Alex heard the knock on the door and answered it with a towel draped over one shoulder. He was shirtless having just come out the shower, and when he saw Jess his hazel eyes widened. "J-Jess!" He noticed the bloody water dripping down her arms and through her fingers and his expression turned to one of worry. "Are you okay?!" Alex ushered her inside and offered her the towel that he'd had yet to use.

Jess dropped her duffle bag onto the floor, her eyes dull and expressionless as she reluctantly took the towel from him. Every movement she made caused her to visibly wince, her blood dripping onto his wooden floor. "I ah... Slipped.." she tried, her body shaking with a mixture of being chilled to the bone and feeling pain every time she breathed. "I-I'm fine I swear. It looks worse than it really is." She added as quickly as she could, keeping her body turned so that he couldn't see the large spot of blood that was staining the back of her shirt, a few places torn here and there in the fabric.

"You look like you're in pain, though! Let me access the damage?" He appeared genuinely worried, lips parted as he glanced over the torn skin on her arms.

"He's... As good as he can be.." Anya said, being as polite as she could as the man was naturally cold hearted and particularly cruel. But he had given her a roof over her head and food in her mouth since she was an infant so she couldn't complain too much about him. She brushed through her hair with her fingers, humming softly as she zoned out. "How far do you think we could go into the forest? I haven't been in for what feels like an eternity. I wouldn't want to waste such an opportunity if we're only going to take a few steps in."

Lyra scrunched up her eyebrows and looked at Brenner, a nervous and worried expression on her face. "What's wrong? Your hair... and your eyes... they.. Changed.." she asked, confused by the loss of color in his hair and his eyes. "Are you okay? Do you feel alright?"

Jess quickly clasped her hands behind her back. "Um... N-no that's okay. I'll just take a shower. Once I take a shower, I'll be fine, I swear." She said, not wanting to worry him anymore than she had since she knew the damage was as bad as he thought it was and even worse. The fact that it hurt that much every time she moved proved that. "Can I take a shower? Is that okay?" She asked, looking up at him, the pain obvious in her eyes even though she was trying her best to hide it.

"You know the woods are dangerous, Anastasia," Kethro answered chastisingly. "We won't be going very far, but I suppose we can get within view of the pond." There was a pond fairly near the edge of the woods, but it was still mote than 5 minutes in.

"I-I..." Brenner shuddered and then he bit his bottom lip so far that it began to drip blood down his chin. He didn't speak, only staring off into the distance.

"Not in view. I want to be at the pond or we're not going at all." She threatened, trying her best to negotiate and have authority at the same time. She knew that if Kethro was missing the forest as much as she was, she'd risk them gettin into a bit of trouble to get to the pond.

"Brenner?" Lyra quickly stepped over to him and wiped the blood off of his chin, her hands cupping his face to where she made him look into her eyes. It was at times like this when she forgot how she was raised. "Are you alright?" She repeated, genuinely worried for his wellbeing. "What's happening?"

Alex reached up and rubbed the back of his neck, seemingly conflicted. "I guess... But I'll be right outside the door in case you need me." He gingerly took her hand and led Jess to the bathroom.

Kethro crossed her arms, fighting the urge that told her to obey her princess. "If you're sticking to that deal, we just won't go. Don't be difficult, Anya." She would not put the girl in danger, no matter what it was she wished. Besides, Kethro had to keep up her facade of a peaceful elf who had never killed so much as a frog.

"I..." Brenner's expression became panicked, his eyes unfocused as if he were seeing something that wasn't truly there. Bren began to tug at the amulet, clawing at his chest where it had lain. His nails were stronger than those of a human, leaving bloodied gouged in his skin. "It burns...! It burns!" Brenner's words were strained, like he were trying not to shout out in pain.

Jess snorted, trying her best to seem like she really was alright. "I've been taking showers by myself since I was five. I'm not gonna need any help doing it now just because of a couple cuts." She said, forcing a smile as she followed after him and went into the bathroom. She thanked him and hesitantly went inside, the door closing softly behind her. It took her a good while just to get her clothes off without gasping in pain, almost her entire naked body covered in either scrapes or blood. She turned on the water and turned it on as hot as it would go, knowing it'd make her now raw skin feel better and less sensitive later. She stepped in and immediately cried out and stepped out of the stream of water, tears forming in her eyes as she covered her mouth with a trembling hand.

"Well I guess I'll just have to go by myself then. Without an escort. Alone. In the deeeep and scaaaary woods." She said, wiggling her fingers menacingly at Kethro before going towards the door. "If this is the last time I see you, tell my father that I love him!" She wailed dramatically, falling onto the door and putting the back of her hand on her forehead like a damsel in distress.

Lyra watched Brenner in horror, her eyes wide. She ripped the amulet off of him and held onto it tightly as she dived to the side so that she wouldn't be crushed by Brenner's dragon form. She couldn't think of anything else to do. The amulet seemed to be causing him so much pain that her first thought was to take it off of him.

Kethro gritted her teeth. "Don't make idiotic decisions, Anya! You know what hides in those woods, and what could happen if you go alone!" She seemed genuinely furious although she didn't raise her voice.

Bren didn't transform at first, instead curling into a ball and breathing heavily. After a few seconds, his body was shifting between forms. All of the small scales at the tips of his wings, toes, and tail were white as bones. His eyes were a silver that was white around the pupil but still slightly black at the edge of the iris. Bren was shaking a little, but he was so large that it almost seemed the ground was faintly vibrating.

Alex knocked, shifting his weight from one foot to the other anxiously. "Are you alright, Jess?" He sounded panicked as he kept himself from swinging the door open.

"I'm not a child anymore, Kethro!" Anya snapped, having been only joking and hating the fact that Kethro didn't understand the idea of one. "I know how fight almost as well as you, I know my way around the woods, and I can protect myself!" She added, huffing angrily as she pushed her hair out of her face. "Taking a few steps into our home isn't good enough. You and I both know that. So for just this one day... Let us go home. If you'll just do this for me, I won't ever ask for anything again. I swear to you that I won't."

Lyra went over to Brenner, dropping the amulet to keep it away from him. "Brenner? Are you alright?" She called, climbing onto the same rock she had hid behind the night before and looking into his big and wide eyes. She reached out a hand, it trembling lightly as she was afraid that he'd lash out at her from her trying to touch him. "J-Just let me help you.." she tried, her teeth fitting as she was preparing herself for the pain of her hand being chopped off or being burned into ashes.

"Y-Yeah! I'm fine!" Jess yelled after a moment, her voice hoarse sounding. She pushed herself away from the wall of the shower and stood back under the water, her nails digging into her arm as she held onto it tightly, red tinted water going down the drain as she forced herself to deal with the pain. She looked around the shower. Her vision blurry from the tears that were still in her eyes. Once she saw what looked like shampoo, she reached for it, but the sudden movement caused water to go into injured places it hadn't hit yet and she dropped the shampoo and it hit the floor of the tub with a loud bang.

Bren's eyes showed distrust. He leaned his head forward slowly and sniffed her outstretched hand. From his mannerisms, he didn't seem agitated, but he also didn't appear to recognize Lyra. He began to snarl until sudden recognition flashed in his gaze. Then hesitantly Brenner pressed his snout into her palm for a brief moment.

Alex couldn't help his worry at that point. He opened the door, closing his eyes respectfully even though Jess was behind an opaque curtain. "Did you fall?" He was almost whispering as his face began to pink the slightest bit.

Lyra flinched lightly at the rough and scaley texture that was now pressing into her hand. She slowly looked over at Brenner and smiled as she trailed her hand across the scales as gently as she could. She then suddenly hugged his snout tightly, having been terrified at what would happen to Brenner. So the fact that he seemed to be somewhat alright made a wave of relief watch over her. "I'm so sorry Brenner.. I don't know what happened. You just looked like you were in so much pain that I didn't know what else to do." She said, a shaky sigh escaping her lips. "You can't put the amulet back on. If yo do, the same thing might happen again. And I might not be able to stop it if it does." She tried, looking up once again and into his eyes.

Jess quickly peeked out of the curtain, ready to scream at him to get out, but once she saw that he had his eyes closed, she relaxed a bit. "N-No. I didn't fall. I just dropped the shampoo, I'm sorry." She said, disappearing behind the curtain once again, her heart hammering in her chest. "Taking a shower wasn't such a good idea after all." She joked, a light yet pain filled laugh coming from her. "I can't even lift my arms to wash my hair. It's like I'm a helpless 2 year old all over again!" She muttered, obviously annoyed with herself at not being able to just push through the pain.

Brenner's gaze narrowed slightly, and one could tell he wasn't happy about having to stay a dragon, but he knew it was inevitable. Bren pulled his snout from Lyra's arms and moved some yards away, curling up over the shattered stumps of the trees he'd destroyed when running through the woods. He lay his head on the ground and exhaled loudly, almost in a sigh, which blew dirt into the air along with a few bushes.

Kethro crossed her arms. "It's not safe. If you don't abide by the rules of the village, I'm afraid I'll have to alert your father of your misbehavior. And I don't want to do that." Kethro seemed genuinely sad. She had to protect Anya, no matter the costs. Even if that meant making the girl hate her.

"Well, maybe you just shouldn't shower. Or... would you like me to help?" Alex blushed further and started to step back out the door, trying to be less intrusive.

"I can't just not take a shower, Alex. I'm completely filthy!" Jess huffed angrily. She had always been kind of a germaphobe ever since she was little, and the fact that she couldn't get herself clean was practically driving her mad. "And I'd die of embarrassment if I let you wash me. It's like I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't!" She lifted her arms slowly so that she could rub her face in annoyance. If Alex saw her naked in such circumstances... She'd have no idea what it would do to their relationship.

Alex was slightly hurt by her tone of voice but tried not to let it bother him. "Well... I'm here if you need me," was all he said. He wasn't going to leave her to fend for herself if she needed help.

Lyra ducked out of the way of flying bushes and flimsy tree branches as she crawled over to where Brenner was pouting. "I know you aren't very happy about our newest predicament... But I promise you I'll fix this as soon I can. In the meantime... is there any... Special dragon ability of how we could communicate with more than just your angry glares and annoyed snorts?" She asked, being half teasing and half serious. It would be nice if they could actually communicate with him being a dragon, but if there wasn't a way to, she'd be able to manage.

"Oh? You'll go run to father? I'm so scared. Can't you see I'm practically paralyzed with terror?" She asked, keeping a sarcastic demeanor even though in the back of her mind she knew that she was in fact very afraid of her father finding out about this. "I'm practically an adult now Kethro, why can't you just attempt at least once to treat me like one?" She demanded, huffing angrily and rubbing her temples. "You're the one who suggested going into the woods in the first place, so you have no right to get upset with me for wanting to actually go into the woods!" She added, annoyed with how Kethro thought she had some higher authority just because she was her guard and she was older than her.

Jess let out a long sigh and the bathroom went quiet for a long while. Until the sound of her clearing her throat was heard from behind the curtain. "A-Alright... I'd really appreciate it... If you'd help me.." she said, her teeth gritted as she felt so angry with herself for needing help for something so simple. "Just... Try not to look." She tried, obviously embarrassed by the thought of him seeing her naked. It's not like she didn't want him to see her. But she had planned on preparing for it over the course of their relationship and letting it happen and the right time.
