Anne retrieved her dog-eared copy of Les Misérables, giving up on trying to interact with anyone. The ballroom was almost full, and her head was in agony. There were vampires everywhere, some milling in groups and talking, others dancing with someone. She couldn't dance, nor was she a thrilling conversationalist, so Anne stuck to the sidelines, sipping some blood to keep herself from fainting, and observing the crowds. In time the throbbing in her head began to seem less painful, and she could begin to hear some individual voices in place of the painful screaming she had heard for the last few hours. This was one of her favourite games. She spent her time trying to match voices to faces, and heard some very interesting commentary for the conversation a couple, obviously older vampires, were having near her.
