Actually making an RP

Hello friends,

SO I'm still pretty new here and I really would like some help navigating.

I understand in order to make a roleplay you create a new thread. But what is this about OOC information and Character information? (I'm coming here as someone who roleplays using social media, like facebook groups)

What are these, and what should I do with them?

OOC = out of character chat. This is where you and your roleplayers can speak out of character, so you don't have to put what you want to say in brackets in your roleplay posts. The character sign up thread is where you make a template or a 'skeleton' as some people like to say, for your roleplayers to make characters upon. For example, if I wrote that you needed to have a name, age, personality ect, the people applying to my roleplay would follow that rule when making a character sheet to show what/who their character is.

I don't know if it helps but additionally, the overview is where you include vital information/backstory about the roleplay. For example, in a roleplay about a high school, you might include details about the school and what ideas you have for the roleplay. You can apply for additional tabs too, if you need to. Like ones for places, rules, lore or additional roleplaying.

(It also helps to post an interest check before starting a roleplay. Then, you can recruit a decent amount of interested people to your roleplay before starting it.)

Ok, So if I wanted to make a character sign-up sheet, what would I do?

My biggest question is where does this all go? Do I write it all out in the same place as my starter?

You'd edit the first post made in the thread with all the things you want the roleplayers signing up for your roleplay to include in their cs. I would start of with something simple like this:

Name:

Age:

D.O.B:

Personality:

Biography:

Likes:

Dislikes:

And so on. Just add anything that is related to your roleplay into it. :)

Okay, I'm gonna do this in simplified steps b/c it is complicated to the newcomer!

Create a thread. Four tabs will be available within the thread.

The first one is the main roleplay. This is where you will put up a starter and interact with other characters. I advise doing this only after a sufficient amount of people have joined.

The second tab is the overview. This is where information to do with the roleplay should be kept. It's a good idea to keep a list of rules here too/or a list of characters for later reference.

The third tab is the OOC. This is where you should talk to other people in your roleplay, so that the main tab doesn't get cluttered. Make sure you watch this thread as it is where most interaction between you and other roleplayers will take place.

The fourth tab is the character sign up. As Sunkissed explained, you put a "character sheet". People will fill it out underneath and you can accept their characters. Then, they are allowed to post in the main roleplay.

Does that make sense at all? Or did I make it worse?

Alright, one more question, would I need to wait for someone to make the first post on the roleplay, or can I make a post that just says 'Character sheet?'

Edit it into the first post in the thread. It has already been made for you (when you made the thread.) There should be a little 'edit' button that you can press and edit the cs information into it.

It makes a lot of sense, except one thing. I have made a thread earlier, but the four tabs are the Main, The OOC, Charcater sign up, and then one that says request a new tab.

OK, I gotcha. Thanks so much

You've created a 1x1 tab. Those are slightly different, I believe, though I don't really use them. 1x1 tabs are designed to only have two characters (or possibly three) so I don't think the overview tab exists there.

Wait I've found it. But thank you so much for your help

It's no problem. I came to this site from Instagram and had similar problems, so it's nice to help someone out.

1x1 doesn't automatically come with an Overview tab, but you can always request one if you want it.
