The Velveteen Rabbit
A Fluffy Bun
Her eyes stared out, watching silently as her people roamed the streets of the Crystal Kingdom with smiles on their faces. The ball was almost upon them, and the palace was more lively than ever. After spending several minutes observing her kingdom, Selene walked through the long, endless hallways filled with her advisers and maids, each person bowing as she strode past. Crystal Quentin was right beside her obediently with a sword sitting in its sheathe.
"Three of our best knights never returned from their journeys." Selene murmured to the crystallized knight, her eyes troubled as she entered the throne room. A huge, magnificent throne made of sapphire sat near the end of the room, shimmering brightly under the crystallized chandelier hanging above. Selene paced back and forth in front of it, her heeled shoes clicking against the floor with each step.
"There is nothing we can do, my queen." Crystal Quentin responded, his voice deep and slightly sympathetic. The queen stopped in her place, closed her eyes, and let out a deep sigh.
"No."
She lowered herself onto the throne, staring towards the floor.
"I cannot sit here and do nothing." The queen glanced over to the knight, who met her gaze with his own. He nodded after a few moments of silence, not daring to disobey her.
A group of scouts assembled outside of the palace, their horses neighing restlessly. Selene watched from the window above as Crystal Quentin gave them the details of the missing knights. Moments later, the gates of the Crystal Kingdom opened, and the scouts sped through, disappearing into the crystallized forest. Selene frowned worriedly, and stepped away from the window. She had heard the reports, and how the knights vanished near a cave not too far from her kingdom. A witch was rumored to live there.
Selene looked down worriedly at the thought. She hoped the scouts made it there safely, and returned back soon.
