[A Time Apart] (Current IC) What once was

After the last drop evaporates, Dylan lets out a relieved sigh and stands up, backs away a few steps; and promptly falls on one of the other beds, laughing.

"Oh man, did you see that!" He chuckles. "I just got rid of Power-Neutralizing Venom. That shouldn't be possible!"

He continues to lie there, a big, stupid grin on his face. "Anyway, if we don't want the sun to rise I should probably wait a little while before tackling the next one. There are seven more in there."

Eight, not seven.

Rose stands as well, and tries to tower over the resting Dylan. Being a fairly short woman, it's not entirely successful. "Power Neutralizing Venom? What is that? And how did you manage to draw it out of her? I specialize in poisons and didn't find any trace of that-" she waves her hand at the already empty bowl, "in her body."

So, uh, Bria picking up anything from Rose other than the apparent? The only reason I didn't roll something is not knowing what to roll...

Ah, sorry. Percep+Socialize or Investigate. At the moment, without rolls, you can tell she's astonished over what Dylan just acomplished, curious and frankly wondering what the hell he just did.

“Because it was a magical poison--am I right, Dylan?” interjects Grant. “One that only affects certain types of magic users. Regular Medicine wouldn’t be able to affect it.”

The skill of Dylan is drawing a bit of curiosity from Rose. She is definately expecting answers, and doesn't really appear to be accepting Grant's at the moment. She's likely going to be digging for the truth from Dylan and the others.

Curious about Dylan's last comment as well.

Bria leans in towards Rose, "Forgieners, can't keep their expressions straight when you get them out of their native tongue, haha." Turning to Dylan Bria continues, "Where are you from anyway? Whatever crazy poison you are talking about isn't local, eh?" Bria gives him a subtle wink that says, 'Work with me and stop freaking out the locals.'

Using False Burrow Pursuit on Rose to draw attention to the forgien nature of Dylan and explain the crazy things he is saying. I'll let you decide what I targeted it at.. hoping for socialize or linguistics.

Not as perceptive as Bria, Grant nonetheless has a feeling that her words really didn’t smooth things over.

Is it because I said it as me, as Grant Greenhoe, and not while deliberately speaking in an “in-character” fashion? Do the laws of this universe enforce proper IC behavior? Good God -- does that mean I have to consciously stay in-character all the time for as long as I’m here, without so much as a break for pizza? The thought is terrifying and slightly nauseating.

I’m not Captain America, and I’m not a man. But if I want to have any positive effect on events, by the rules this world operates by, if I have to dress and move and speak like a man, and a fictional one at that, in order for them to accept me, maybe for years, or for the rest of my life…is it worth it?

And then it hits her: Is this what it was like for Emily, before?

Rose nods. "You mind going over those poisons with me then?" She looks at the still unconscious Barbara. "If it's something foreign but showing up here, I'd really like to know how to fix it myself."

"Let me put it this way," Dylan says, sitting up. "I'm a healer just like you, so I can treat infections, set broken bones, tell you why you shouldn't have eaten a mushroom, and other things like that."

As he talks, it becomes all too apparent just how foreign he now looks. Straight, black hair cut short; heavily sunbrowned skin; dark brown eyes. Anyone able to remember him talking about the character before Barbara worked her magic you recall him talking about how Ranan was supposed to be the runaway son of a southern crime lord who now sold himself as a troubleshooter.

"I've also received special training in combating the effects of the supernatural." He continues, taking a cue from Grant and Bria. "Meaning demon poisons, god curses, ancient diseases; I can cure all of them, given the time and resources. It's in no way easy."

"The poison we pulled out of her," He gestures to Barbara, "Was cutting off her ability to work with magic."

"And the other seven? Can you teach me? Also, what did you mean by the sun rising? Is that part of your training?" Rose rattles off the questions.

"Guys, I think we're gonna have to tell her the truth." Dylan says in English. "Or at least something close to it. She picks up on bullshit too well. And besides, her infirmary is too well stocked. It's gonna be a lot harder for me to pull the other poisons out of Barb anywhere else."

Bria giggles, "You're a curiosity friend," Bria directs at Dylan. "Don't worry Rose there will be time. The doctor's patient doesn't seem to be going anywhere tonight."

Finding a place to seat herself Bria smiles at Rose with an open face, "The guards seemed very worried about bandits. Maybe you can tell us the news?"

"Raiders, actually." Rose corrects. "They've been hitting the local areas, raiding for food and taking captives. I've been up to my elbows in wounded." She turns a look on Dylan. "At least the poisons they've been using I recognize, which is why I was going herb collecting. What method do you use to draw the poisons out? I've never seen jade used in that manner before."

"Raiders? Captives?!" Even though she doesn't have Chameleon's memories something triggers the response. "Who is it? Is it Linowans? What are they doing with the captives?"

"Well, black jade is attuned to water, so if you can center it on her chakras perfectly, you force the poison to become a liquid." Dylan says, glad the knowledge didn't fade after the charm had done. "The tricky part is getting it specifically into the bloodstream so it can be treated like a standard poison. If its focused into a different part of the body, then you've got to operate fast, or else..." He trails off.

"I don't know, it could likely be Linowans, but they're an even bigger bunch scraggly bastards than usual. And as for what they're doing with them, I'd guess slavery. But since I'm not one of them, I couldn't tell you for sure." Rose answers Bria, even as she hangs onto Dylan's explination. "I see. You concentrate the poison into the blood with the jade, and use it to guide the poison out of the body? Interesting. You had a name for that other poison. Do you know what the others are in her?"

She pauses. "Oh, I've been completely rude." She looks at the others. "I am Rose Blossom, granddaughter of the woods. May I at least know who the patient is?"

“That’s one of the things we’re hoping Barbara will be able to explain when she wakes up,” the Sentinel says. “So, tell us more about these raiders, ma’am. Maybe we can help you folks out here.”

Jake had been quiet for most of the conversation, although he had been listening intently. His skills were not of much use here, but he looked up at the mention of the raiders. Scouting and assassination were his specialties, as much as he was starting to regret his specialized build, it was better to actually apply himself where he could then sit around moping about it. "I have some training in counter-insurgency. Perhaps I could be of use."

Most of you catch Rose Blossom's little huff of disappointment when you decline to introduce yourselves, but she continues anyways. "You'd probably have to talk to the guards more than me. What I do know is they've been coming in groups of at least thirty whenever they attack, usually overwhelming the small number of guards we have."

She looks saddened. "It's a fight to save the lives of the guards every time it happens, and I don't always win. There's probably thirty men convalescing at their homes, and a couple dozen we've buried." Rose's voice goes quiet. "I'm afraid they're just whittling away at our numbers, and I can't even get out long enough to ask grandfather for help. If you're able to help, please do so."

He frowned at the description of the bandits. It would be inevitable that his group would be drawn in to conflict with them, given how eager some of his fellows were asking questions about them. If he wanted to keep his friends alive, he would have to try to make sure they had every advantage possible. "I'll talk to them then, if Barbara wakes up, tell her He Who Walks Behind is out 'doing his thing.' She'll know what that means." He looked at the others, trying to communicate his intentions for some cross-continental sniping by making a subtle 'gun' sign with his fingers. "Unless you guys have a better idea?" He asked.

Grant catches Jay’s gesture, gives him a tiny shake of the head -- wait.

“Pardon me, ma’am, I’m forgetting my manners.” The Sentinel stands up and bows.

“This gentleman here is He Who Walks Behind -- the Walker, for short. He’s what we call a Nightbringer, and if I’m not mistaken, he’s already planning how to bring the night down on these raiders who’ve been harassing you.

“Our healer is Dylan, also called Ranan of the Four Wings, the Hammer of Heaven. And when you get to hear those flame weapons of his go off, you’ll know why he’s called that. A kind man, but don’t ever get on his bad side.

“Speaking of hammers, this lady with the very large one is Ryuuka, the Rising Storm. Don’t be fooled by her quiet ways. She studied in a monastery when she was younger, and she learned how to call the lightning there.

“The lovely young woman you’re speaking to is the Chameleon, beloved of Luna Herself, and scourge of all vile men who would abuse a woman. I don’t envy those raiders when she finds them, that’s for certain.

“The unfortunate lady you’re treating is named Barbara, and she’s a seer. It was she who guided us here, and without her, we’re more than a bit lost.

“And you, ma’am -- you called yourself the granddaughter of the woods? Is your grandfather a forest god?”

"You forgot one thing." Dylan gets up and places a hand on Grant's shoulder, his amused expression never leaving his face as he makes the last introduction. "Our soldier friend here is the Sentinel of Liberty." He pauses for a second, seeing the flash of annoyance on Grant's face as she hears the name. "Feel free to just call him Sentinel, though. He's not crazy about the full name. You see that shield of his? He fights in defense of the innocent, and it serves him better then a sword or spear ever could."

"Forest King, not god." She says. "My grandfather is a King of the Forest, an elemental."

Rose then looks at Bria. "Luna?" Does that make you one of the moonmad?" She's more curious that terrified of one of the dreaded Anathema. "Do you truly lose your mind at the sight of the moon? I have a hard time believing you would need to be put down."
