[A Time Apart] (Current IC) What once was

"The moon doesn't make me lose my mind, but I guess if you follow the outsider's perspective on things that is not an incorrect title."

yeah so how does this town work? So far the only thing Haltan is Rose's parentage... and now she is going on about immaculate stuffs? Are we effectively far enough outside Halta proper to not have Fae issues down here on the ground?

Even going by the map, Black Branches is just on the inside Slulura's domain, so the chance of Fae raiders is low. Also, I have had fevered imaginations on explanations for what happened. Stay tuned to eventually figure out what.

:P
Rose nods. "I hadn't met anyone blessed by Luna herself before, and the Immaculate monks that come through occasionally rave at your supposed insanities. You seem no worse that anyone else."

"Several hundred years of dogma tends get give you an... incomplete viewpoint." Jake said with a shrug. In his mind, the Immaculate Order wasn't an inherently bad thing, it was just that bit about the Exalted that they could do without. Granted that was from the view of an outsider, he supposed that someone who actually lived here and grew up with it had a very different opinion.

Bria bit her lip, but then remembered her situation and smiled at the healer. "Worse perhaps to your enemies if our friend finds them. Until then perhaps we can be of some help around here. Though, I suppose we will need to secure a place to stay for the night."

"That guard mentioned the Green Dragon." Dylan said. "Its supposed to be one of the cheaper places around here...of course, we don't have any money."

"I don't think that'll be a problem. If we take care of their bandit problem for them, I don't think they'll be in a position to refuse us some lodgings."

Rose looks at Dylan. "I still need to go herb gathering, and since your friend appears to be your patient more than mine, you are welcome to stay here and watch her while I go."

"Mind if I come along with you, Rose? It sounds like it would be good to have someone watching your back out there."

"I.. uh, fine?" gripping the floor with her toes she adds, "I.. my family lived in a border outpost in the trees." She glanced back to the others with a bit of an uncertain look as if to say, 'right?'

Dylan gives Bria an reassuring smile. He'd rather it be her cover story then his.

"Go ahead." He says to the two. "We're gonna need to come up with a plan for what to do, anyways."

"Good." Rose smiles, grabbing Bria by the hand. "Come on then, we'll see how much you remember. Dylan," she looks at the healer, "don't let any of your friends into my medical supplies. I'm trusting you."

Bria finds herself pulled out of the infirmary home, and through the town towards the north end and out the gate. Rose waves to the guards who nod back to her, before the two of you are quickly entering the much heavier woods on the north side of Black Branches. Once a bit into the woods, Rose kneels down for a moment. "Grandfather, protect and bless us as we enter your woods, and let your violence rain down on those who would harm us."

Smiling then at Bria, Rose quickly scampers up the nearest tree, one that is probably eight to ten feet thick. "Well, come on. I'm looking for quiet herbs today, ones that grow in the shade of leaf and bark."

Once they’re gone, Grant turns to the others, throwing off her previous mannerisms like someone throwing off a coat when the heat rises.

“Well, crap. This is a hell of a mess.”

"Hey Mullo!" Dylan leans out the window to see the black-feathered bird sitting ontop of the medical sign. "Keep an eye on the girls, alright? If anything happens, come get us."

He then walks back and flops down in a chair, mentally exhausted. "You can say that again. So what are we thinking? Bandit hunting to gain some credit?"

"Yeah, sorry, that was my fault. In my defense, you try carrying a full grown women as far as that and not get a little cranky." Jake settled down across from the others to get comfortable. "The way I see it, we have no money to make things easier, but the concept of trading favors for favors is nigh universal. Considering our... unique status, taking down the bandits shouldn't be too much of a hassle." He leaned forward in the chair to help outline his strategy "I was planning on getting to the highest and farthest point from them and picking them one by one, soften them up for the rest of you to minimize the danger you'll be exposed to."

“Well, we have to get credit somehow, if we want to eat.” Grant shakes her head. “I can’t believe none of us took the Resources Background! What were we thinking?” She frowns. “We also need a long-term plan of some kind. Picking off bandits is all very well, but--”

"I think the very first thing we should look in to is the Curse. We can't go around doing our thing with that hanging over us.

"Where would be start with that, though?" Dylan says, searching every pocket and fold in his clothing to be sure there wasn't a single coin. "Aside from the Yozis, we're the only ones who even know the Great Curse is a thing. Besides, the Solars were able to accomplish amazing things, even though they went a little nuts every once and a while. What we should do is seal Malfeas off from Creation. No demons, less evil in the world, and no Reclamation."

Testing her phalanges briefly, Bria feels the bark of the tree then takes a leap up the tree and tries to scrable up after the healer.

Dex+Ath?

"Except for that whole thing where we become worse than the Yoazi ever could be, because of the great curse."

"Yes, the Solars became total bastards. But I don't blame the Great Curse for that. It's more the fact that they had absolute power for who knows how long, and were more of less unopposed. Classic corruption by power. Not to mention that they didn't know about the Curse. Whenever they limit broke, everyone just assumed it was natural. We know better, and we can keep each other in line."

"So you would rather suffer temporary bouts of madness, risk people's lives and potentially plunge the world in to a darkness worse than the Yozi's ever could, just because you think we can 'handle it'"?

“And our alternative is what, slit our wrists? Sit around and do nothing? Look, we have superpowers now, OK? And -- don’t laugh! -- with great power comes great responsibility,” says Grant fiercely.

"I'm not saying we shouldn't do something about it." Dylan says, frustrated. "I just don't think it should be our first priority."
