[A Time Apart] (Current IC) What once was

Again, Ryuuka's hammer gets a long look. "And you want to know what she'd accept in payment, other than silver?" A smile enters her eye. "Rose has worked long and hard to make this infirmary capable of handing just about any injury. If any of you are good with your hands, I'd have to stop her from kissing you over some very well made surgery tools or something like that. We don't get much trade at all in regards to healers tools. Too many people are interested in sending people here instead. Other than that, hmm, I'm not sure."

Bwa ha ha.

Bria watches a moment considering her options... Less than a day probably wouldn't be enough time.. I mean, the only thing she could think of to change things like that would be sidereals, or maybe barbara, but the first would be hard to find and try to kill her and the second was unconscious. If this fae started investigating his way the town would probably be half mad or corrupted by the time he was done. She needed more time.

It wasn't like changing the treaty back was in her power, nor was it wanted in the short term, the whole village would get overrun before it could be moved up into the trees.

Think think.. feeding the fae? Not even an option. Certainly she would not submit to that, and the poor people were more victims of this than anyone else. Grrrr!

Hm.. Kill him? Hope to fix it fast enough? No... they raid all the time here so they can't be far.

Maybe.. I mean it would suck, but.. oo and if he hasn't eaten then.. he would be low on essence right? Not as.. dangerous?

Bria cleared her throat, "You and I both know this matter is likely more complex than that time will allow. But, I see no reason to play petty games when there is a greater game to play. Your investgative techniques as applied to the village would not strictly be permissible by the terms of the current treaty now would they? Since you surely don't want a pack of Lunars descending on your little band, you can investigate the problem from a different direction. The treaty. If we may agree for the moment that it is unlikely that either party modified the treaty which, has. benefited. them. both. Then we must consider that a third party was responsible. Investigate the surroundings if you must, but there must be something in the document that speaks to the origin of the new statement. You are a lore master, so surely your talents applied toward that end would be more productive than waiting around in a tree. Three days hence we will meet here again, and report on our findings."

"Our peoples have come to agreements in the past. Let us agree to investigate the matter together from different ends. A cessation of hostilities for the duration of the investigation to allow it to move unhindered. If we find nothing, the village will be moved. Then we will each have time to resolve the matter before your master or my elders decide to take a more.. military action." The last words are punctuated by a slight shift in posture that reminds the Fae that Lunars are not a foe to be taken lightly.

When you're hot, you're hot. And Bria's on fire.

The fae stands back up, looking at Bria. "You may have a point." A mad grin explodes over his face. "Will you let me bend the rules to hunt whoever I find that did it, even if they are in the trees?" He is gleefully rubbing his hands together now. "I'll wine them and dine them. Well, they'll be wine and dine, but that's semantics!"

If it is some bastard sidereal who cares, but.. Barbara, if it is her she won't even be up to full strength by then. If she is even awake. Of course.. hunters don't always succeed, and sometimes they become the hunted... Surely the others can handle this one if worse comes to worse...

Bria's grin in return is feral, "I won't stop you from hunting whoever did it and them alone, be they on the ground or the trees or the air."

"A bargain made, by Cup and by staff. By ring and by sword, to bind in my Heart 'til all else is unbound." The fae is suddenly serious for a moment.

And then the moment is over. "Hooray, dinner time!" The fae gives a big grin and drops from the tree. Down below, you see fae shifting his hands in air before a dozen little goblins appear from thin air. "We hunt! Anyone not of Haltan descent, bring them to me to be interrogated!"

"Well, its not what I'm best at, but..." Dylan pauses, thinking of what exactly he could do. Crafting was hardly what he was best at, but he had the skill to create exceptional items. At least, if he had read the rules right. "If you knew where I could get my hands on some scrap metal, I may be able to make those."

"I did say very well made. You're able to turn scraps into something better than her regular tools?" Ilusia moves over to one of the cabinets and pulls out a small, delicate scalpel. She shows it to Dylan. "She has a set like these that she had to bargain long and hard for, from one of the Realm traders that came through a year ago. You can do better than this with scraps?"

Handling the tool, it's easily of Fine quality.

"Even for something as finely made as this, it was the hands that made it that determined the quality. Not the metal." Dylan admires the polish of the blade. "As long as I can find the right scraps, ones that are the right shape and size; then yes, I believe I can do finer work. Unless you know of a better way to get materials."

Ilusia looks confused. "You say scraps and I think of what's left over after I get done making a meal. What you're talking about doesn't sound like scraps to me."

"Alright, so maybe 'scraps' isn't the right word." Damnit, TF2. Stop confusing me. "What I will need though, are pieces of metal. Some I can get for cheap."

"The guard keep their own foundry, and there's another smith in town. Would you like directions to one of them?"

"How to get to the guards' would be great." Dylan says. With any luck, they would be willing to help once he told them who this was all for.

Controlling her urge to gag at the thought of it all, Bria hurried in the direction Rose ran off using her tongue and tail to speed her movement through the trees. Oddly, tasted not so bad, but definitely weird... she considered while swinging from a branch by her tongue.

Bria finds Rose on the edge of the treeline, right near town as she watches both the town and the treeline. She doesn't appear to want to leave the trees to go back though.

"Well, you're here now so I don't think Rose will kill me for stepping out. Hey, Em-" Dylan stops, faking a cough. This name thing was annoying. "Ryuuka, keep an eye on Barb, will ya? I don't think I'll be too long."

I head over to the foundry, unless anyone says anything.

Going to put you on hold for a moment until Grant at least answers the current question being posed to him.

Bria shifts back to herself and lands next to Rose, "Hey there, you ready to go home? Something a little more important than herb gathering has come up."

Rose startles enough that she almost falls from her perch. "We can't leave the trees. The fae said that the town isn't really covered by the treaty. But why? It's been this way for years and years! And we haven't had any real issues!"

dude my name is Bria :-P

"We'll be fine, but we need to get back to the others and tell them what happened, ok?"

"But the fae!" Rose says. "He was threatening to tear apart the town for some reason!"

Lies! It was right the whole time!

Jake blinked as Grant completely ignored his request and went off to go play soldier-man. Pausing for a moment as to how best handle this, he decided that he might as well stick to the original plan and go investigate the bandits in the forrest. Give that he was up to his eyes in Excellencies and Awareness Charms, it shouldn't be too much trouble to find them.

Once outside, he started climbing up as high as he could, hoping that he would get an indication as to the bandit camp location via the state of the canopy. Once he was at the top, he gave the area an extensive look from his viewpoint His eyes narrowed as the Charms took effect, allowing him to see for miles around with incredible detail, he could see the feather patterns on birds dozens of feet off, or count the cells in a tree leaf.

Looking for bandit hideout signs.

Perception 3 + Awareness/Investigation 3 (Not sure which to use) = Six dice + 3 Auto Successes = 9 Successes total. Lucky~

Keen Sight Technique and 3 2nd Awareness/Investigation Excellencies

Keen Sight Technique = 3 Motes. 3 2nd Excellencies = 6 Motes = 9 Motes from my Peripheral Pool. Using my Anima Power to mute the display = 2 additional Motes, making it 12 total.

Bria looks at Rose somewhat annoyed, "Look, the fae isn't going to attack the village, not now anyway, and we are strong enough to beat him. There is more important stuff going on and we need to get back to tell my friends. I don't have time to wait around so come with me or sleep in a tree all night."

With that Bria starts climbing down watching for Rose's reaction.

Alright, Arynne didn't realize it was updating, so we did a little conversation through skype. Dylan comes in after this.

"Oh, I'm pretty good at the 'not dying' part. Always learning, you know. And I've seen a battle or two," drawls the Sentinel, a twinkle in his eye.

[5:17:03 PM] ST: The man gauges Grant a little more, taking in the shield and other features. "Seen battles eh? Don't think I've ever seen you before. You're new to town then, ain't ya? You a deserter or merc that decided to hide here in town?"

[5:21:22 PM] Arynne: "I'm no deserter, mister. Where I sign on, I keep my word. But I do keep my ears open, as I travel, for places that might have especial need of my skills. Word is, Black Branches is just such a place."

[5:24:22 PM] ST: "Well, yer right about that." The man nods. "We've had some issues with some ugly as sin bandits. Thought they were fae, but the treaty's protecting us from that. How long you looking to sign on then?"

[5:25:52 PM] Arynne: The Sentinel chuckles. "I suppose 'till the bandits are dealt with' is a little too open ended, yes? How long is a standard tour of duty in these parts?"

[5:28:32 PM] ST: "At least a year."

[5:36:06 PM] Arynne: A number of things flash through Grant's mind very quickly. One is that her companions won't like being tied down to one location for a year. Another is that Barbara, when she wakes up, will probably have something to say as well. A third thought is that as Exalted, they have plenty of time; a fourth is that they need a base of operations, and at least Halta isn't Immmaculate territory; and the final thought is that if the Wyld Hunt *does* kill them all, it won't be a problem. Still...

"That's a long time, for a wanderer such as myself," says the Sentinel. "And I tend to solve problems quickly, once I turn my hand to them. How about a season?" His voice suggests he's willing to haggle a bit.

[5:37:13 PM] ST: "Two seasons, provided you're not lying about not needing any training."

[5:39:08 PM] Arynne: A line from Planet of the Apes pops into Grant's head -- "Inside of six months, we'll be running this place!" -- and she manages to repress a giggle.

"Two seasons it is then. And you'll find I'm not lying."

Dylan walks in to see Grant and another man shaking hands.

Bria:

"You've never had to deal with the fae when they're really riled, have you?" Rose says, but slowly makes her way down the tree behind Bria. "If they attack, you had better be able to back up your words."

Jake:

Your eyes can see for miles from atop the enormous trees. A few dozen miles to the north there appears to be signs of another settlement, the movements of the limbs and brushing between trees unnatural. Though, the movements are large, if it is a bandit camp, it must have several hundred people moving at this time.

Worrisome though is something closer. Off maybe a quarter of a mile is a man of pointed ears, leading a small horde of goblins as they seem to be trying to uproot the very floor of the forest. And even beyond that, the goblins climb the trees and shake them, trying to find any person they can.

hey now, I didn't say they could be doing tree hunting *before* we find people... dirty goblins... Who has some iron eh?

Bria ignored Rose's sniping and hurried them both back to the town to gather up the others.
