Royal Ball; Welcoming Participants
It's a nice summer evening in the beautiful kingdom of Eternia and Prince Greyson has just found out that now is the time of the year that he finally gets to have his go at being King and choosing a wife of his choice to stay by his side and rule over Eternia. They were to all meet at the Grand Ball, where he would get to meet each potential princess/queen individually. He was somewhat hoping they wouldn't have any bad thoughts about him, especially since he wasn't really wearing his royal attire today and looked very casual and like any other person in the kingdom. As the Prince walked into the ball, he stood at the end of the hall on a nice silver and green carpet leading to the staircase that he stood upon. "Welcome all ummm...participants, today shall be a wonderful evening in which I get to know a bit about you, you will have a chance to talk to me for a while if you choose to...I don't bite...anyway I hope everyone enjoys our 10th annual Royal Selection." He said as the crowd cheered him on.

Kana wore a simple baby blue gown that was covered in ripples of flowing lace that cascaded down her, alarmingly thin and malnourished, body much like water flowing down a stream. The dress was beautiful and she was thankful that it had been left for her. She stood silently, worrying a small tuft of lace at her chest, as she was taking in the opulence of not only the large ballroom, but also those that were in attendance. She was anxious, and rightfully so, after all what right does an orphaned slave have to even be in the presence of the future king, let alone be contesting to be his future bride.

Kana looked over at the entrance when she heard excited whispers from the others and saw the Prince, and her mouth formed a little 'oh'. It was surprising to her that someone from the royal family would be dressed so simply. Though as expected he was still very handsome. When he spoke she couldn't help but softly smile, as it seemed to her that he may have been a little anxious as well. The smile vanished when everyone started clapping and cheering and she was instantly on high alert again. As the applause sounded much like the beatings she and the other slaves received.

Amongst the various participants, a young woman with rose pink hair and jade green eyes looked downright... bored. She absentmindedly toyed with a brass key that hung off of her neck as a pendant and sighed every few seconds. She had been fitted into a stunning salmon pink, teal green and pearl white gown of lace and ruffles that dragged across the ballroom floor, accentuating the uniqueness of her features. She seemed to hear the enlivened whispers of the crowd because she suddenly turned and looked straight at the prince.

She blinked once, then twice at his choice in attire before turning her eyes down towards her own clothing. She heaved yet another sigh, and with a slight shake of her head, she then focused her attention on the words spilling out of the royal's parted lips. As his short spiel came to an end with thundering applause from the rabble of people, she couldn't help but notice how another participant in this competition she found herself in had suddenly tensed up at the sound of their cheering. She raised an eyebrow at her reaction, and against what others might assume from the seemingly apathetic conductor, decided to approach the one-eyed young woman.

"What's wrong?" She asked, her voice soft from underuse and yet incredibly blunt and dry in both her tone and the words she spoke.

Rosita had been out in the streets performing when the crystal embedding her necklace changed green. The audience gasped at her and immediately guards near by swept her away to the castle. She had no time to change or to gather any of her things. Instead she was brought to this room and told to wait a rather long time before others would arrive. Being the first here meant being the first to become bored and to be alone with her thoughts. The stories from Selections before always seemed like silly fairy tales. It was always possible to be one of the chosen but why her? Why was she one of the destined candidates? At least, when she's not chosen as queen, being realistic here, she'll be rich. Sadly the thoughts of he future didn't keep the present from happening.

Her frustration was worsened as she noticed the other girls got to be in more proper attire as she stood in her "work clothes" paired with a belt of jangling hoops . Every movement of her made noise and she just wanted to stand silently. Thankfully and unfortunately the Prince had arrived and drew attention away from her noise and sent rocks into her stomach causing it to sink. Seeing him look as unprepared as her did ease her mind. He spoke almost anxiously. She expected...a bit more? Rosita guessed. Either way the dancer simply nodded at his words, wondering where this evening would take her next.

The purple horizon engulfed the dying sun and with it arose the flickering lamps that illuminated the intersecting metalled road, of which were laden with coaches and hearty steeds. The vigilant Royal Guards, donned in their robust arms of war, and cerulean cloaks of pride, were themselves a construct of the kingdom's finest. Their enclosed, faceless helmets instilled much intimidation to the newcomers, while a blessing of security to those of whom had spent much time in the capital. As the crowd of noble men and ladies had all but left the main square empty of words and sounds, a few light steps could be heard echoing the empty square of a common late guest.

Among the glimmers of the evening light, and the glowing fireflies that shone the green gardens, a lady in white emerges from the silver gates. Her white gloves extended towards the paladin with an invitation letter, whose crimson helmet plumes dictated his leadership aura. His stern, yet professional gestures were quickly humbled before the Junior Chief with a crisp salute. She dismissed his salute with a smile, before pacing her steps towards the ballroom. The surrounding darkness calls to her, with the wind-swept trees whispering the ancient tongues of heresy in the wake of her entry. The white succubus uncorked a vial from her satchel and took a sip. Its bitter extract ransomed her state of mind, as the echoing words of her darker yearnings had all but faded into the encroaching fog of the evening haze.

A bright glare unveiled before the girl, whose bewilderment was all but the end of her amusement, despite the chatters that surrounded her. Her white hair unfurled at the touch of her extended hand, like a blooming blossom of the summer daffodils. Letting her shawl loose beneath her shoulders, Sasha sighed slightly at her own vanity for the dress that she had sown and prepared a few days prior. Around her were youthful souls, whose colorful dresses were more colorful and dazzling to the eye as compared to her simple white gown and crimson stripes. The succubus's scarlet eyes scanned the room, before studying the meek, yet firm voice of the man beneath the spotlight of the grand staging ground. His distinctive aspect had betrayed him of his seemingly casual apparel and simple words. Yet, in his simplicity, she had found a sense of comfort and familiarity.

Gently brushing her glowing emerald bracelet, the reserved yet optimistic nurse went through her thoughts as to why she was chosen, and if it was all but a dream. Perhaps the best way to learn is to go with the coursing river of fate, or so she thought. This was her first time in the Grand Ball, as she had spent the last decade within the confines of her own hospital ward, with only a few occasions to explore the vendors of the lower districts. Yet here she stands, amidst the crowd, with little words to utter, and a very strong urge to just return to her ward and continue her earnest work. But like most, Sasha was instantly bribed by the sight of the grand refreshment table, of which were filled with a diverse set of food, and among them - roasted potatoes. Despite its tempting calling, the succubus refrained from reaching out for the scrumptious potatoes, at the grievance of her stomach.

"Fluffy... "

Sasha whispered to herself, observing the distant visage of the young man that had captured her skittering heart and undivided attention.

Leslie Semaaris

original.jpg
Leslie stood near the snack bar, feeding pieces of meat to her winged, reptilian partner when the prince greeted all the candidates at the ballroom. She had counted nine girls in total, all older than her, but then, there was a chance Leslie had miscounted. She'd been distracted by Snow who urged her to where all the food was. Clearly all the excitement of the day, from entering the grand halls of the royal family's palace to getting fitted for her dress, had left the young dragon hungry. Getting the guards to let Snow into the palace had been the real issue. Something about the safety of the prince, the security of the castle, yada yada. Leslie rolled her eyes. Unfortunately for the guards, Leslie had been adamant, refusing to enter palace walls unless Snow went with her. None of the men seemed to want to be responsible for upsetting a Queen's candidate--one who might one day rule Eternia with the crowned Prince.

The green, glowing crystal around her neck was proof of her status.

And Leslie wasn't afraid to leverage that fact.

Clutching the gem in a red-gloved hand, Leslie could feel the warmth pulsating from the Eternia crystal she'd worn since birth...something she thought would stay lifeless for the remainder of her life. She wondered what sort of magic was involved in the choosing process. Why her? She'd never even thought of marriage. She wasn't particularly close to the prince. Nor did she have any sort of noble blood in her. Leslie wasn't upset at the prospect of being chosen for the 10th Royal Selection or anything. She saw it as an opportunity that it was. Yet, there was no denying her curiosity either. Her idle thoughts.

Brown eyes lifted towards the staircase where a prince decked in casual clothes (as casual as a prince could get anyway) stood. Her first impression of him was that cat-ears were cute. He also seemed...nervous? Hard to say. However, the way he spoke made her feel a bit more at ease.

"I doubt he bites as hard as a dragon does."

Snow landed on her shoulder, his wings closing as he did so. The dragon's presence gave her confidence as well. She was a Sermaaris. A future Dragon Rider. No matter what hurdles the Royal Family or any of the wealthy, snobby, older, more curve-y ladies threw her way, Leslie was confident she could overcome them. Even if the Prince was, like, 10 years older than her and probably thought her a child. To win, she'd have to show Prince Greyson was just as much a woman as the other contestants. Lifting the skirt of the red dress she was fitted into, Leslie passed a dancer who was dressed differently from the rest. Leslie stared.

Her work clothes stood out, the golden hoops making music with every step. It made her look...sexy.

Flushing at her train of thought, Leslie refocused her attention on the prince of Eternia. He'd probably ask them all for a dance at some point. That's what princes do at balls right? Or maybe not. Hadn't he said 'choose to'? Were they supposed to initiate a conversation with him? What was the standard procedure in these sort of social gatherings? Leslie tried to remember what her mother told her about these things, but she drew up a blank. Ah well. She clapped along with the rest of the audience who cheered Prince Greyson on. When the applause died down, she stepped forward from the crowd, making her presence known with a smooth curtsy to the prince.

"Leslie Semaaris," the greeting was accompanied with a bright smile. "And this is Snow. We can't wait to get to know you too."

A simple response to his welcome. Nothing more, nothing less. Snow nipped at Leslie's ear indicating he was still hungry.

After taking a deep breath from reassuring himself that everyone didn't think he was all so bad he made his way down the steps as the rest of the crowd got to talking and enjoying the party with the delicious food that came with it, some were even dancing already. As he made his way down he noticed a light pink and darker pink haired girl give him acknowledgment. He bowed and gave them a sweet smile that showed a piece of his fang which kinda made him look cuter, especially being a Neko and all. The darker pink haired girl stepped up towards him and introduced herself along with what seemed to be a dragon, he had heard they could be dangerous but he didn't really buy it. "It is nice to meet you Ms. Semaaris and...hmm Snow, heh. I really do hope we get to enjoy each others company a lot more as the days go on." It was quite odd to him that a child was apart of this but she was chosen for a reason and he would respect that, besides The Royal Selection hadn't let anyone down yet and he doubted it would start to today. "It seems that your little friend is quite hungry, maybe you should get some snacks and we could maybe dance or hang around a while, and maybe you would like to join too?" He then focused his words attention to the lighter pink haired girl, whose name he had yet to learn. She seemed to still be wearing work clothes but he doubted that was her fault, all these guards get so serious when events like this came around.

Tori was still at the Tavern as the ball began. At least she thinks it's a ball. She didn't really know. All she knew was that all the participants were suppose to be there and this would be the beginning of the selection process. All the participants would meet and mingle and they would all get a chance to talk to the oh so handsome prince. She was sitting on a stole staring out into space. "Hey Tori I don't understand why you won't go." The bar tender said. Tori looked at him. "Really Alex? I'm not interested in some prince of becoming queen." Alex shrugged. "I don't want be hanging around with a bunch of star struck desperate girls who want the princes attention." Alex started to clean the bar. "You never know some of them might think like you." Tori shook her head. "Yeah maybe but bet they are still intrigue. I'm not. I don't want any part of it period. Besides it would be just a waste of time. I won't get picked." Alex glanced at her. "What if you did?" Tori smirked. "I'd sneak out and run away. You think I'm kidding but I would leave the first chance I got. Could you imagine me queen? Ha!" Alex sighed. "Look Tori I know you have no interest in any of this but this could be a nice change for you. Wouldn't you like to have change of pace instead being here all day. I know you like your life and you love being with me and the boys and just drinking away. I get that I love having you here to. But I think this could be good for you. Do you realize you don't have any close female friends?" Tori gave him a look that said she really did not care. "You need female friends you can't just hang out with us all the time." Tori pointed to the kitchen. "There's your wife I'm friends with her." Alex shook his head. "Someone your own age not old folks like us." Tori smiled at him. "Look nothing you say is going to make me go and incase you have forgotten I can't go near that palace. I have to keep my distance don't need them knowing that I'm the one that....well you know." Alex nodded remembering. "Oh right the jewels. You know they are still looking for that thief." Tori laughed, "Yeah I know and guess what? Ever since then they tightened the security around that place. Kind of neat my theft did that." Alex laughed. "Yeah well considering what you stole I'm not surprised.....You know Tori your mother would want you to go. She would of been so happy for you." Tori turned her head and stared off into space again. "Yeah I know."

Alex glanced at the clock behind him then went to the kitchen. When he came back out he hand a key in his hand and he tossed it to Tori. "Go ahead and open the place." Tori walked over to the door and unlocked it and then flipped the closed sign to open. She then walked back over and handed him the key. "Hey Tori I just thought about something isn't it required for you to go and be part of the selection." Tori shrugged. "I don't know and I don't care. Now fill me up." She said pointing to a mug. Alex grabbed one and filled it up. "Yeah but you don't think they will force you to come?" He said as he sat the mug down. She hopped up on the bar. "I like to see them try." She then picked up the mug and took swing of her drink. As she was doing that a guard walked into the bar and walked straight up to Tori. He looked down at the Crystal glowing around neck. "Miss Roberts I've come to collect you and bring you to the castle you are the only one who hasn't arrived yet." Tori put down her mug. "Not going." She said as she pointed to Alex to get her another mug. "I'm afraid you have to Miss now will please come along." She crossed her legs and smiled and with a shrug said, "No" The guard became annoyed. "Now listen I'm am trying to be nice but you are testing my patience. I will use force if I have to." She picked up the now full mug and took a nice big swallow looked at the guard and said. "Bite me." The guard walked over closer to her and smirked. "Maybe I will." Seconds later the guard screamed as his crotch was suddenly on fire. Tori put on a fake innocent face along with innocent voice. "Oops did I do that? Sorry those pesky powers are hard to control some times. He comically ran out of the bar yelling for water. "I suggest wearing armor down there next time!" She yelled out as she laughed.

Soon enough the tavern became full and loud. People were drinking laugh brawling and Tori loved every min of it. "And you wanted me to go to that stupid selection thing. This is way more fun!" She had been drinking a lot and was already little drunk. She was standing one the bar with a bottle of rum in her hand. "Hey wait a min Tori I didn't say you could have that!' Alex yelled up at her. Then his wife came from the kitchen and smacked him on the back of the head. "Now don't you go yelling at her she can have whatever she wants it's on the house tonight." Alex rolled his eyes. "Yeah sure don't make her pay it's not like I'm running a business here." His wife smiled. "Oh don't get grumpy it's just for tonight. The girl always pays anyways it's fine." She went back into the kitchen. While Tori was standing on the bar shouting out to random folks. Then ten guards appeared at the tavern. "Miss Roberts we are here to take you to the castle. "I suggest you come with us willingly." She jumped down from the bar with the bottle still in hand. "Make me." Suddenly all the guards tackled her. "H-hey! Wait a minute! Let me go! I said I'm not going damn it!" It was really quite comical. Then she was finally apprehended, a guard on each side held her arms and dragged her away. "Hey promote my place while your there huh!?" He then laughed and Tori flipped him off as she was dragged away. The other guards followed behind the two dragging her off. Her feet dragged against ground and she watched as the Tavern slowly disappeared in front of her. "Great...just great." She took a swing from the bottle which was still pretty full. She then looked at it and smiled. "Well at least I have company on my way there." One of the guards looked at her and shook his head. "I think we would of been better off leaving her there."

Tori might have been the last one to arrive. She wasn't sure though she wouldn't be surprised. When they reached the ball room the two guards dragging her walked in bit further into the room. She bent her head backwards and smiled when she saw the prince. "Hey it's cat boy!.....Why are their two of him?" She squinted in confusion and the guards let go of her arms and she found herself laying on her back. There were whispers in the crowd and people staring but she wasn't paying attention. She was looking at her empty bottle. "Aww man the rums gone." She looked genuinely sad that her rum was gone. A servant girl peered down at her. "Miss can I help you up?" Tori looked at her. "I'm drunk not helpless." Tori sat up and looked around she tried to focus her eyes cause she kept seeing double everywhere. Once she got her eyes focused she looked at the servant. "Hey mind bringing me another one of these?" Tori asked as she held up the bottle. The servant girl cocked and eyebrow up. "I don't think that would be a good idea miss. Water would be a better choice and perhaps we should get some food in you."

"What's wrong?" Kana quickly snapped out of it and looked over at the girl who spoke to her.
"It's nothing important, just nerves I guess." She answered quickly finding an excuse for her behavior. "I've never been anywhere so beautiful before, or with so many people." She added looking back out into the crowd. The biggest events that she had been able to attend where the parties her master hosted, and even then it was either as a servant or peaking into the windows. "Are the gatherings in the castle usually this big?" She asked innocently, forgetting her earlier worries.

Twila
Twila could hear her heart beating. Her mother had told her what to expect at the capital, but nothing could have prepared her for the first time she walked into the palace for the Grand Ball. She was in awe of the lavishness surrounding her. If only her mother could see it. Of course though, she had to stay behind to care for the shop in the absence of its life force.

What stunned her were the exotic flowers placed throughout the halls that led her to the ballroom. It was likely she would have been one of the first to arrive however, she was lost in the arrangements. Stopping every few feet, she’d inhale their perfumes and caress the weeping petals till they sang with life again. Eventually she made it into the ballroom just in the nick of time to hear the Prince’s greeting and to be awestruck all over again by the decor.

Twila remained in the back of the crowd near a lovely vase of baby’s breath and snapdragons, surveying the room cautiously as they cheered for the prince. Picking out the other candidates one by one from the green crystals they adorned and their more formal attire. “Well seems we’re all pretty much overdressed, except for him,” she cooed at the tallest snapdragon.

Looking at her own dress it was obvious she was a flower nymph. It was a soft lavender that faded into a cool deep purple as your eyes wandered to the bottom. The straps were interwoven with various small brightly colored flowers similar to the ones in the small braid in her hair. Unlike some of the other lady’s, Twila wore her crystal on an anklet around her right foot. It would peek out and click against the floor softly as she walked around the room towards the refreshments.

Again, she stayed observant of the interaction around her. Popping candies into her mouth as she watched the prince talking to a much younger girl and another lady dressed festively...the answer to how she ended up holding an overflowing bowl of sweets eluded her. Looking across from her she noticed another candidate starring lustfully at a plate of potatoes, it was the same look Twila would get whenever she saw scorpion lollipops. Those were always the best.

I think it would be perfectly acceptable for you to serve yourself, wouldn’t want them to be all out once you’ve finally gotten the courage to. Besides, as you can see I’m probably the first to have already stuffed my face.“ Twila smiled at the white haired lady and nodded down towards her own bowl. At the same time there seemed to be some sort of commotion going on.

The pinkette stared down at the younger woman as she spoke, her jade green orbs carrying a sort of intensity that could very easily intimidate. She did not at all believe the excuse that escaped the other's lips. She knew for certain that with the way her form had suddenly went rigid, the way her gaze had flitted about with an odd sort of alertness, the way her hands had clenched shut by subconscious demand, it wasn't a simple case of anxiety and nervousness like she had claimed it to be. It was fear. And the reason behind that fear was glaringly obvious in the eyes of someone who had once lived her life on the streets and alleyways of the city.

"This is my first time here." She immediately said in reply upon hearing the given question, speaking no more than necessary.

No, she wasn't late, even though she had gone rather incognito for the most part at the start of the ball. She didn't quite expect to be here, but it was no surprise nor was it unexpected for the crystal on her circlet to glow a brilliant shade of green. She was rich, pretty, and smart - qualities one sought in a lady and a Queen, and she carried herself with all the grace and dignity one would expect from her house. But it did mean she had to part with her job as a teacher, but she told herself that if she were to become Queen, she would do a lot more to help schools and children who needed an education, but couldn't afford one.

Dressed in an elegant but sleek dress, Cassie didn't think she was too overdressed though truth be told, she expected the Prince to wear something a little more formal, as did everyone else. But it was always good in her eyes to overdress just a little, especially when in the grace of someone so important and regal. Her dress might have looked like one any simple maiden wore, if not for the embellishments blending in with the silk skirt that subtly announced her wealth. It wasn't a dress she wore every day, especially not at the school, but this was a special occasion and it called for something just as special.

She noticed everyone had an aura about them. Just subtle hints about how they were feeling in this grand ballroom. There was calmness, and awe, and wonder, and excitement.... and fear. Yes, fear. She didn't understand why someone would be scared in this place until she noticed two young ladies. One of them, with dashing pink hair, and the other who had a little more fear about her. Cassie suddenly made the link, and the more timid girl reminded her of children on their first day at school. They too were scared in a new environment, but she always sought to play mother hen to them to calm them down.

So she approached, curious to see if there was anything she could do to help. It was a little strange, really. She only did this with little children, but this was a lady of probably around her age or so. Still, she wanted to help. "Darling," She started, though she remained a respectable distance away at first, "are you alright? You seem a little tense," Cassie mentioned.

Kana was shocked by the sudden outburst of one of the 'contestants' and just how easily she could already call the Prince names. She was shocked and couldn't help but wonder if the girl was brave or just plain dumb. As if she had even thought about doing the same to her master there's no telling what would have happened.

"Oh..." She quietly responded. The other girl was slightly intimidating, but she seemed nice enough.
Hearing yet another voice, she looked in the direction of a rich looking woman. "Yes, I'm fine, I'm just not used to this kind of thing." she spoke gently with a shy smile. She never expected someone so rich to speak so kindly to her, after all it never happened before in her past. "This is all so new and a little overwhelming." She admitted, while worrying yet another piece of lace in her slender fingers.
She caught another glance at the Prince over the others shoulders, he was attractive and she found herself wondering if he was anything like the rumors said he was. Though showing up in casual, for royalty, clothing made her think he may...

Vita was rather surprised as the pounce asked her to join him. She initially thought her nod would go unoticed as she tried to stay still and keep attention away from herself. It seems another had come up to talk to him and prompted the interaction. The girl, she barely cushy her name before. Snow? No wasn’t that introduced as the dragon’s name? Leslie. That seemed right. The dancer’s memory had retraced the conversation in full reverse instead of pinpointing the moment she wanted. Along with the name came the suggestions from the prince. Which included dancing. [bd][/br]
She hoped they wouldn’t dance. The woman didn’t know the stiff traditional dances of the ball room. No sh only knew the wild dances of the people and often paired them with her natural gift of fire. He didn’t seem to be leaning towards dancing in his attire and she doubted Leslie would like to dance with a dragon in her arms. "Sure...I would like to join you. I’m Vita Viscara.” Feeling it was the polite thing to do she introduced herself and agreed. If they would just hang out that would be fine with her. Though something told her that wouldn’t be the case with the late comer that was obviously drunk arrived. Whom fell back flat on her back and recovered like it was nothing, and of course asked for something more to drink. A small smile creeped to her face, who ever she was, Vira liked her. It would be nice to have somebody from the same “commoner” mindset as her. The dancer would have to remember to get along with the drunk. Vita turned back fo the prince. “Well, shall we get started?” She spoke with a bit more of her usual Flare. The drunkard giving her a bit more inspiration to not care about the properness of this gathering.

Sasha locked eyes with the lady in coral-lavender dress, of which were adorn with vibrant flowers. Her modest comprehension of the flowering dress had peaked her interest, being a freelance botanist herself. The succubus chuckled lightly at the boldness of the flower nymph, something she had found uncommon, yet amiable.

"I appreciate your enthusiasm. But I must tend to representation as the junior chief of the Royal Hospital Co-..." her uncooperative tummy would bellow loudly, like the horns of war.

"... I shall fetch my plate now. Please pardon my rudeness."

Zooming across the room and back like a hurricane, Sasha grabbed a plate full of potatoes, laden with all the wonders of the Royal Kitchen's herbs and spices. Having done so, the succubus would quickly chew down her food, and took it upon herself to get squared away by a glass of champagne.

"Junior Chief Sasha, Royal Hospital Corps. Pleased to meet your acquaintance, o' fair flower maiden." said Sasha with an affectionate smile, as she extended her gloved hands for a handshake.

Leslie grinned, nodding her head in agreement at Prince Greyson’s suggestions. The crown prince had earned bonus points with her for noticing that Snow was hungry. Not many in Eternia did. Or cared enough to cater to a baby dragon’s whims. Perhaps there was hope for Eternia after all. Hope for change in the way dragons were viewed. It raised Leslie’s spirits.

Petting Snow’s wing, Leslie surveyed the sexy dancer the prince invited to join them. She was too pretty to be a normal human. Though, which race, Leslie couldn’t quite pinpoint as of yet. Eternia was home to many species after all.

“Nice ta meet’cha, Vita~”

Rhymes. Gotta love ‘em.

While the prince’s interest in an older, more mature, woman didn’t bode well for her prospect of winning, Leslie found that she didn’t mind the additional company. It made her less nervous. Besides, Leslie thought Vita to be interesting as well. There was a certain...flare...about her. “I’ll go get us some snacks. I hope no one minds spicy.”

Leslie didn’t wait to hear the responses and glided her way to where the food was. Her eyes brightened as she eyed the vast assortment of edibles. Her family wasn’t poor or anything, but even then, the castle had food she’d never seen before. Maybe she could take some home and share with her parents. The dragons too, of course. Carnivorous as they were, meat was the only things they could eat. Fortunately, the castle seemed abundant with meat. Grabbing a large platter, Leslie piled a variety of foods on it (mostly the spiciest looking ones). She didn't know what Vita or Prince Greyson liked, but that didn't stop her from experimenting or grabbing whatever caught her eye.

Snow nipped her ear again.

“Yes, yes, I know,” Sighing, Leslies fed Snow one of the drumsticks. “You’re gonna get fat, you know. I don’t want to ride a fat partner.”

Snow licked her fingers. Leslie giggled.

Looking up, she finally noticed two other contestants. Both very beautiful. One with snow-white hair—the same color as Snow’s scales. The other like a lovely flower. Peeking at the two ladies, Leslie murmured to the companion nestled on her shoulder. “This is bad, Snow. Competition’s going to be tough. I can tell.”

A passing servant, carrying a tray of alcoholic beverages, drew her attention and reminded her of the drunk contestant that was unceremoniously dumped into the ballroom by the guards. Like Vita, the black haired woman clearly skipped out on the horrendous fitting room experience. Leslie shuddered at the memory of the matron that tightened her corset. There had definitely been a sadistic gleam in the hag’s eyes.

Leslie took a wineglass from the servant. She didn’t really drink, but her parents did. All adults did. It was a step into womanhood. She was a step behind all the other contestants if she didn't do the same. Leslie sniffed the glass curiously. It didn’t smell too bad. Cautiously, Leslie took a sip.

1527918026349.pngPaula looked around. The white landscape made her feel great... but it only took her a few seconds to realise she was dreaming. From the fact she coumdn't hear her heart beat, or feel the cold on her skin. She was looking at her young self walking in the cave systems of a mountain, escorting... someone. Their whole body was blurred and gray...her mind didn't even bother to fill in what they looked like. She knew what she was dreaming of, now..she'd stop it or wake up if she could, but she was stuck there, watching her body proceed against her will.

Paula and her client soon arrived infront of a steep drop down. While she was ready to turn around, the mysterious figure put a hand on her shoulder, begging for her to show them what was down there. She knew full well it was a mistake, now... but the dream went on, and her young self used their crystal to make small steps to help go down the hole. After a quick walk, the innocent Paula's jaw dropped. The room they ended up in was.. marvelous. A big dome, with a frozen lake for a floor. It was so polished that they could see themselves in it. Absolutely stunned by it's beauty, she hovered a few inches above the ground to go in it's center. The words that the client spoke were muffled... probably because she never truly heard them. The young fairy nodded anyways... before her hypnotised focus on the floor just under her feet was broken, by the sound of ice cracking.

And then, a scream.

1527937911149.png
The very real, and adult, Paula's eyes flung open. She fortunately didn't shout or make sudden movements, thanks to her training to prevent any avalanches in the mountains. She felt warm. Way too warm. Her entire body was sweating.. the last few days outside of the frozen lands, she either lived in a feverish daze, or using her newly upgraded magic to cool the air. She let out a releived sigh as the sweat drops on her head slowly froze- Looking like many icy gems on her face, before she hastily wiped them away. She looked around, to realise she was leaning against a wall..

Far away from the other princesses. Right! She was here to become, or try to become, the new princess.. Help her husband in his time of need... but that was only if she'd be chosen, anyways. She tilted her head thoughtfully. Would she be able to simply concede if they weren't to her taste? Would they be able to move back to the frozen lands to rule....? She staid a few minutes like this, before shaking her head. Now was not the time to think of crazy theories. She took another look around, only to realise that one of the poor girls had been dumped to the ground.. she looked like she needed some help. Maybe the prince would see her act of kindness and enjoy it.. but it wasn't what the fairy had the most in mind right now. She gracefully fluttered over to her and the servant that had started to talk with her.

Her brain already started to work, just like she was observing one of her clients. This one seemed particularly rebellious, although that might simply be from the amount of alcohol in their blood. She looked back at the servant. "Could you please get me a glass of water? I'll take care of her." before turning back down at the drunk. "Hello, my name's Paula. Don't worry about your alcohol, I'll get you some once you're able to walk properly." She smiled and offered her hand to help her stand up. The best she could do right now is go her way to prevent a fight- And delay her booze intake so she doesn't get even drunker.

As she awaits the reply of the flowering lady in lavender, Sasha took note of the young visage, whose approach in red and simplicity grabbed the succubus by surprise. She was, perhaps, one of the most youngest among the crowd. The lady in white took a quick glance and back with her sharp crimson eyes, before extending her own introduction towards the seemingly innocent soul and her dragonian companion. It was a rare sight, especially with the strict policies of the Royal Guards, that a dragon would be able to accompany a guest. As she exhale her perfumed breath, Sasha could see the glowing Eternia crystal of which had found its emerald refuge with the young girl.

Dazzled by her status as a candidate at such a young age was no less intriguing, yet concerning for the succubus, especially when prior was perceived to have taken a sip from her own champagne coupe. Even so, the nurse was in position to reprimand the youngster, despite her conflicted ethics. Like her flower nymph companion, perhaps it was best to dwell in the liberty of the grand ball, lest Sasha's personal words be spiteful and devastate the pleasures of others. Raising her voice, the nurse had all but her soft words to offer.

"Evening, young lady. Did you find the champagnes to be fit of your taste?" Sasha asked, as she set aside her own flute, of which were emptied of its content.

Despite the sophisticated efforts gave to the aging of the grand ball's refreshments, the succubus was far from influenced by its strong aroma and sensational flavors. Among the finest of the arrays of alcoholic spirits, Sasha's soaked lips yet remained pink, while her red cheeks had retained its glow from the evening breeze. The lady in white found in herself some pride, being able to hold her liquors, yet a bit saddened, as she no longer felt what its like to enjoy the initial bitterness offers like she did in her teenage years. Seeing her younger self in the girl, the succubus muttered softly under her breath, as she held hands together, feeling the emanating glow of her own Eternia bracelet.

"Wouldn't it be nice to be young again?"

"Nice to meet you, you look very beautiful." He gave a bright smile and then nodded at the younger girl as she went to go get food, although she never let him answer on what he wanted. He just shrugged and focused his attention back to the dancer girl next to him. "Umm...I was gonna help that girl but it seems she has already been taken care of." He chuckled referring to the drunken participant. He then held Vita's hand and lead her to dance with him. He actually wasn't a bad dancer, he was very good and lead every step to make Vita more comfortable. "Heh so I assume you were in the middle of work before all this...hmm or maybe a play of some sort?" He said as they danced just wanting to make a bit of small talk.

She looked at the servant annoyed. "Look your trying to sober me up. I don't want that. If I am going to have to be here at least let me be drunk that's the only thing keeping me in this palace. Also keeping me from robbing you guys blind." She said that last sentence quietly to herself. Of course she wouldn't actually rob this place unless someone was paying her to do it. Though she'd be lying if she said she wasn't tempted. There was some expensive stuff here that she could sell for a nice chunk of money. She shook her head trying to get rid of the thought. The last thing she needed to be doing was stealing especially at this place. While Tori was spacing out the servant noticed one of the candidates who happen to a be a fairy flutter over to them asking for to get some water and that she would take care of it. The servant nodded and bowed. "Right away miss." She then hurried off. Tori only now noticed the presence of the girl when she spoke out towards her.

"Hello, my name's Paula. Don't worry about your alcohol, I'll get you some once you're able to walk properly."

Paula smiled offering her a hand but Tori's mind was on the fact she staring at a damn fairy and it clicked in her head she a candidate when she saw the crystal. "Holy shit your freaking fairy!" Tori had never seen a fairy in person before. Pretty cool really. "I mean you are a fairy right? I'm not that drunk that I'm seeing fairies am I?" She finally noticed the girl was holding out her hand. "Why do people think I can't stand I'm only drunk." She took the hand anyway mostly because she wanted to confirm if she was hallucinating or not. When she took the girl's hand she stood up and nodded to herself. Yep she was a fairy these people had to compete with fairies.....yeah no way in hell. Luckily for Tori though she wasn't actually trying to compete so she didn't have to give damn about the competition. "Hey if you really want to do a girl a favor why don't you help sneak out of here?" The servant came back with glass of water and Tori ignored it. Damnit she refused to get sober! She liked being drunk. In reality that probably wasn't good thing that she liked it so much. Her eyes spotted a young girl who she noticed was taking a sip of some alcoholic beverage. She stumbled over to the girl put her arm around her shoulder and took the glass from her. "Hold it girly your way to young to be drinking this. Trust me wait till your 18 your less likely to become a drunk. Not that I am one I don't get drunk all the time but when I do get drunk and people actually let me drink!" She yelled out that last part out so Paula and the servant could here. "I black out....well...sometimes anyway basically I get pretty wasted." She drank the drink in one gulp. "Not strong enough." She said mostly to herself. She then finally noticed the girl had a dragon on her shoulder. Tori didn't react I mean she had just saw a freaking fairy so of course she would see a freaking dragon why the hell not! She let go of the girl, handed her the now empty glass and walked back over to the fairy. "By the way the names Tori." The servant held up the glass to Tori's face slightly irritated. The servant girl refused to have end up cleaning up puke just because this girl got to drunk. Tori took the water even though she really didn't want it and chugged it down and gave it back to the servant. "Happy?" Tori said. There servant girl smiled. "Make sure you eat Miss." The servant girl then disappeared and she looked back over to Paula. "Damn....haha you got a twin nice."

The fairy blinked rapidly as she saw the drunk freak out at her. Uhhh.. .people knew fairy were a thing, right? Even if they were a rare sight- Oh, right. She wasn't in her right mind. "Yes, I'm actually a fairy", she said softly. Then raising an eyebrow as the drunkard took her hand to help herself stand, only to then say she doesn't need help standing. Weird. They then proposed to help them sneak out of the room... why, exactly? Where they.. forced to attend? She had no idea that was a thing. If that was what she wished for.. looking at her, she didn't look like she'd be of much use to the prince anyways. Before she could react, the girl stumbled to a teenager... she would walk over there, but some convenient servant blocked her path, preventing them with interacting with the two. Blinking at the servant went out the way, and the intoxicated women came back. Huh. So the drunk's name was Tori. She relaxed slightly as they had a glass of water... that'd help things out, slightly. From what she had seen.. Tori was an absolute mess. And.. it must've been a recent addiction, too, if she wasn't used to the "seeing double" part of being intoxicated. She had no chance at winning whatsoever. And Didn't even want to be there. The least she could do was help her get away. "About that sneaking away thing...I can help, if you need me too. But can't you just walk out the door?" She asked.

Following the brunette's line of sight, the jade-eyed woman suddenly found herself staring directly at the cat-eared prince as he spoke and danced with another participant wearing a belt of dangling hoops around her waist. Her gaze flitted back towards the younger woman, and she saw the conflicting emotions that bled had onto her face, a mixture of longing and uncertainty.

"Hmmm..." She hummed ever so softly, closing her eyes as she thought.

The pinkette was absolutely certain that her chances of winning over the prince were nonexistent. If it had been possible, she would have hidden her eternity crystal from the prying eyes of the rest of the world the day she saw it glow a brilliant green hue, the day that she realized that out of all the women across the land, she, a mere train conductor with a penchant for unassertiveness and indolence, had been chosen as a potential spouse for the royal. She knew, however, that such efforts would be in vain. Thus, she could only bide her time and wait patiently for her inevitable rejection. Why pick her when there were many others for him to choose from?

Young Lady.

Leslie couldn't tell if she was being looked down at by the pretty snow-haired lady or not. The tone was too polite. A simple inquiry if one were to take in the words alone.

"It's...not bad. A little bitter, but nothing I can't handle."

Leslie didn't catch Sasha's murmured words but her partner did, the little dragon tilting it's head curiously in response. She was about take another experimental sip when the flute was abruptly snatched from her fingers. Leslie blinked, stunned for a moment, before swiftly turning to glare at the drunk contestant that took her beverage. "Hey! That's mine!"

Cheeks reddened to match her hair at Tori's words, but Leslie stood her ground. Fifteen was not too young. It wasn't uncommon to see boys her age sneaking drinks. Some parents even allowed it on special occasions. Her dad did. Of course, mom would snatch it away just like Tori did...but still.

Tori wasn't her mother.

"I'm not Girly. I'm Leslie." She scowled as she watched Tori empty her glass. "And if I'm old enough to potentially marry the prince, then I'm old enough to drink. You're the last person I want to hear lecturing me about getting drunk anyway, Drunkard."

She knew the side-effects of becoming inebriated. She was the one who carried her dad back to his bed whenever he went overboard with the drinks, after all. Leslie was confident she could control herself before that happened. Probably. Flipping her red hair behind her, Leslie simply took another wineglass while Tori chugged down the water offered to her by one of the servants. Tori couldn't stop her from doing what she wanted to do.

Leslie's eyes landed on Prince Greyson who had pulled Vita onto the dance floor and was now leading the dancer through some sort of waltz. Looks like they started without her. She frowned. The moment felt too...personal...to intrude with snacks. She'd have to wait until after they were done. Keeping her gaze on the couple, Leslie brought the wineglass to her lips. At the same moment, Snow sneezed, causing a jet of flame to shoot forth, lighting the alcoholic drink on fire. Her eyes widened. "W-woah!"

Instinctively, Leslie dropped the flute--which shattered--and stamped out the flames. She wasn't afraid of fire or anything. She worked with dragons, after all. However, the drink catching flames caught her off guard. She didn't know it was possible to light liquid on fire.

"Be careful there, Snow!"

He whisked her to the dance floor. She felt a bit sorry for the other girl, it seemed a bit rude to move on with out her and her small dragon. Though the Prince continued and lead her through this rather stiff dance. she guessed it was the Waltz from its pacing. already her hips gave into adding extra movement through each step he lead her, making the hoops on her belt create a soft "Tlink Tlink Tlink" sound. "I'm a dancer, I perform on the street and if I'm lucky, I get hired for gatherings and parties. Tonight I was in the middle of a dance when the guards were called and brought me here," she answered him. Remembering that the coins she made so far as well were all stolen by now. Guess it wasn't to much of a loss. When he chooses on of the more proper ladies she'll be rich enough to hire her own dancers, make a dancing school even. If she made it that far before... The thought was thrown o the back of her mind. "And you? Was Prince Greyson of Eternia really caught so off guard about his own Selection that he could not don a suit?" She smirked a little.

Twila
Twila popped another candy into her mouth as Sasha extended her hand with a friendly introduction. She was about to return the pleasure when they both seemed to become distracted by the underage competitor. The drink didn’t really bother her as much as the amount of meat the girl had plated. It made her own stomach unhungry. Still she supposed Sasha was right in slightly reprimanding the youngster.

It had seemed like things would remain calm in their conversations and she would regain the chance to introduce herself, until the obviously inebriated woman made her way towards the trio. She watched along with Sasha as the drunken lady made a scene with the young girl, trailed by the fairy candidate. Twila didn’t quite understand what the appeal of alcohol was to these girls. It had no real effect on her and she supposed the only thing that got her close enough to the same feeling was having tea infused with the opium poppies she grew in the back of her shop. She missed it there.

Her attention snapped back to the situation at hand when the girls new drink lit on fire and was promptly smashed and stomped out. For a moment, it seemed like the girl had been distracted by the prince dancing with another lady. Jealously already seeping into the young girl made Twila resent the selection a bit. A small sigh escaped Twila as she drew closer to Sasha. Standing by the white haired maidens side she finally seized the few moments they had to introduce herself. “Twila Pippetwhistle of the southern valley flower nymphs. I’m the head florist at my family’s shop in Babblebrook,” she smiled at Sasha and nodded, hoping it would make up for the handshake she’d missed.

Her attention turned back to youngest, “It’s very nice to meet you too miss and your little one.” She reached down and squeezed the young lady’s hand gently.Dragons were an interesting sort, but of course their handlers were just as interesting. She’d only met one or two in the past, they were certainly a rambunctious breed and the dragons were fairly deviant as well.

Twilas gaze shifted to the dancing pair and quickly returned to the ladies standing next to her, “You know...no one really said we had to wait around for him to be able to dance.” A small grin creeped onto her face as she set her now empty bowl down and walked towards the dance floor.

As she approached a guard who wasn’t really doing his job to begin with, she turned and winked at the others before she spoke to him. “Excuse me, I would very much like to dance, would you mind?” She extended her hand kindly to take his. He seemed confused by the gesture and even hesitant, but conceded and took her out to dance anyway.
