[A Time Apart] (Current IC) What once was

Noticing that his runner wasn't getting closer to the town and that he had Goblins making their way towards him, Jake decided that it was probably time to call the quits. Placing the Bow back in Elsewhere, he activated his stealth Charm to make his getaway. Finding comfort in the infinite stillness that surrounded him, he turned and steadily made his way back to civilization.

Bria:

The lunar gets a smile as she accosts one of the guards for directions to the where Dylan may have gone, but directions are given regardless. It's only a few minutes to find the barracks and she finds Dylan there, talking with a man by the forge fire while Grant is talking with a few of the other guards.

Jake:

It is a harrowing moment when one of the goblins actually crawls up the same tree he is in, and nearly grabs his foot while grabbing the branch he stands on. But the goblins bypass him, and Jake makes it back to town without an issue.

Several of the guards in the room look up, including the two men that are conversing with the two people Bria called out to. "Is something the matter?" The man talking to Grant asks.

“Hmm. Excuse me a minute -- I better go find out what the lady wants,” says the Sentinel with a grin. “She can get testy if she feels neglected.” He strides quickly over to Bria. “What’s up?”

"We should talk in private, back at Rose's place. Where is Jake, uh Walker or whatever he's going by?"

“Bandit hunting,” says Grant with a shrug. “He said he’d talk to me later. Listen,” she continues, shifting a little awkwardly from side to side. “I just signed on with the local guard. I suggest you do the same, or find yourself a place here--listen, I said! We’re almost certainly going to be in Black Branches for a while: Barb’s not going to get back on her feet overnight, and besides, I think we’re, well, supposed to be here. I have some theories about that, but never mind, I’ll tell you those later. Anyway, the town’s taken quite a few losses from these raiders. I’ll bet my socks that each of us can find a place where our specific skills will turn out to be badly needed.”

"Uh, yeah about that..." Bria closes in and stands on her toes to whisper to Grant, "the raiders aren't what they think, and Jake is in danger out there. This, this whole place got messed up, and the fae are pissed, city on the ground.. think about it. I made an arrangement to buy us time, but if Jake is out there they will be eager to catch him."

"I could work with pig iron." Dylan says to the man, not at all dissuaded by the fact this would take a bit more work then he had planned. "If there's any chance I could use the forge in your off hours, that would make things even better. You see...hold that thought."

"We need to figure out this name thing." Dylan mutters to the two as he walks up. "Wait, who's eager to catch Jake?"

"No one, as far as I can tell." Said the man in question, appearing behind them almost literally out of thin air as he let the Charm drop. "Although I am going to assume you're talking about the Fae in the forest? They seem to have organized a manhunt for something."

"Yes, please say that louder." Dylan sighs, his look of surprise being stalled by the inevitable attention of every guard in the room.

Bria addresses them both with an angry whisper, "They are not coming here, and there are more urgent things to discuss. Come with me."

She then heads off towards Rose's hut at a brisk pace.

Jake ignored the comment and the looks and followed Bria. Not like they all wouldn't have found out anyway, rampaging Fae were kind of hard to miss. "They seemed pretty pissed, raving about a broken treaty or something."

"Hold on." The guard captain says as the group reaches the door, overcoming his surprise at Jake appearing out of thin air, to his eyes. "No one's leaving until you explain a few things. What's this about the fae on a manhunt, and what the hell are you talking about saying the treaty's broken?"

"Grant," he calls, "I guess I forgot to ask if you were running from the fae then, and that's why you're here. I'm going to throw all of you out to whatever fae is out there to appease it if you broke the treaty. But if it's not your fault, then you just signed up for two seasons of protecting this town. I don't expect you to keep me out of the loop on things like this."

Bria spins around with a sigh, "No one broke the treaty, sir. The treaty was changed without any of the participants knowledge. Your town was changed along with it. And probably your memories too from the sound of things. Black Branches used to actually be in the branches you know. The fae are pissed off because whoever changed the treaty did so to their detriment."

Bria's tattoos shift from dark brown to silver to silver radiating the light of the moon. She looks at the man as though she was his superior in command.

"I am investgating the matter and need your full cooperation. It seems the Fae may also have been responsible for the raids and that will stop, now. Keep your guard up, but report any signs of oddities. Oh, and if you have any non-Haltan guests in town keep them here for their safety. I must go speak with the ruling body and discuss this further, but first we need to check on our friend who was injured. I'm sure I can trust you to maintain calm in the mean time."

It may not solve anything, but a palm covering the face has the dual benefit of temporarily obscuring your vision of the buffoonery as well as cradling the on-coming headache.

Now, the Sentinel removes his hand from his face and sighs.

“I am not running from the fae, sir,” he says patiently, a reasonable man surrounded by people with more enthusiasm than reason. “Nor do I know anything about the broken treaty, other than what was just announced. As I mentioned to Guardsman Carrig earlier, the Walker has some experience as a scout. It seems he set out immediately to see if he could find out anything about these raiders. Unfortunately, while stealth is one of his many skills, tact is obviously not.”

Thankfully, you both got six successes. He was willing to spend the willpower to ignore one of you, but not both. 2 die stunt to Bria, 1 die stunt to Grant.

Between the glowing moonsilver on Bria and Grant's honest words, the captain just shakes his head. "Look, I've got no damned clue what you're talking about that the town used to be in the trees. I've lived her my whole life and it hasn't been. But I'm going to take your word at it right now. Grant, you've got duty starting tomorrow." He motions to Bria. "Your ruling body ever teach you manners? I'll have my men keep an eye out, but you are not in command here. You can ask nicely, or you won't get any cooperation, I can promise you that."

The Sentinel snaps a salute, while managing to give Bria an exceptionally hairy eyeball at the same time. “Yessir.”

Bria feels like collapsing, but manages to not reflexively shift into something small. "Of course captain. One conversation with the Fae too many today seems to have sapped my manners. We should really get going though."

"They're tricky bastards." The captain agrees. "Please keep me in the loop about the treaty, I'd like to know if I'm going to have to defend the town from an entire horde of goblins."

Dylan gives a nod to the captain as they walk out. He would need to apologize to the forgemaster for walking out in the middle of a conversation. But that could wait.

"So, this city used to be somewhere else?" He starts once they've gotten a good distance away from the guard HQ. "There's a Sidereal charm that can do that. I think its dodge. It lets you relocate an entire area, and anyone affected doesn't even notice. They just think it's always been that way."

"Neighborhood Relocation Scheme." He said, nodding in agreement with Dylan. "There was a runner out in the woods who might have been able to give us a clue, but I mistakenly scared him away. We should probably find him" Jake decided that he would speak his concerns about the Bandits later, as they had more pressing matters to attended to and it was likely that the two were related anyway.

Without further ado, finally, the split apart five of you make it back to Rose Blossom's infirmary once more. There, Rose and Ilusia are no where to be seen, although you can hear them further into the home. Ryuuka is watching over the still unconscious Barbara.
