bleeding for a while." She stands her legs shacking. "Casey you need to rest!" "We need to get you some food and water!" She starts to walk then falls down hitting her head. "CASEY!!!" Her vision goes hazy the she let's out a cry of pure pain.

"You crap out radio" Gabriel yelled hitting the radio again. The small wooden shack that Gabriel called home creaked as he got out of bed. The radio had been playing up again, going of a very unreasonable time. The house wasn't the only thing groaning as the five empty bottles on the side indicated. The hangovers have gotten better over the years. "Lets see what we have for breakfast" Gabriel said searching the shack. "Ah a rare wasteland delicacy, a 220 year old bean can" Gabriel joked before putting the can on the boil. While he waited for breakfast, Gabriel had look outside. He had made this Shack on the outskirts of V'yond. It was were most his trading was done. Old world tech sells for alot as it can be re-purposed for some much. It is also the place that sells vehicles or rather parts for them. The scavenger looked over the old rusted car. Engine on it didn't work, wheels fall off and the air con never turns off. Going back inside he fate his luxury breakfast, Gabriel decide that he had to go scavenger. It had been about a week or two since he did it last and the food and booze was running dry. Gearing up he headed out.

November 21st, 2220

"Ah arena what a load of crap" Gabriel muttered as he wandered in the dried up barren wasteland. Well barren isn't really the right word, he had the mutated animals for company. Take the giant beetle that tried to make friends by charging at Gabriel to which he returned the favour by shooting it in the back with his pistol. Still waste not want no and beetle meat isn't really that bad once you get used to it. The scavenger decide to head toward the desolate destroyed buildings, good scavenge is normally in those locations. Still before he headed out he decide to see about a broken down car that is nearby. "It might be nothing it might be something, scavenging in a nutshell" Gabriel muttered sardonically as he brought his hat down to keep the sun out of his eyes or rather goggles.

"Alright, Kiddo, today I'm gonna teach you how to fix generator." The older man ruffled his daughter's hair and started to get to work, explaining every tool and their name, use, and so on. After each major step, he quizzed her on what she learned that day. From the tools, the directions, and many rules of being a mechanic. This was like school for Corria and she loved every moment of it. The sight of oil and dirt and whatever got on these machines was home. The scent of gas and fuel was perfume to her, but what she loved most of all was the time she spent with her father. His welcoming voice giving her all the attention in the world, his hardworking appearance which always was a little dirty no matter how hard he tried to clean himself, and his gentle hand ruffling her head- a place only he could touch. Every moment was Heaven, but as always, it was cut short by the same person.

"Where is my dinner!" The female voice screamed in the nearby house, causing Corria's father to give her a worried glance as he gets up and follows the voice, heeding her every command. Corria seethed with hate but took a deep breath and continued working. It was the only way she could calm herself, so she focused on the task at hand and in no time, got the generator working herself, whirring to life.

Now...

"Hey! When is my generator going to be fixed?!" An angry customer demanded from the devil-headed girl. "I told you already, I need to find more parts if I can fix it. It'll be done tomorrow." Corria retorted with gritted teeth. Everyday, it was the same problem: not enough scraps. "You said that yesterday and the day before, girl! If this thing isn't fixed tomorrow, I'm taking back my money!" They didn't allow Corria another word as they stormed off and away into the busy streets. The girl sighed and pinched her fingers to the bottom of her forehead. "I can't find any parts in the usual places. The only other place is..." She mentally debates with herself about which option is worse and decided to pack up her necessities and head to the ominous tower.

Avoiding the crowds, Corria was a natural at taking back roads and rooftops, leaving no witnesses of her existence. Luckily, the crowds waned as she got closer to her destination and soon, she could walk out in the open without any wandering eyes following her. Always keeping a hand near her custom-made pistol, Corria cautiously made her way into the building, hoping to get in and out as fast as she could. She wasn't the best aim and she really hoped that she wouldn't need to use it anyway. She was limited on bullets, so every shot count.

Shay

"Casey, Casey... wake up." She feels for a pulse and with relief she's still breathing. Blood spilled slowly everywhere, soon she would bleed out. Shay gags at the sight of the blood, but she knows she needs to get Casey help. "I can't move her, so Ill just have to go on my own. I won't go far, I promise." Shay walks around a tall pile of rubble searching for anything that might help. "Hello, is anyone here." Shay yelled. "My sister badly hurt and needs medical help." Shay gets far enough away that now she cant see Casey. All the good supplies was deeper into the buildings. If she continued it would risk her and Casey's life. Shacking off the fear she continued into the unfamiliar building.

Casey

"Casey wake up, this is no time to sleep. Your sister needs you. How can you be so dumb going and leaving her. Your useless, someone older and more mature should care for her. Your just a naïve little girl. USLESS!!!" Casey groans as pain covers her body again. "I'm not useless. I can protect my sister." She yells again in pain. "How can you help your sister if you can't help yourself!" Casey eyes roll back as she sink into complete darkness.

Though she wanted to make it to the building in one trip, Gloria had to stop. You're right there! Can't you just go a little further?! she thought to herself, grimacing as the rested on the side of the building. She took a couple of long breaths, trying to find her ground. Her mutation was especially dizzying today. How was she going to survive the coming months if she could hardly make it 50 feet? She leaned with her back against the hard wall and looked up at the sky.

Just a little after she zoned off, Gloria heard noise coming from the other side of the wall. She situated herself, putting her right ear against the wall, to get a better listen. She heard what she thought were girls' voices. They sounded so young, where were their parents? She heard more noises, like the scurrying of feet, and multiple footsteps. There were people in there--more than she assumed there would be. This was not good. She didn't want any trouble with whoever--or whatever--was in there, but she was in pain and needed a quick breather. So she stayed, ear on the wall, eyes focused ahead on nothing in particular, trying to make out what was inside.

Abandoned City

Tallest Building

Early Afternoon

10 Days Until Acid Winter

The inside of the building wasn't exactly a pleasant place to look at or to be in, it was relatively dark, with the only few bits of lighting coming from flickering, semi-broken light bulbs that looked like they would explode at any moment, and some windows with broken glass, Derek's eyes wandered around the room, taking in the surroundings, he noticed some markings on the wall, as well as some splatters of... something, he suspected it was dried blood, but then, he noticed that on the floor there was an opened can of expired vegetables, what surprised him, is that it seemed like it had only been opened recently, however, when he was about to reach forward to examine it closer...

"CASEY!"

Connor's head immediately shot up as soon as the scream reached his ears, frantically searching around for the source of the sound "Did you hear that!?" Connor exclaimed "Mm-hmm." Derek said non-chalantly, examining some of the other unopened cans, storing the ones he deemed safe to eat on his backpack, and putting back the ones that he didn't think were safe to eat "W-we need to go and help whoever screamed!" Connor said "Why?" Derek asked, not looking away from the cans "What do you mean 'Why'!? They could be in trouble! Or hurt! Or-" "That's none of our business." Derek interrupted Connor, finally looking at him now that he seemed to be done with the cans, Connor just blinked "Huh...?" Connor said in disbelief "How can you say that!?" Connor then exclaimed, now that the initial shock of his brother's attitude was gone "Whatever their deal is, it has nothing to do with us, it doesn't concern us, so I say drop it unless you wanna waste your time." Derek said coldly, definetely a deviation from his previous gentle and warm attitude towards Connor "But that's not fair-" "Life isn't fair!" Derek snapped "Is it fair that our family- our mother died a year ago? No, is it fair that our town, the only real home we've ever had was burnt down to ashes? No, is it fair that I have no reason to live other than to protect you? FUCKING NO!" Tears were now beginning to fall down Derek's cheeks, his eyes becoming more swollen and red, not because of his mutation, but because of his emotional scars "Look Cony, I love you, like I said, you're the reason I'm alive, I exist to protect you, but you need to realize that I won't be able to protect you IF YOU DON'T REALIZE THAT THE WORLD DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY!" Derek yelled, the room fell in an awkward and uncomfortable silence, before Connor turned around and ran away "Connor! Wait!" Derek shouted to no avail "Ugh! Damnit! Why do I have to fuck everything up!?" Derek said to himself, before he decided to climb up to the second floor.

Connor ran through the streets, he needed to get somewhere, anywhere, as long as it wasn't near his brother, it's not like he wasn't grateful about what Derek had done for him, he was, it's just that he needed to be alone right now, not noticing the mutated women on said streets, but then he remembered the scream, he looked around for the source of the sound, he entered a nearby building, and then he stopped dead on tracks when he found a girl bleeding out on the floor, he noticed she was still breathing "A-are you okay? I'm a doctor, I can help." Connor said, no response from the girl, he took a few medical supplies from his pockets that he kept for emergencies, and then went on to treat the girl as best as he could, stopping most of the bleeding and giving her some pain killers to, well, stop the pain.

"What?! No dammit! N-" the suit unbuckled behind him and fell on the sand, "Dammit L12A, I was perfectly fine in that damn thing, and now I have to clean it!" Jack shouted and kicked the helmet, "Piece of crap! UGH!" he picked it up, and looked around, and saw an abandon building, rusted and dirty, he walked to it and laid the suit down on a counter, and took his cleaner and turned it on, it blew the sand out, and cleaned the helmet of sweat and then he took a seat, and sobbed a bit, "Too damn hot to move, too damn hot to wear that thing, now what do I do?" he said, then he spotted some tools in a locker near by, he got up and walked to it. He opened the door when a huge rat jumped out and ran at him, the thing was the width of his gun, and as tall as his ankle, "Ah!" he shouted and shot the thing in the head, he was scared to high hell from that thing, he's never fought one like that alone, or without his suit, and he's seen what one can do to his brothers and sisters if the rat can get past the outer layer of the suit. "Well...I got dinner, that's for sure..." he said and took his knife out and skinned it, then started a fire, low enough to cook it slowly, since it was still a bit bright out, so while the rat was cooking, he went to work on the A/C system in the suit.

The car had welded some useful parts and a packet of something. "Ints, white tablets, hmmm" Gabriel muttered as he examine the packet. Eating one of the pills Gabriel mouth felt an odd sensation. At first he thought it might be a allergic reaction or some sort of poison, then smelling his breath an even odd thing occurred. It smelt nice. "Weird" Gabriel said as he put away the odd tablets. Maybe they will be useful later, sell them to a trader, the richer folk in the city always like appearing nice. A scavenger really can't be doing with that, practicability over style. Still Gabriel did like his hat. Such as right now. It helps fend of the cold.

Inner City, approaching the Tallest Building

The cold is setting in. This was what the scavenger's outfits were built for. It could handle the warm by functioning with only one tatty layer and the hat to keep the sun off. The cold could be handled by piling on tatty layers and using the big hat to keep the head warm. Enough about tat and hat. Gabriel main idea would be to go to the tallest building. Might hold some good stuff plus he can get a good view of the surroundings. On the way there he saw a fairly young looking man running across the street. "Not my business" Gabriel said heading up the building. The scavenger created a light ball from his hands. Might help him see and provide some warmth. For now he would just starting searching through the room of whatever this was 200 years ago.

Or hurt! Or-" "That's none of our business." Derek interrupted Connor, finally looking at him now that he seemed to be done with the cans, Connor just blinked "Huh...?" Connor said in disbelief "How can you say that!?" Connor then exclaimed, now that the initial shock of his brother's attitude was gone "Whatever their deal is, it has nothing to do with us, it doesn't concern us, so I say drop it unless you wanna waste your time." Casey slowly opens her eyes. First thing she feels is pain, but the thought quickly disappears. She turns her head slowly looking for Shay, but she wasn't in sight. "Shay,Shay!" she chokes. The she notices someone kneeling beside her, a boy, and he was tending to her wounds. "Please you need to find my sister. She was stupid and ran off to find help... I shouldn't have gotten myself hurt. Please she..." She stop mid-sentence and rolls over onto her side and begins to puck up blood.

Shay

Shay looks around trying find something or someone to help. She was no doctor but if she just found enough supplies she might be able to keep her sister patched up until they got to town. She turns a corner and bumps into a soft object, she falls to the floor with a thud. She looks up and see a tall woman. At first she was to frightened to say any thing, then it dawned on her. "Please my sister need help. She's badly hurt. We can pay you, just please I..." Tears form in her eyes afraid the woman might not help or it was to late to save her sister.

Eventually, Gloria talked herself into finally going into the building. She went in through a side entrance. Though, judging from the thin boards stabled to the opening, it wasn't much of an entrance. She didn't know whether it was to keep people out, or to keep something in. She involuntarily shuddered.
She smelt something burning. It smelt like some type of meat. Not very appetizing, but it was enough to make her mouth water and cause her stomach to growl. She put a hand on one of the boards, and with a decent yank, ripped it off of the wall. Now she could see into the building. It was dark, further ahead a flame light up the opposite side of the wall. Warmth. She craved a decent campfire, and the smell of the meat grew more powerful. She ripped another board off of the wall, creating a hole just big enough for her to get inside.

Carefully, she made her way into the building and hesitantly edged herself closer to the fire. Then, she noticed that there was someone at the fire and became ever more wary. Was he hostile? She wasn't sure, so she made herself as non-threatening as possible. She put her hands in full view to display her lack of a weapon. Cautiously stepping closer until her face was barely illuminated by the light, she said to the stranger "Um, hello." The man appeared to be working on something. "Mind if I sit for a second? I need to get out of the cold."

I should probably go in, Gloria thought to herself. I can't be out here in the open for too long like this, I'll be killed. She spent a few more minutes trying to psych herself up, to no avail.

Her thoughts were interrupted when she felt something bump into her, knocking her off balance. "Hey, what do you think you're--" she started, but shut her mouth when she saw she was talking to a young girl. Gloria stayed quiet as the girl pleaded her case, but she was skeptical. She turned her head and eyed the girl suspiciously. Could this be some kind of trick? Bandits were known to lure in Good Samaritans to their doom. However, the girl sounded desperate. Even her eyes were watering--with real tears, it seemed. She took a moment before answering, trying to weigh her options. What if this was a trap? Then again, what if this girl actually needed help? What if her sister was actually in trouble? Gloria wouldn't be able to live with herself, knowing she could have helped these two people but refusing to. What would her brother do?

Eventually, she told her, "Alright, I'll help you. Take me to your sister, I'll see what I can do."

'Stupid, stupidstupidSTUPID' Derek thought, deeply regretting what he had done, worried sick about Connor, he looked around, taking in even more of his surroundings, there were a couple of desks on the walls, a broken window, and a wooden shelf next to the door, some flies were flying around, to which Derek waved away, he walked over to the desks, and opened the drawers, he noticed some bandages that weren't too dirty, and some pain killers that miraculously weren't expired so he took them, as well as a couple of books and... some documents? 'What are these?' Derek thought, as he examined the documents, one document said 'Morphogenetic Field Theory', the second document said 'Schrödinger's Cat', the third document said 'Paradoxes, Time Travel and Alternate Universes', the fourth and final document said 'Mass Murder Reports', Derek thought these looked very interesting, so he stored them in his backpack along with the bandages and pain killers, he was going to go look somewhere else, when suddenly, he heard the door open, someone was coming in, he was paralyzed for a split-second, before crouching down a bit, and slowly, moving towards the bottom of the desk so he could hide, when suddenly, he heard a low growl behind him...

'Oh, crap.' Derek thought before readying his pistol and slowly looking behind him, not exactly ready to face whatever was behind him.

Healing and patching the girl took about an hour, at one time the girl sprung to life and told Connor to search for her sister, he guessed she was just being delirious, so he just hushed her and she fell asleep/passed out again, now she was completely healed, just needing to rest so she doesn't reopen her wounds, guessing that Derek is probably worried sick about him, Connor stood up, and sneaked out of the building, but then, he noticed a figure passing by that was wearing a large red poncho, Connor immediately thought of one of those western heroes that he had read about so much in old comic books, thinking that this figure might be an actual hero, Connor decided to walk behind that figure, and poked him in the back "Excuse me, sir?" Connor asked "Are you a hero from a comic book?" He asked innocently.

Casey sat up her head pounding. She looks around wondering what had happened. Then it dawned on her. The boy who had patched her up stood just outside talking to a man. She appreciated the boys help, but she had no time to thank him. Her sister was out there alone and needed help. She stood quietly hoping the two wouldn't notice. She starts to walk again, but her body was still weak and she feel crashing into a set of shelves. "Ow!" she said rubbing her head. "Darn it! I cant even walk right. "She slowly tries to pick herself back up not giving up on her sister.

This had been a fairly profitable endeavour. Painkillers-even the out of date once could be made into 'other uses'. A Conan the Barbarian comic - "Never was big on the superhero fellas but Conan yeah, hell the book even teach you a thing or two about weaponry" Gabriel muttered to himself, he said it kept him sane. Others said it made him look insane. There was some food as well, some of it in good condition, the rest would be eaten only if it had to be and some would serve as great fire fuel. He heard footsteps upstairs. He took his gun. "Better safe then dead" he mutters going up the stairs.

An open window brings in a chill which matches the one going up Gabriel's spine. This would be the perfect time to get jumped. He moved on though. That is when he saw them. The horrible, festering, monstrous creatures that haunted his nightmares. Flies. This time with added radiation and mutation with equals terror from beyond hell itself. "Bastards" Gabriel mutters aiming his gun. Firing at one, it explodes into shards of grotesque flesh and green vomit-inducing fluids. Another one fires dart of poison at it, another gift of mutation. Gabriel returns the gift with his own. A small piece of metal fired at high speed. A third fly greet the scavenger from behind, it unnaturally big red eyes crush his soul. Lucky a few bashes with his stick does it in. The goggle help keep the blood away. After a few moments of recollection and regrouping a low growl comes across the air waves. "Oh dear"...

Gloria allowed the girl to take her hand and take her to where her sister was. Judging from the bandages on the young girl, someone had already attended to her. She saw the girl weakly stand up, only to come tumbling back down again. As the girl tried to get back up, Gloria hurried over to her and gently, yet firmly sat her back down.

There was no time for introductions right now. Quickly, Gloria got to work. "It's okay, it's okay," she mumbled. She addressed the hurt girl, "Your sister came and got me. Don't stand back up, you need to rest." She bent down to the girl and looked over her bandages. Whoever had saw to her first did a decent job at patching her up. "Those bandages look pretty good for now. They'll keep you tied over for a bit, but they'll probably need to be swapped out shortly." She took off her small grey backpack and reassuringly patted it. "I have some plants in here that will sooth the cuts and help with any infection."

From up above them, she heard a loud bang and the sound of something scurrying away. Her eyes darted up towards the ceiling, wondering what the sound was coming from. "We may have to get out of here soon, I don't like the sound of whatever it is up there."

Jack sat there after the A/C system was repaired, then he checked the temp, the suit actually over heated, and the actual temp outside, was 67, Jack didn't feel cold because the ballistic gel inner armor was so warm. He sighed when he found that out, "Piece of EX garbage! You're lucky I need protection out here, or you'd be in the trash!" he said and put the suit back on, he was given an ammo counter after he connected the gun to the suit. There was a minimap, but it was blacked out, and only dots of a certain color were showing. Green was a clean human or animal, yellow is meant for unknown, and red for mutated beings, or anything with mutation in their genes. When the map came on, a red, and two greens showed up. He spun around a few times, and was looking at a tall building, "Alright...Let's go..." he said, and made his way to the tall building

When he arrived he could hear voices, female voices, he kept going up, then came to a room, the door was closed. He heard a loud bang above him, but ignored it, then he kicked the door in and aimed at three girls in the room he was in, "Hands up! Don't move!" he shouted out of his mask.

Casey smiled as Shay walks over with the woman. Casey wanted to yell at Shay, but she was to tired to fight. Suddenly a man came in holding the gun yelling them to put there hands up. Shay and the woman did but out of reflex she pulls the pistol out like her father taught her. "I'm... okay...just stay back!" Casey hands trembled, it was hard to hold up the gun pain shot through her body. She knew the poison would start spreading. She slide in front of Shay knowing if she shot she was bound to miss, so protecting Shay was the only thing on her mind. "I'm...not ...a...bad shot. I wont let you hurt her." she say gasping for air after each word. Shay tried to move, but Casey was much to big for her. She didn't take her eyes off the man in the armor for a split second.
